Just watching this Braves-Mets game. Never been a Braves fan, but man, is Chipper a good analyst or what? Most enjoyable new analyst I’ve heard in 15 years. Schambi, Chipper and Sutcliffe are terrific. They should be the Sunday Night crew – so much better than Vasgersian and A-Fraud
DarkSide830
i can believe Chipper being a great announcer
AngelDiceClay
I rather have Jon Miller back. Your Sunday night telecastor
scarfish
Ah good ole Sunday night baseball w Jon and Joe

the MLB is not expanding the playoffs just for Trout. there are plenty of players worth watching on better teams. how many people just tune into a game for Trout save the crazy Trout fans in South Jersey?
AngelDiceClay
A few million in Socal
Javia
Believe it or not, with Trout well on his way to being one of the top 10 if not top 5 players of all time, he has millions of fans all around the country.
flmetfan
Chipper Jones has the enthusiasm of a sloth and the baseball acumen of a cricketer!
AngelDiceClay
Sounds like you’re discribing flmetfan. Oh I know it would be better if a ex Met was doing it. The best representation of the Mets would be Lenny Dykstra.
bhambrave
I really liked Dykstra when he was playing.

Man there were a lot of people whining about the extra playoff teams this year in the chat. Oh no you mean we will get to see teams other than the Dodgers and Yankees? What a tragedy that more teams will have something to play for.

Didn’t really understand the question on manipulating service time regarding the Dodgers. Lux reported late and looked terrible (and Kike had 5 RBI on Opening Day). May was sent down because he was going to not be used until next week before the Kershaw injury.; Gonsolin was late to camp as well.

re: the service time Q.
Do people really suddenly think the Dodgers are an abuser of this? What team has brought up more prospects under 24 than them? Seager, Urias, Bellinger, Buehler, May, Smith, Lux, etc., all brought up and kept on the roster because they were meaningful contributors.
Lux was left off the active roster the other day because he showed up late and made several miscues. But he was also brought up last year and made the playoff roster. There are teams that clearly care about manipulating service time to get that extra year of control, but the Dodgers aren’t one of them. When their highly touted prospects are ready, they get called up.
MikeEmbletonSmellsBad
Yeah. If the Dodgers wanted to get the extra year on Lux and May (which they were allowed to do) they wouldn’t have called them up at all in 2019. Do people really think they didn’t realize that calling them up in 2019 means they have to miss even more of the following season to have their free agency pushed back?
Anyway, it has always been the Dodgers’ M.O. to give their top prospects September callups then if they look good in Spring Training the next year they make the opening day roster.
nymetsking
The prorated games this year does make it more tempting for teams to gain that one year of control by demoting them for way fewer games than they’d normally have to, even for last year’s late season call ups. That said, teams “Send down” their younger 4th/5th starters to until their first start just for the roster flexibility the first few days & Lux’s preseason performance forced their hand. Nothing to see here.

Service time stuff is a problem in the game. But citing the dodgers there is about as laughable as it gets.
I’d like to see any team that has called up more young guys and not gone out of their way to keep a prospect down that was ready. I can’t think of one
