“If this season is cancelled who is to say next year’s season wouldn’t be canceled also?” yall gotta chill at this point. no reason jumping to the conclusions so many are.
Billy Mumphreys Downfall
18-24 months. Face reality
Brandon87
18-24 months for what?
jdgoat
That’s what flattening the curve is going to do. The virus is more than likely going to be around for that long until our immunity is built up to it.
tedtheodorelogan
You can’t force people to stay home and be out of work for 18-24 months because of a virus that kills 2% of the people who get infected. The consequences to the 98% economically and mental health wise have to be factored in. It’s harsh, but you have to break a few eggs to make an omelet.
Hawktattoo
Higher than 2 percent. That was original forecast. It is exceeding that. Are you willing to be a egg?
tedtheodorelogan
My shell is pretty thick, but I am 100% willing to get back to life as it was and take my chances.
phamdownbytheriver
You aren’t alone. Let’s get back to some type of normal. Millions are hurting financially.
Afk711
Theres been encouraging news the last week. Sports should be back this year and thankfully the person in charge of our country knows that.
DarkSide830
exactly. from what I’ve heard we might be able to get by without the vaccine if we keep pushing forward. we’re on the opponent’s side of the field now, just gotta make sure we dont fumble.
Hawktattoo
And people will fumble. Look at Dak Prescott. I’m using him as a example. It only takes a few to spike that curve right back up. Soon as we open the floodgates…turn people loose. We will see a spike and all that has been done was for nothing.
RunDMC
I can’t believe there are some ppl still on the fence about Donaldson. If this year is gone, even partially, he still gets older while collecting his paycheck. That deal is even worse.
jorge78
But the less games they play, he gets less money?
Or no games, no money!!??
Afk711
Donaldson was the heart and soul of the Braves last year and he has done nothing but hit his whole career. He was a late bloomer so age shouldn’t be as much of a concern. and its not like he was that old anyway.
bhambrave
He wasn’t the heart and soul of the Braves, and late blooming doesn’t lessen the effects of age. Minnesota was counting on his production in the early years to justify the decline in later years. They are saving some money up front, but that doesn’t make up for the cost down the road.
Afk711
He is 34. You would think he was 37 based on these comments. He should easily give them 3 good productive years and its not that crazy to say he will age well. Nelson Cruz is doing just fine at his age.
RunDMC
3 productive years including the shortened/cancelled season…? That’s my point. And dude is a gamer, meaning he will go hard, which we all love, but makes him more liable for an injury.
<- Knows More Than You Do
Twins have an option the Braves don’t. Move Donaldson to DH. Nelson Cruz is a free agent after 2020. In the last 2 or 3 years Twins could shift Donaldson to DH full time and still get value out of the contract if he’s still productive offensively.
Twins could even give him days off and put him at DH in 2021 here and there in the mean time to keep him fresh and reduce his workload at 3B.
Melchez
I could see Correa getting traded. Put Toro at 3B move Bregman to short. Astros have no top draft picks the next 2 years, so get some young prospects for Correa in the mean time. They always have Myles Straw as a defensive replacement and part time player for short. A team like the Padres might over pay.
Joe Kerr
Where would the Padres put Correa with Tatis already at short?
Melchez
Hmmm… move him to second?
I was just thinking of teams that had prospects the Astros might want. And, besides… you can always make room for a guy like Correa.
DarkSide830
yeah that’s just not happening
Melchez
I know it won’t, but I think the Astros would love to get some young prospects. They are getting old, they lost a huge amount of prospects, and they don’t have any top draft picks in the next 2 years.
jorge78
Yes, room on your disabled list…..
All American Johnsonville Dogs
Padres trading for Toro and shifting Machado to 2B wouldn’t be the worst move the team could make. Correra has 2 years left on his contract. 1 if 2020 is cancelled. I assume.
Doubt the Padres trade for him for just a year and give up the necessary prospects to do so.
He may end up being traded, but it won’t be the Padres.
Dodgers could be a destination depending on Lux. If he shows he’s not ready in 2020 Dodgers could acquire Correa to play 2B with 1 year of team control and give Lux another season of development.
Allen Adams
Hey! Correa is injury free still this year!
Melchez
If it ends up being an 81 game season… teams like the White Sox, Blue Jays, A’s and Rangers, Rockies all have a shot at the playoffs. All it takes is a decent hot streak and you are basically in. If it ends up being a 50 game season… every team has a shot. Tigers, Orioles, Marlins… anyone could get in.
Javia
You saw what the Red Sox got in return for Betts. The Astros will get less for Correa. Probably a lot less. I know you are hoping for players like Lux, May, Gore or Patino. That won’t happen. Try looking at the bottom end of the top 100.
Melchez
Astros would probably focus on guys in their teens. They know they wont get top 100 prospects, but should get some very good very young prospects.
DarkSide830
it would be nice if they kept respective teams’ DH statuses the same even with the current plan. NL teams not having the extra hitter would be mostly disadvantaged by that system.
jorge78
Well they could let the pitcher be the DH since they love to see those weenies hit. My original plan seems fair. Let the AL use the DH in inter league games while the NL lets the pitcher bat! Hey, they choose to let pitchers hit,
they should choke on it…..
Melchez
If it’s a shortened season, I think they have to use the DH in both leagues.
RunDMC
The “traditionalists” that still believe in not having the DH in the NL won’t take too kindly to having to do anything – unprecedented shortened season or not. Seems like this is one of those “over my dead body” talking points (pardon the expression).
bhambrave
If the NL had the DH, then the Braves would probably have been more likely to resign Donaldson. I think the DH is coming, and it will benefit NL teams when it does. They can better compete for free agents. Plus, NL teams are currently at a disadvantage in inter-league games.
If I could change one thing in baseball, (ok, two things), it would be to expand to 32 teams and do away with inter-league play. Teams having a different SOS in inter-league play corrupts the schedule and affects who goes to the post-season.
All American Johnsonville Dogs
Might as well.
Changes such as robot umpires, rearranging divisions for geographical purposes, expanding rosters, etc have all been discussed. Baseball won’t be played as it is meant to be in 2020. Another change I’ve seen floated around is 7 innings instead of 9 innings; primary reason would be to reduce risk of injuries during a shortened season.
Adding DH to the NL would at least make some sense if you’re expanding rosters anyways.
DarkSide830
i really don’t see any impact on the CBA to be honest.
DarkSide830
Renfroe has no untapped potential. he is a dime in a dozen 30 HR .235 AVG player in the era of the juiced ball.
Melchez
I think the draft will go
Tigers – Martin
Orioles – Torkelson
Marlins – Gonzalez
Royals – Lacy
Toronto – Hancock
I think Martin takes the top spot due to his speed and his ability to play short. Gonzalez could be moved up. The guy has a .399 lifetime average in college. Hit over .400 twice. Has power but little speed. He also hits in a very hitter friendly home park, that may hurt him.
DarkSide830
Emerson Hancock is a lock for #1. what on earth are you thinking.
Melchez
Hancock was terrible this year.
californiaangels
who the Angel’s gonna flop on?
James Solomon
He said sopranos was overrated. Can’t really take his opinion on anything else
