For the second consecutive day, the Phillies haven’t had any players test positive for COVID-19, MLB Network’s Jon Heyman reports (Twitter link). While this is obviously a good sign, it doesn’t necessarily mean a clean bill of health for all on-field personnel, of course, as the Phillies’ current schedule pause was due in part to positive test results from a coach and clubhouse staffer earlier this week.
Still, the Phillies will take part in a team workout today, NBC Sports’ Jim Salisbury reports (via Twitter) as they hope to resume action soon. The Phils continue to be in limbo following their series with the Marlins last weekend, as the close exposure to a Marlins team in the midst of a coronavirus outbreak resulted in the Phils sitting out a week’s action, with seven games postponed.
Then again, Philadelphia’s next scheduled series is against Miami from August 4-6, and it is quite possible those games could be postponed due to the Marlins’ situation. If the Marlins are unavailable, one option could be for the Phillies and Yankees to try and squeeze in their three games missed last week into a single game and double-header on August 3rd and 4th, as New York has a pair of off-days in their schedule — the Yankees are available since they moved up games against the Orioles to fill the gap left behind by the postponed Phillies games.

hope this persists and we’re back on Tuesday

That’s good news. It’s funny how this good news has less than 20 posts, but other negative threads about the virus have over a hundred.

Just saw Craig Mish on Twitter post that multiple Cardinals players tested positive today

MLB scheduling was already a tough gig; may sweet baby Jesus help them out with this clustermuck.

Not sure about the Phillies, but the Marlins are now scheduled to make up the series against Baltimore this week. They could theoretically make up both the lost series against the Phillies and Nationals with doubleheaders when those teams are scheduled to come to Miami later in the year.
Although that would mean 7 games in a 4 day span against Philadelphia….
jaysfansince1977
Curious about what happens with the Jays schedual, sitting on the sidelines right now, and not because they have positive tests, with our home opener on the 11th in Buffalo against the Marlins do we lose two more games or will the Phillies replace the Marlins as we have two schedled days off on the 10th and 13th
wild bill tetley
The Jays should have played Washington again. Both are sitting twiddling their thumbs. That would have helped scheduling.
Perksy
Agreed, they def should have played. Ridiculous. Canceling because of one or two positive tests. It didn’t stop them during summer camp. The ripple effect it has on so many teams just counties to build.
terrymesmer
That makes some sense. The Jays have no more games scheduled against Washington, but six against the Phillies. Just move two TOR-PHI games onto the WSN sked. That’s a major alteration but feasible. But it’s too late now. Unless Miami is eradicated from the MLB schedule and teams use those dates to make up games.
marlins03
I think they should have played Baltimore and had the Rays play 2 against the Nationals. That would at least open up some of the schedule later and would not changed the match ups.
HalosHeavenJJ
Good for them. No they’ll just have to play a week’s worth of double headers thanks to the Marlins.

Where are all the “shut it down” trolls?
♪
I don’t think they’re trolls. If a high occurrence of infections happens to another 2-3 teams at the same time, the season WILL be shut down.
Ancient Pistol
It depends what “high” is and whether the league and players can cope. Who knows what this will be but as of now everything is moving forward.

You know what it would be great to hopefully have playoffs but if not I say play the games and let teams see what they have in their systems. If they do complete the year great if not I think people would be happy to just watch the young players for entertainment
Perksy
Can’t the Phillies and Yankees just play the Monday doubleheader. I don’t understand how they have to keep canceling because of one or two positive tests. They’ll never play if that’s the way they are going to attack it.
terrymesmer
I joked elsewhere that the team that plays the most regular season games will be awarded the World Series of Attrition.

MLB article says some of the tests for Philadelphia were false positives.
