Some of the latest minor transactions from around baseball…
- The Pirates selected left-hander Miguel Del Pozo on Tuesday, per a team announcement. The move accompanied injured list placements for two righties – Kyle Crick (lat muscle strain) and Clay Holmes (forearm strain) – as well as a recall for RHP Geoff Hartlieb. Del Pozo, who joined the Pirates on a minor league contract last offseason, was crushed in his major league debut with the Angels in 2019, when he allowed 11 earned runs on 10 hits in 9 1/3 innings. His woes continued Tuesday when he failed to retire any of the four Brewers he faced. Del Pozo walked three, gave up a double and was charged with two earned runs. The Pirates still came out on top, however, with Hartlieb as the winning pitcher.
- The Phillies announced that infielder Arquimedes Gamboa has cleared waivers and been outrighted off their 40-man roster. The 22-year-old has been part of the organization since 2015, and he’ll remain a Phillie after no one else claimed him. Gamboa, who has topped out in Double-A ball, owns a .213/.298/.296 line in 1,621 plate appearances in the minors.

unrelated to this article but 90% of pitchers i have seen this season seem to use foreign substance. mostly under the bills of caps with their thumbs and 1 under his belt. most don’t even pretend to wipe it off on pants. what gives?
cobbalicious
Which pitchers have you seen use foreign substance. I haven’t watched that closely and want to see for myself.
Briffle2
Get your eyes checked out.
gugui
Totally agree with you so many pitchers are using such thing and some don’t even hide well let keep playing and see the ball flying
redsfan48
Honestly I don’t know why they don’t just allow certain substances. Pine tar, for example. Wouldn’t you, as a hitter, rather have the opposing pitcher have a good grip on the ball? I know I would.
wild bill tetley
Agreed. They allow hitters to wear everything for protection for an edge. Let the pitchers do the same.
Vizionaire
absolutely!

How did a guy with Gamboa’s stats even ever make the 40-man roster. I mean nothing against him personally but statistically he’s been horrible… he hit .188 last year’s and doesn’t even have any power! Who knows maybe he turns things around and becomes a ML and I look like a fool… but idk I just can’t see what the point of ever having him on the 40-man roster could have been.
crumpy24
When he was rule 5 eligible he was a somewhat decent prospect and the Phillies didn’t want anyone to take him in the rule 5 draft. Over the past 2 years his prospect status tanked, and he has become a waste of a 40 man spot especially with only 1 option remaining after this season
Captain Dunsel
After reviewing his stats, I think the Phillies outrighted Arquimedes on principle.
DarkSide830
he was supposed to be an amazing defender. i cant attest to wether or not he is/was, but quite frankly i never agreed with protecting that bat.
Captain Dunsel
His offensive performance was under water and he got displaced.
DarkSide830
thank goodnes they cut Gamboa. overrated within the organization.
mikemcsaudi
They didn’t cut him. He is just off of the 40 man roster. He needs to be cut!
DarkSide830
the 40 is half the battle

Love the picture of Nosferatu.
stollcm
I was going to post the same thing!!!!
thelegendofmike
Nosferatu, is that you?
Captain Dunsel
Your comments are biting.

Phillies fan here… Gamboa is hitting .218 after 1600 minute league at bats. Why keep him? He will never be a major leaguer. Waste of time. Phillies are plain idiots.

Who cares, the season or toast… and maybe
next season.
