Today marks the deadline for teams to submit to Major League Baseball their initial spring training player pools, which can comprise up to 60 players. Players are not eligible to participate in either a spring training or regular season game until they are included in the pool. Teams are free to change the makeup of the pools as they see fit. However, players removed from a team’s 60-man (for reasons unrelated to injury, suspension, etc.) must be exposed to other organizations via trade or waivers.
Not all players within a team’s pool are ticketed for MLB playing time, of course. Most teams will include well-regarded but still far-off prospects as a means of getting them training reps with no intention of running them onto a major league diamond this season. A comprehensive review of 2020’s unique set of rules can be found here.

good to see Turley seemingly healthy.
wkkortas
If there’s one guy who should be in a bubble at all times, it’s Turley.

also no Marvel is surprising
mlb1225
I saw that Marvel was on their taxi squad, so he’s on hand.

Amy of those othera players play Catcher.
Somewhat gutsy

Only about 2/3 of their player pool has been filled this far. There’s still time to add more players

I just say this about their catchers, hopefully, Stallings can just stay healthy for 60 games… Yikes. I can’t believe this was what they were gonna go with for 162 games…

Couple of thoughts:
1) Were a little thin on Outfielders.
2) Is Travis Swaggerty protected still
3) I’m glad to see Nick Burdi on the roster. That guy can’t catch a break.
ars1402
Yes I believe Swaggerty is protected. I’d consider shopping Kela now and putting Burdi in the closer role. Hopefully he will catch a break! He is gas when healthy.
jim stem
That’s barely a AA roster.

If you squint really hard, that’s two major league outfielders.

Where is Oneil Cruz???!!!
He is the future for Pittsburgh!
ronnsnow
No reason to waste service time on Cruz right now. He missed a good portion of last year and needs to start working on his next position. No doubt we’ll see him in 2021, if there is baseball at all.
