The Angels announced today that they have designated outfielder Michael Hermosillo for assignment. Meanwhile, left-hander Jose Quijada was reinstated from the injured list and will return to the Angels’ alternate training site.
The 25-year-old has been up and down with the Halos over the past three seasons, tallying a combined 118 plate appearances with a .188/.288/.287 slash in that time. A former 28th-round pick, Hermosillo does possess a much more solid .361/.344/.478 slash in parts of three seasons at the Triple-A level, but he’s yet to see any of that carry over to the big leagues.
The Angels will have a week to trade Hermosillo, release him or place him on outright waivers. He can be optioned for the remainder of this year but will be out of minor league options in 2021, which likely hurts his chances of being picked up by another club, though.

This was random to see as I’m watching today’s Angels game…

Kid has some skills, someone will scoop him up.
Mark Ladenheim
I don’t know. I never saw much at all from him. He looked like a good AAA player.

It’s sad this kid has looked promising yet has never had a chance to prove himself.
GeoKaplan
He is a very nice kid and has speed and defensive skills, but never hit at the pro level. PCL inflates offensive production, which is why guys like Taylor Ward look so promising at the plate and then flounder in the bigs.
Frankly, I think the only reason why Ward wasn’t DFA’d instead of Hermosillo is the latter wasn’t a 1st Round pick with a large bonus invested in 2015 draft (Dipoto just keeps giving and giving…). At least Hermosillo can play any of the OF positions well.
It may be a risk taken with the assumption that no team will pick him up, since he is a glove-first player and teams would more than likely be looking for a bat-first OF.

Rendon getting shut down early Sept if the Angels can’t catch fire
Id say sell but what in the world do they have to sell ?
Cant/shouldnt sell Sp

Simmons wont net much, and you be better off keeping Goodwins arb years left than the haul you’d get
This team isnt THIS bad but boy they just need to shelf this year ASAP
Might not be the worst idea to make a Mets/Stroman bid at some more Sp with years left behind them but I wouldnt really want to deplete that farm much more than it already has been
This FO needs to get in front of the drawing board like yesterday

Stoman is a FA at the end of the year, no reason to trade for him. The Angels don’t have anything to trade. The draft pick shiuld be in the top five at worst. The first thing that Arte needs to do is gut the Front Office and start over. Hire a real Baseball man from a winning organization like Tampa Bay, the Dodgers, Cleveland or Washington, for example.

Stroman as In the Mets traded for a Sp being out of the hunt at the deadline to get that extra yr of arb-
I agree with the FO statements

Oh yeah, Eppler wasn’t from a winning franchise.
Mark Ladenheim
Yeah, but he wasn’t the GM there.

They ARE this bad. They’ll probably finish in last place and as one of the 2 or 3 worst teams in the league. And this is while having the best player in the game, a top 10 player in the game (Rendon), one of the best ss in the game and a likely future all star (Fletcher). This is easily one of the most poorly conceived teams in all of baseball. They have one good SP (Bundy), a mediocre (at best) SP in Heaney and no one else who wouldn’t be dfa’d on almost every other team in baseball. They have no closer (and haven’t had one in several years) and weak middle relief. They have a first baseman and a left fielder who would both be dfa’d were it not for money owed, no right fielder and no regular starting catcher. Adell may be able to contribute someday, but for a top prospect he looks way overmatched – cannot catch up to a major league fastball, has shown no power (not even on outs!) and strikes out 50% of the time. And, unfortunately, it’s probably going to get worse before it gets better.

Wrong, look at the comparative stats and boy have the angels had bad luck and a bad bullpen.

Stroman has opted out of the season a few weeks ago after being injured at its beginning a month ago.

4.5 hours later, still “more to come.” I wonder what more is to come!

A little pitching might help.
Angels & NL West
Is it time to give Barria and Pena a few starts? They aren’t long term solutions, but maybe they can get thru 5 innings before reaching 90+ pitches.
