Since being hired as Executive Vice President & General Manager of the Diamondbacks in 2016, Mike Hazen has engineered trades involving Zack Greinke, Paul Goldschmidt, J.D. Martinez, Ketel Marte, Starling Marte, and more. MLBTR’s Jeff Todd assesses Hazen’s wheeling and dealing in today’s video.

Hazen is GREAT and will be appreciated for the job he has done once the DBACKS become regular playoff contenders

If I explained how much I love all the things Mike Hazen has done, I’d have to write a book. But I just want to say that I think that Gallen is a future Cy Young winner, Kelley is going to be in the Realmuto, Contreras conversation for best catcher in the next 2 years, and Ketel Marte is going to be the team captain of the D-back for a long time. I love this team, and I love what Mike Hazen is doing.

Should’ve done whatever to keep Martinez, they only offered him 2 year 50 million

JD Martinez is a DH and (even at that time), was better suited for an AL team. Plus, his Lisfranc injury wouldn’t have allowed Arizona to play him with any regularity in the OF. The Diamondbacks had no choice but to let him go to free agency.

Hazen is a rising star. I’m not sure of his contract status, but the Dbacks need to do whatever it takes to secure his services for the long haul.
The return for Grienke was especially impressive given his age and contract. And don’t sleep on the Escobar deal. He is quietly putting up terrific numbers in the desert.

I don’t know if they disclosed the length but the dbacks extended him in August/September when Dombrowski got the boot in Boston. He got the extension to keep him here

His trades have saved the franchise from a major rebuild, where they’re building a farm system to pump out a consistently competitive squad. Just wish the season would start so we can see it!
