2:57pm: The Mets have also activated Robinson Cano, who’ll step into the lineup at second base. He had been on the injured list with a left adductor strain.
2:15pm: The Mets have scratched ace righty Jacob deGrom from his scheduled start this evening, Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports on Twitter. Michael Mayer of Metsmerizedonline.com first tweeted about the possibility.
Full details of the situation have not yet been fully reported. But it seems a stiff neck is to blame for the absence, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network (Twitter link).
Thankfully, it doesn’t sound as if this is expected to be a particularly serious problem. deGrom says an examination revealed no structural concerns; he was able to throw off the mound yesterday and is hoping for a fairly quick turnaround. (Via Sherman; Twitter links).

Not even worried
davidk1979
Weird
MetsFan22
Probably the blister he had. If it’s another injury I’ll worry more
VonPurpleHayes
Yea. Probably his blister. Mets will score 10 on this bullpen tonight.
MetsFan22
I mean if he missis a lot of time it hurts the Mets but when I said I wasn’t worried I was talking about him. Phillies could beat us today tho. Lockett isn’t good
VonPurpleHayes
Phillies are one of the worst teams in the league right now, simply because of the bullpen. But anything can happen.
nymetsking
and lose 10-13
MetsFan22
Him meeting with the media actually worried me a little. Hopefully If it’s not a blister it’s opting out bc I don’t want to see him have a huge injury.
DarkSide830
probably a bad sign for the Phillies
MetsFan22
Lol why? You are facing Lockett today. You should be happy lol.
VonPurpleHayes
They play better against better pitchers. The Phillies are a baffling team.
nentwigs
It was done because deBride backed out.

Poison ivy?
TradeAcuna
Traded to the Braves!
SalaryCapMyth
Whether the Mets are terrible or not they intend to compete. The Braves were never going to land him. I’m only bothering with this because you have mentioned this idea in the past.
TradeAcuna
No worries.
Even if he was available, the Braves would rather keep their farm rankings in the top 10 than win a WS.
Orel Saxhiser
The Braves are building their team the proper way. But hey, you think Acuna is overrated so maybe baseball just isn’t your thing.
MetsFan22
The Braves don’t have the pitching to win the big one. As a Mets fan we don’t either (RN) but I’m not talking about the Mets. He is kind of right. You guys would rather keep the top 10 farm than get a elite pitcher. But I don’t think you could get Degrom.. pache and Walters aren’t going to be anything special and we would require someone that has the ability to become special. Plus more.. anyway the Mets aren’t even going to rebuild so this shouldn’t even be a conversation…
TradeAcuna
The irony is very funny.
This team just went through a pitching centered rebuild and are currently suffering from lack of pitching. They defin know what they are doing.
MetsFan22
That bc Degrom Wacha stroman and Thor are currently hurt. I thought that was common sense. I guess not….
TradeAcuna
Haha I’m talking about the Braves.
I thought that was common sense. I guess not….
MetsFan22
My bad lol. Yeah both teams need pitching rn badly tho
Orel Saxhiser
The Braves as an organization are in much better shape than the Mets.
Orel Saxhiser
How many times have you seen Pache and Waters (not Walters) play? The trade value of deGrom dropped considerably after he signed the extension. The Mets should have kickstarted a rebuild by trading him at the July 2018 deadline. They then should have traded Syndergaard and Wheeler that winter. The three of them would have fetched a boatload of young talent. Instead, they decided to “go for it by trading top prospects for Cano and Diaz, and later, for Stroman. Two disasters. Not only do they still not have the horses to contend, but their organizational depth stinks. Meanwhile, Wheeler left via free agency, Syndergaard is hurt and will soon follow him out the door. and 32-year-old deGrom wastes away on a non-contender. Three coveted arms and nothing to show for it. Nice plan.
MetsFan22
They are. But both teams have about the same amount of talent.
MetsFan22
Once Cohen comes ins that will change
MetsFan22
Yankees one game in front of orioles lol.. maybe you should reconsider calling them a juggernaut….
sfes
Talking about having 3 coveted arms and disappointing results? Gosh, that sounds awfully familiar.
Kg3636
Jesus you aren’t bright. The Mets are terrible. Just face the facts. No amount of wishful thinking is going to change that. Facts are facts. Comparing the Yankees and Mets is just ridiculous at this point. Get over it. The Mets aren’t good…again.

Kinda strange to be scratching your players during a pandemic

6 foot stick.
WARrior
I know the stresses of pitching, the physical friction and torque put on a finger’s skin is immense; I know that blisters are inevitable for most guys over the course of a season… but like, Stevie Ray Vaughn famously glued his callouses back on to his finger tips in order to keep playing guitar! He did it for the love of the game and wasn’t being paid as well as an MLB player.
You’d think trainers had some way of popping blisters and putting some non-toxic Second Skin style sprayable band aid to get through the issue. I doubt it would be harmful to the player; you’d think getting more innings in would motivate the player from a competition and career standpoint.
And to be clear, I’m a pro-player anti-owner type of guy who wants humane treatment of everybody. I’m just saying, in the case of a blister on a 21st Century athlete who is part of a billion dollar organization, why can’t we overcome a FRIGGIN BLISTER?!?
josiahdd
Because you can’t.
Orel Saxhiser
How does a “sprayable band-aid” help in a situation where the blistered finger must firmly grip a baseball? Unlike SRV, a pitcher can’t just pump up the volume to cover up his mistakes.
WARrior
The use of SRV as an example is apt and analogous; he was one of the best of all time and played at an incredibly high level of precision of talent (regardless of volume). Similarly pitchers have to perform with their fingers in high stakes situations. I dunno… I feel like Max Scherzer would glue his blistered skin back on his hand and pitch just fine.
I am totally against players playing through dangerous situations like concussions etc (hello nfl). But a surface level skin issue seems like it can be overcome.
sfes
I’d imagine MLB teams would prefer to protect their million dollar investments rather than send them out there sub optimally and also a pitcher with pain is probably less likely to succeed in a start
brucenewton
Dangle him for a haul of prospects. He’s older, sell him before he slips.
MetsFan22
Stiff neck. Not the worst thing
VonPurpleHayes
I hate the Mets, but good news. No one wants the best pitcher in the league injured.
Orel Saxhiser
DeGrom should be capitalized at the beginning of a sentence.
ExileInLA 2
If Gsellman can give them 2 IP today, and 3 on Monday, they should use him. That way, if Jake is ready Monday, he slots back in then.
bobtillman
QUICK! Mets need to call the Red Sox for a starter
EasternLeagueVeteran
Who would that be?

As Dulcinia (once portrayed by Suzy Waldrum) once sang in “Man of La Macha:”
” one pair of arms is like the other…
It’s all the same…It’s all the same! “….

Where is the team chiropractor!?!?

Eight NL teams with a .440 or better winning percentage probably make the post season, assuming we get that far. Mets need to go about 18 and 22 the rest of the way to get to that 27 win mark. (Currently 9-11). There are other teams in much worse shape than the Mets, even with losing 4/5 of their starting rotation! I don’t think ANY team could withstand that, but there they are, just under .500 at the 1/3 mark.
