Today marks the deadline for teams to submit to Major League Baseball their initial spring training player pools, which can comprise up to 60 players. Players are not eligible to participate in either a spring training or regular season game until they are included in the pool. Teams are free to change the makeup of the pools as they see fit. However, players removed from a team’s 60-man (for reasons unrelated to injury, suspension, etc.) must be exposed to other organizations via trade or waivers.
Not all players within a team’s pool are ticketed for MLB playing time, of course. Most teams will include well-regarded but still far-off prospects as a means of getting them training reps with no intention of running them onto a major league diamond this season. A comprehensive review of 2020’s unique set of rules can be found here.

Surprised the left Asa Lacy off
mgomrjsurf
Just got drafted.

I don’t think that would matter. It’s not like he’s required to spend time at the major leagues. It would, however, give him some action after a long layoff. Emerson Hancock just got drafted too. You think he’ll see ML action this season?
JDC
The Royals have so many good minor league pitchers that they can actually use on the team in the preseason (and possibly the regular season) that it would be pointless to put Lacy on

I see a couple names that I would not call good.
In not saying I think Asa Lacy definitely deserves a spot. But, just because he was just drafted doesn’t mean that much, given the lack of playing time he’s gotten. Just that allowing him on the 60 man would help in his development.
TLB2001
Dayton said Lacy is in a good routine in College Station and since the chances of him playing were fairly small that didn’t want to mess with that.
My understanding is people can be added to the 60-man later on as people come off for whatever reason, so it’s not like it totally shuts the door.
JDC
They aren’t going to put him on when he hasn’t pitched a single inning of minor league baseball yet!

Hunter Dozier is not an outfielder
ripaceventura30
How is a starting right fielder not an outfielder?
Jacobpaul81
Dozier will shift to RF with addition of Franco. Dozier spent significant time in the minors at RF and had significantly better defensive metrics while playing there.
JDC
YES HE IS!! You should pay attention more.

Not much of a royals fan are you.
