The Rangers signed right-hander Jerad Eickhoff to a minor league contract and assigned him to their alternate training site, the team announced. Eickhoff is now back in the Rangers organization over nine years after Texas initially selected him in the 15th round of the 2011 draft.
Texas dealt Eickhoff to the Phillies as part of the deadline day trade that brought Cole Hamels to Arlington in July 2015, and Eickhoff went on to pitch 440 innings of 4.15 ERA ball with the Phillies from 2015-19. Injuries have plagued Eickhoff over the last three seasons, however, and Philadelphia cut him loose after he posted a 5.71 ERA over 58 1/3 frames in 2019.
After signing a minors contract with the Padres over the winter, Eickhoff was briefly selected to their MLB roster this season but didn’t pitch in any games before being optioned back down to San Diego’s alternate training site. Eickhoff became a free agent earlier this week, and he’ll now potentially be in line to finally suit up in a Rangers uniform should the call come from the big league club. While adding rotation depth is a normal move at any time, Texas could be in particular need for a new starter should either Lance Lynn or Mike Minor (or both) be moved before tomorrow’s trade deadline.

I guess our rotation is now:
Gibson
Allard
Lyles
Cody
Benjamin/Eickhoff
without Lynn and Minor. (Assuming we don’t get an MLB ready starter in any trade)
We also have Hearn plus Burke and Palumbo when they come back from injury, though I think Hearn and Palumbo are bound to be in the pen.

I am hoping the Rotation will be
Gibson
Allard
Benjamin
Eickoff
Cody
then move Lyles to the pen. see if he can do better there

Same here, but I wonder if the FO will be hesitant.

Might as well try. They’re in for a huge rebuild

This makes me curious what the return would’ve been, if in 2018 Adrian Beltre was traded to Atlanta before his retirement (as was rumored). Would any of those have panned out? I guess it was all for the best since AB never signed back after 2018, and got to leave as a Ranger.

Rangers deadline deals
Odor to the A’s for Khris Davis
Minor to the Tigers for Daz Cameron
Lynn Montero and Yerry Rodriguz to the Padres for Abrams Morejon and Weathers
Andrus and Joely Rodriguz to the Cardnals for Matt Carpenter and Seth Elledge
Dalton1017
also Choo somewhere for Cash
Dalton1017
and Todd Frazier to the Bluejays Wilmer Font and a minor league reliever

I’d trade Gallo to the White Sox for Madrigal and Dunning, and then send Lynn to the… well… the exact same Lynn trade you proposed. Right Field would be a gaping hole, but maybe we keep Choo around and then just plug it with random free agents. Lineup Tuesday is:
Choo
Madrigal
Solak
Trevino
Frazier (assuming he’s not traded)
IKF
Guzman
Tejeda
Taveras
Not sexy, and I still like the idea of keeping Gallo, because that hole in the middle of the lineup is huge. But our rotation would then be:
Gibson
Morejon
Dunning
Allard
Cody
(I don’t know much about Weathers or Abrams as far as starting is concerned)
BTW, our bullpen would still look good because apparently we do that right.
Dalton1017
Abrams is a very good SS prospect from the Padres. Rangers FO is said to be looking at him as the headliner
Dalton1017
Rangers end up with #1 pick in 2021 with really good potential all over the team also has plenty of money for a guy like Bauers in FA
Ricky Adams
I know hes being shopped but it doesnt make alot of sense trading gallo. He looked like he turned corner last year, and just yesterday they were talking needing more power. If u need more power, why would u trade ur lone power threat. And, if they trade him now, itll be just another example of rangers failing to develop another “cant miss prospect”… odor, mazara, brinson, chris davis, john danks, thomas, diamond, volquez, alfaro, profar,
