In my opinion, both sides are to blame in the money dispute. Neither side seems to care about the fans. With no fans, there is no game. Both sides need to keep quiet on twitter and just come to an agreement.

Truth. In the constant Owners vs. Players game, only the Fans lose.
Padres458
The players are only asking for whats in their contracts. What is it they are doing wrong? Why do owners get to make profits for decades then pass losses onto the players.
Vizionaire
you are only speaking to a concrete wall.

What I think was agreed to was the continuation of season with fans in full attendance. Games with limited (social distancing to lack of funds for price of admission…particularly for families) or no fans mean loss of revenue with concession stands as well as team store/merchandise sales. Even with full attendance, you would have to factor that everything will decrease in sales with current economic situation. Since the players are entitled to a cut/percentage for merchandise with their likeness (name, etc), I think the question remains access to other income that changed as a result of COVID-19. Food, drinks, team merchandise, seat tier sales changes, etc. MLB and MLBPA hire accountants that would be able to equate the revenue difference and allocate the equivalent adjusted amount left for players and their pay. Only question is access to the sales information needed for calculation.
TBH, I think the owners are correct in reducing the amount and I like that the less off players are entitled to more of their pay…much to the disdain as the MLBPA seems to side with stars/high earning players. I JUST WONDER WHETHER THE LEVEL OF DECREASE IS CORRECT. Probably less than owners would agree for negotiating purpose to settle at desired change in salary from previous agreement.
NYMETSHEA
At the end, I meant the owners offered a deal with greater reduction in salary with expectation that negotiation will eventually increase the offer.
I think that the players should make two offers:
1) create an agreement that directly correlates to financial changes. Would require a legally enforceable agreement for access to relevant information.
2) counter offer with necessary changes to gain player approval. Essentially gauge pay level and distribution between players of various salaries, Lengthy and difficult. But most likely with owners probably not allowing access to necessary information.
Both would be best served with a mid-season term that would require another signed agreement. But that would require a more likely owners agreement as mid season strike would create a greater issue than a cancelled season on them

because billionaires who can afford to pay their own way need tax breaks, free stadiums, etc…
while players should just suit up for free (cause after all, every person in here pulling for the owners would do their job for free, right?).
phantomofdb
Who is asking players to play for free? A reduced salary is still far more than most of the people commenting here will make this year

what teams are you doing for the expansion draft? can you do a Louisville and a Seattle team please?
Connor Byrne
We’re doing Portland and Las Vegas. We’ll be conducting the draft sometime next week.

Vizionaire
too many in new york.
DarkSide830
heard of the Mariners?
Arnold Ziffel
He was arguing the point the Mariners are not major league, ever hear of sarcasm?
JustCheckingIn
Tbf, Clark was hired specifically because the CBA was ending and he was thought to be a good person to fight for the players

Did the yankees get lucky not having to pay Coles first year of salary? If they are lucky not to pay him, why did they sign him? Hes in his prime. You want him on the field now.
Melchez
You have to go back to work? This isn’t your work?

Scott Rolen to the H of F?
.281 hitter with a tad over 300 homers. Let’s put everybody in. It’ll be more fair.
ImAdude
Rolen was a 70 WAR player who arguably played the best defense at the position ever. His HOF voting keeps rising every year. Was a very good hitter as well. HOF? I can think of other guys who are in that weren’t as good as him.
sandman12
“They already agreed to a pay cut. Don’t the owners seem greedy for trying to make them take even less?”
Connor, there’s a huge problem here. According to your thinking, the players were due their entire salaries regardless of whether any games were played this season or not. That’s the only way you could view proration as a “pay cut.” You make zero sense.
Phanatic 2022
On suspensions. I know German has to serve 63 games. However, if there is no season his suspension will be considered served and he can start in 2021.

I have seen fans on this site argue for so many different players as the best defensive catcher in the game. I am glad to see Mr. Byrne put in his 2¢. I agree with his choices.
ImAdude
19 catchers in the HOF, and now, 3 from one era are worthy? Mauer played as many games at 1B and DH as he did C. Molina doesn’t have the offensive numbers. Posey is closest to the HOF of the 3.
