Altuve & Bregman Dominate Astros’ Long-Term Payroll

By Jeff Todd | May 22, 2020 at 9:13pm CDT

2020 salary terms are set to be hammered out in the coming days. But what about what’s owed to players beyond that point? The near-term economic picture remains questionable at best. That’ll make teams all the more cautious with guaranteed future salaries.

Every organization has some amount of future cash committed to players, all of it done before the coronavirus pandemic swept the globe. There are several different ways to look at salaries; for instance, for purposes of calculating the luxury tax, the average annual value is the touchstone, with up-front bonuses spread over the life of the deal. For this exercise, we’ll focus on actual cash outlays that still have yet to be paid.

We’ll run through every team, with a big assist from the Cot’s Baseball Contracts database. Next up is the Astros:

Astros Total Future Cash Obligation: $254.79MM

    I don’t see why not.
Both are the faces of the franchise. The question becomes about Correa.
I believe Correa really wants to stay an Astro and they should have the flexibility to make it happen.
But the question becomes is he worth the cost.

I think Correa would rather go to the big city lights…NY, LA….but he is going to be a part of the best free agent class of SS ever, and with a long injury history…his best chance of a good contract is likely with Houston

That is something for him, his family, his agent and the Astros to decide on.
Supposedly his wife wants to stay around Houston.

The Astros are obviously attempting to look for leverage. Without a minor league it is going to be difficult because they can’t see where Jeremy Pena is at.
If Pena is capable of replacing him it would be much easier.

Correa isn’t even thirty yet. I hope his wife’s opinion isn’t already ruining his life! Don’t listen to her, leave Houston ! Distance your career from that cheating scandal so you can hope for a good legacy.

Hard when Correa has made himself the face of it.

Regarding what is best for him.
Probably to stay healthy and play a full season.
Then he can gain the leverage and won’t be left with limited choices.

Sadly, Correa’s legacy looks more like Garciaparra, lots of skill with poor health.

Astos2017 ? Corres wants away from the Huston virus. Who wouldn’t this is gonna be a sour taste for years. Huston had no one to stand up and say NO.
So not just cheaters, liars they are afraid of peer pressure. Pathetic to life with that hanging over your head. Of course denial works wonders on those requiring sleep. Which is lying.

          This is too funny.

Correa going to protect Beltran and Altuve.

Carlos Correa feels like Beltran got a raw deal.
If you think Correa somehow wants to escape this you are only lying to yourself because you are going after his friends…

More you push this issue the more Correa going to stand his ground on the issue.

Id say Hou has to step its offers up to Springer and/or Correa as much as they can –

Its going to be harder to bring outsiders in moving forward

Then again it might be better to distance themselves as much as possible from the core……whatever the route, its going to be harder, as it should be

        Every player has different circumstances.

        Just matters the situation.

Sure there are players who wouldn’t want to play for the Astros but those would be a very small amount.
Usually those players aren’t any good and like attention.
Players the Astros don’t really want around.

Yea………. I dont really see Houston carrying the moral authority you so claim.

But I will give you the thumbs up bc that was quite a riot with your last line!

There is a difference between playing the role(not roll) of the villain and actually being seen as a cheater. No great player ever wants their accomplishments to be questioned. Nobody wants to be the next Barry Bonds. Sure, he holds the all-time home run title, kinda. But he will never be in Cooperstown. When his name is brought up, what is the first thing people say? He is the home run leader? One of the greatest of all time? No. The subject will be his steroid use and his giant head. Just like the 2017 Astros. The conversation will always start with “They cheated.” No great player wants any part of that.

I think Correra goes to the Rangers. They will eventually spend big with new stadium and Elvis not getting younger
