The Dodgers have outrighted outfielder Terrance Gore, Bill Plunkett of the Orange County Register tweets. He had recently been designated for assignment.
Gore will remain in the Dodgers’ 60-man player pool. He will remain available to the team if and when there’s another opportunity at the MLB level.
In addition to potential fill-in duty, Gore could be a late-season or postseason option. He’s a fleet-footed, highly regarded fielder who hasn’t been allowed to swing the bat much at the MLB level. Gore has appeared in each of the past seven campaigns, logging forty stolen bases and just 77 plate appearances (including two this year with L.A.).
Waiting for the news about the Phillies releasing Pivetta after tonight’s performance.
Why would they do that? He isn’t even arb eligible yet and has another option
He nearly blew a 13 run lead against the Braves in the 9th inning.
But why would they release him? There is a difference between releasing a guy and sending him down.
That’s not hard to do man. Braves have a scary lineup ant when they get hot, they get hot.
I would think Gore and guys like Gore- one or more elite skills but hitting isn’t on that list- should be lining up to have RVS and the Dodgers give him a new swing. They’ve implanted the same swing into a least a dozen guys with very good results
I mean if it would be something if they are able to make Gore even a league average hitter, His value would be so much higher than… pinch runner. Wonder if there’s a reason they have or have not. Maybe player not interested? I can’t say I know that answer but for this franchise, it would seem to be a “why not” move to me
Gore has a .060 career ISO. There is no swing on the planet that will make him a good hitter.
To his credit, he had a .362 OBP last year. With his speed, it’s essentially a 36.2% chance of an extra base hit.
Max Muncy was about to be out of baseball before he changed his swing. Justin Turner was a career utility man and is now the de facto captain of the best team in the NL
It’s the same swing I’m talking about. Not saying he may not need to hit the weight room too, but with his speed, he just needs to be ok with the bat to be a valuable player. A new swing has been the path to that for other players… again, why not try it from LA perspective?
Terrance Gore is not those guys. He flat out can’t hit and nothing will change that. Muncy and Turner both could tell their grandkids they had a decent cup of coffee mlb statline. Gore can’t.
Meh. They both did exactly what I’m implying Gore should try.
You can’t say Muncy had anything to brag to his grandkids about when he left Oakland. Gores in his career now where Muncy was then. Try something new or keep failing
It’s bs to say you know a swing change won’t help. That’s just you spewing nonsense
Commonsenselapseyou, I’m gunna assume you know nothing about swinging mechanics. But both Muncy and Turner’s swing change was a swing designed to increase launch angle. This means they tried to hit fly balls. Terrance gore has 0 power. None whatsoever. His average exit velocity is 83mph (lower than Billy Hamilton) compared to Muncy’s which is 90. That is a crazy difference, btw. Plus he is an elite sprint speed guy. Having him hit more fly balls would lead to lazy outs to the OF and get rid of the one thing he has going for him – his ability to beat out a tough ground ball.
I say we pick him up and troll everyone with Gore trade rumors…
He’s the most specific player I’ve ever seen
This guy has so much potential to be a nightmare of a player. I know it’s easier said than done, but he should look at Billy Hamilton’s career compared to Ricky Henderson. Drive himself to be more like the latter then the prior.
I understand the fear of fast guys bulking up and losing speed- in theory- but in reality, you gotta hit to be in the majors. And if you’re Terrance Gore fast, you’re not gonna become Manny Machado slow over night.
There’s more to hitting for power than bulking up. And a 30 year old drastically changing his musculature is gunna cause a lot more problems than just getting slow.
What Gore needs to work on, that has become lost in the game because people find it boring, is small ball. If he learned the art of bunting, and I’m talking about the way Mota, George Brett, and guys like that laid it down, it could change his game. Any single or walk is a potential double with this guy, you can’t teach speed.
