Today marks the deadline for teams to submit to Major League Baseball their initial spring training player pools, which can comprise up to 60 players. Players are not eligible to participate in either a spring training or regular season game until they are included in the pool. Teams are free to change the makeup of the pools as they see fit. However, players removed from a team’s 60-man (for reasons unrelated to injury, suspension, etc.) must be exposed to other organizations via trade or waivers.
Not all players within a team’s pool are ticketed for MLB playing time, of course. Most teams will include well-regarded but still far-off prospects as a means of getting them training reps with no intention of running them onto a major league diamond this season. A comprehensive review of 2020’s unique set of rules can be found here.
The Dodgers’ initial player pool consists of the following players.

The amount of depth the Dodgers have is absolutely absurd.
mlbdodgerfan2015
The much shorter season somewhat takes away their depth advantage but they still have position flexibility advantage. Anything can happen in 60 games. I wonder if MLB will bump up number of playoff teams, and I wonder if 60 games cheapens the season. Maybe not an asterisk but close to that.

“I wonder if 60 games cheapens the season.”
Understatement of the year.

Pitching and injuries are key. I still think the Yankees have the best roster for a short season. Their pen won’t get burned out by the time the playoffs start like in recent years. And this is coming from a Sox fan.

Brusdar Graterol is a cool name.

The lineup of this team is scary. Their outfielders, Bellinger, Betts and Pollock, are elite. In addition to Taylor and Pederson. It’s going to be easy for them to win the division. However, I will support the San Francisco Giants from that division like I always do.
Afk711
Cartaya is only 18. Surprised they included him.
oldmansteve
To get reps and workout with the team. He won’t play in any games.
JustCheckingIn
All the talk about losing Mookie for nothing made me almost forget Brusdar. He’s gonna be fun to watch
Dorothy_Mantooth
Wow, what a deep roster! Too bad teams are only playing within their geographical divisions this year. I feel like the Dodgers could send their taxi squad to Baltimore or Pittsburg and win a few games for them. Even with the short 60 game season, the Dodgers really should win it all this year. They have both elite talent and elite depth. I would love to see LA sweep the Yankees, or better yet the Astros in the World Series. No asterisks required!
Strike Four
Easily the best team in baseball, on paper.
Luckily the game isn’t played on paper.
mlbdodgerfan2015
Deepest team by far. Best 40 man roster but do they have best 25 man playoff roster. Top 2 or 3 but in a playoff series anything can happen especially 5 game series.

Thanks, Dr Obvious

It’s Captain, though he did have Navy medical training.
Afk711
He didn’t have 6 years of obvious medical school to not be called Dr.

Dodgers are stacked and have incredible depth. In a normal season, they would be,
on paper, as good of a preseason bet for a WS win as any team in baseball. I just don’t think this year is going to “normal” in any way, shape or form. Thus, I think the WS winner this year is gonna be a fluke (and may well deserve an asterisk next to their name as a result). I hope I’m wrong……
Afk711
Out of all the teams that could win the WS and have an asterisk, the Dodgers are the one that would apply to the least. They are the best team in baseball on paper and have proven they are the best team in that division in the regular season. 60 games or 162 it doesn’t matter. Anyone who tries to say the Dodgers winning would be a fluke should take a lap.

Also the best team money can buy.

Tired cliche…..they have more homegrown talent than any other team. But keep trotting out the outdated criticism.
Rexwood
Homegrown talent (not a cliche?)
Outdated criticism (you have the original date logged somewhere?)

How about this one: you can pick your friends and you can pick your nose but you can’t pick your friend’s nose.

This is the best pool

I got this feeling that the season will never start especially with the virus coming back. Will be a lost season. Any word on if Dodger stadium will host the 2021 all star game?
Afk711
The virus was never gone. Sports are happening no matter what the pessimistic ones think. They have easy access to the amount of testing to make it happen.

Wild suggestion – since you’re only renting Betts for 60 games, why not trade him now for prospects or players with controllable years?
JustCheckingIn
Betts wasn’t acquired for the regular season. LAD wasn’t worried about the NL West with Betts. That’s all about October. As long as they have a shot of playoff baseball with Mookie, that’s what they traded for
La also has one of the best farms in baseball. They don’t need to worry about restocking the farm. The goal is a title

Dodgers look strong now. I dont want to hear excuses later.
