The Dodgers announced that righty Walker Buehler has been placed on the 10-day injured list due to a blister on his right hand. The move is retroactive to Aug. 23. Right-hander Mitch White is being promoted to the big leagues in his place. White is already on the 40-man roster. Buehler had been slated to pitch tonight.
It’s likely to be a short-term stint on the IL for Buehler, and one that the first-place Dodgers can weather. Los Angeles currently leads the second-place Padres by four games and, at 22-9, holds the best record in Major League Baseball. Buehler has gotten out to a fairly pedestrian start to the season, working to a 4.32 ERA in 25 frames, though his overall body of work since cementing himself in the L.A. rotation is excellent. Dating back to 2018, Buehler has a 3.20 ERA with 10.3 K/9, 2.2 BB/9 and a 45.2 percent ground-ball rate.
The 25-year-old White was the Dodgers’ second-round pick in 2016 out of Santa Clara University and has been one of their more promising arms since. He ranked among the game’s 100 best farmhands prior to the 2018 season, and while he’s not as highly regarded in 2020 after some rough showings in 2018-19, he’s still generally considered to be among the club’s 30 most promising minor leaguers. White was dominant in seven Double-A starts in 2019 before (like most pitchers) getting rocked in 16 Triple-A appearances (6.50 ERA, 9.6 K/, 3.3 BB/9, 1.84 HR/9).
The Dodgers didn’t announce White as their starter, though it’s possible he could take the hill in place of Buehler. If not, he’ll be in line to make his Major League debut whenever he gets into a game for the first time.
The Dodgers didn’t announce White as their starter, so who’s going to replace him? Anyone? Anyone?
Buehler? Buehler? Buehler?
Would in be in poor taste to go ahead and slot Ckevinger while still CLE property? Ballsy, but if anyone could do it.
He was off 3 weeks, he might as well pitch on back to back days for 2 teams.
I believe that would be called tampering.
I’m surprised Gonsolin wasn’t promoted.
White is on the Taxi Squad so was already in SF with the team. Gonsolin would have to travel, and as teams are avoiding commercial flights would be very difficult to get him there in time.
@DodgerDog Tony Gonsolin is on the taxi squad and expected to start Sunday in Texas
Oh.
Oh, that’s right. In San Francisco means farther from USC. Gotta think bullpen game tonight with perhaps Victor Gonzalez being the opener.
have pitchers never heard of superglue? a little dab and you’re good to go, cmon now
Hopefully this isn’t going to be one of those on going things like a few guys in the past dealt with. This kid is one of the many bright spots of the new generation. He is fun to watch pitch.
The new generation is what keeps me enthused about the game. I’ve been enjoying watching MLB debuts these past couples of weeks. If only national broadcasters would talk more about all the exciting young talent rather than go on-and-on about what’s “wrong” with baseball. Btw, if you’re an Indians fan, I watched McKenzie’s first start. Wow!
I’m not an Indians fan (nothing against them of course) but I watched the game, and WOW! kinda describes that debut. What really got me was his composure….he looked like he’d been doing this for a decade.
The Indians have this tree in the back yard that sprouts pitchers.
bobtillman, that and the way he pounded the strike zone. In these days of juiced baseballs, so many pitchers seem afraid to throw strikes and challenge the hitters. They nibble themselves into a bad count and wind up getting hammered. It was refreshing to see a young pitcher trust his stuff, and not waste pitches, even when way ahead in the count. Solid approach.
Honestly, this doesn’t relate to this, but what happened to Riley Pint? Like, Ian Anderson was the pick right before him and he made his MLB debut yesterday, but Pint hasn’t pitched an inning of Double-A Ball. I know he has been hurt a couple of times, but for real, I thought he would be at least in Triple-A last year.
Pint has been injured a lot and has struggled when healthy. A guy like him surely could have used a minor-league season in 2020. Here are his stats. Just 156 innings in four seasons as a professional.

Thanks for your explanation.
What do you mean before getting rocked like most pitchers at AAA?
Unnecessary and inaccurate personal commentary…..leave it out please
6.50 ERA = getting rocked. Apply for the site editor position when it becomes available. lol
Wtf are you talking about?
Time to go all in trade for Bauer, Clevinger, or DeGrom. Its been over 30 years. The time is now
You picked on that? I would have picked on “…he’ll be in line to make his Major League debut whenever he gets into a game for the first time.” Ha ha.
