The Cubs selected the contract of outfielder Ian Miller prior to today’s game against the White Sox. Righty James Norwood, already on the 10-day injured list since August 2 due to elbow inflammation, was transferred to the 45-day injured list to create roster space for Miller.
Miller appeared as a pinch-runner in the 2-1 Cubs victory, marking Miller’s first MLB appearance of the season and the 13th of his career. The outfielder made his Major League debut in 2019, receiving 17 plate appearances (with a .412 OPS) over 12 games with the Twins.
Originally a 14th-round pick for the Mariners in the 2013 draft, Miller has only a .274/.340/.357 slash line over 3011 career minor league plate appearances, though is much better regarded for his speed (243 steals from 294 chances in the minors) and defense. Miller’s ability to play all three outfield positions will aid a Cubs outfield that is lacking in depth with Kris Bryant and Steven Souza Jr. both on the injured list.
The Cubs also announced the signing of infielder Patrick Wisdom to a minor league contract, and he will report to the club’s alternate training site as the 58th current member of Chicago’s 60-man player pool. Wisdom signed an MLB contract with the Mariners during the offseason but was released on August 14 before ever officially suiting up in a Seattle uniform.
Wisdom’s Major League resume remains at 41 games with the Cardinals and Rangers over the 2018-19 seasons, though he has posted some solid numbers (.252/.328/.478 with 82 homers) over 1674 career PA at the Triple-A level. Wisdom, who celebrates his 29th birthday later this week, was the 52nd overall pick of the 2012 draft.

Sorry Ian,I’m super glad you’re back in the majors and way to keep grinding but the only reason I know you is that you turned out to be a solid bench piece for me in my MLB the Show 19 Mariners franchise.

No you’re wrong, these are two quality moves. Theo’s league.

Hahn’s league now! They owned Cubs at Wrigley this past weekend. Cubs threw their 3 best starters and only Darvish came out with a win. They destroyed Lester and beat Hendriks too. For the money Theo gave to Heyward they could’ve kept Eloy Jimenez and signed Keuchel, Abreu and others. If not for little chunk Schwarber’s 2 run dinger the Cubs hitters looked horrible.

Per playoffstatus.com….
The White Sox currently have a 44% probaility of missing the playoffs, and an 8% chance of winning their division.
The Cubs have an 83% prob of making the playoffs, and a 22% chance of winning the division.
Chicago’s World Series Parade planning group is buying blue float streamers, not black ones.
Plus, the Sox fanbase is way less than half that of the Cubs. Their parade in 2005 couldnt even muster the number the Blackhawks did three different times in a handful of years. meanwhile, the Cubs celebrstion was one of the largest human gatherings in allof recorded history.
So, even if you do win, not a lot of people are going to care that much.

What do you think is the probability that there are at least two heads in three flips of a fair coin?
It is 50%. Taht means that if the Cubs and Sox are equally matched exactly, it wads 50/50 that the Sox would sweep or win two of three.
In other words, “owned” is a ridiculous claim based on a three event sample size given the native standard deviation of win percentages in MLB compard to the sd of raw coin flips.
bronyaur
What is your estimate of one of two equally matched teams winning two or three games in a three game series?
Do you feel you can draw any conclusion whatsoever from three observations in a stochastic process in which probabikites for any single event is around 50/50?
Do you feel you can rule out an underlying 50/50 singe event probability by observing three trials?

Sorry a oit the doible post – didnt think the first one woked.

Wow, lucky you that your team has so many fans, Lol! So when Lester gets rocked for 8 ER in 3.2 innings that’s not “owning” someone? Lester was “statstically” one of mlb’s best starters going into the game and he now has an ERA over 5. I guess you can’t admit or see that Keuchel, Reynaldo Lopez/ Gio Gonzalez and Cease did apparently a very good job at quieting that “amazing” lineup & that other than Darvish the White Sox pounded Cubs pitching. So congrats again for the most fans on planet Earth but that should really only matter to Ricketts & ownership.

According to bronyaur- all A’s, Twins, Padres, Rays, Reds, White Sox fans, etc. should just quit rooting for their teams cause there’s not many of you and no one will care and there won’t be many people to celebrate with you if they do win. I guess this person thinks only fans of the Yankees, Dodgers, Chubs, Astros are worthy of winning or celebrating. I get it that it’s cool or more fun if there are more people on your fandom side but that doesn’t somehow make you or your team better than others. I’ve dealt with tons of m0r0n & elitist Cubs fans my whole life.

Should’ve been called up with the Mariners. Didn’t Dipoto have an issue with Miller?

As a Cubs fan I hope we can develop Miller or Widsom into Soild Major League Players we have done it in the past let’s hope we can do it again.

Miller will likely be used as pinch runner. First time since Terrance Gore they had any speed. He can steal some late inning bases. Don’t know much about Patrick Wisdom. I like Miller though. When we get fans back at Wtigley they can flash on the big board. “Its Miller Time” then is Tyson Mlller turns into something good. Closer (just a scenario) they can do the same.
