The Griffin Canning health situation has drawn quite a bit of attention in Angels’ camp recently. Manager Joe Maddon told reporters (including Bill Shaikin of the Los Angeles Times) this afternoon “it would be hard to imagine” a situation in which Canning doesn’t begin the season on the injured list. Canning was unable to participate in his scheduled throwing session yesterday due to persistent trouble in his elbow, Maddon adds (via Shaikin). He’ll instead undergo testing next Wednesday or Thursday to determine if the issue is related to his joint or to a ligament, tweets Fabian Ardaya of the Athletic.
Until those results come back, it’s difficult to know exactly what to make of the situation. Still, it’s worrisome for a few reasons. Health concerns have dogged Canning dating back to his time at UCLA, and he ended last season on the shelf with elbow inflammation. A few days ago, Canning was diagnosed with “chronic changes” to his UCL and “acute joint irritation” in the elbow, hardly a promising start to the spring for the 23-year-old.
Canning’s health is especially important to an Angels’ staff that’s thin in the rotation. Shohei Ohtani won’t make a return to the mound until at least mid-May, leaving Andrew Heaney, Julio Teheran and Dylan Bundy to front an uncertain starting group. Beyond that trio, Jaime Barria, José Suarez and Felix Peña are on hand to fill out the back end, but none was especially good in 2019. Canning, likewise, struggled a bit with run prevention (4.58 ERA), but posted solid strikeout (25.0%) and walk (7.8%) rates as a rookie. The club is no doubt hoping for positive news on the health front and a step forward in results from the former second-rounder.

Imagine they’d be in a better place had they completed trade with Dodgers.

Yep. Seems like the only reason they didn’t was spite and that’s no way to run a ball club.

Why eliminate a potential future trade partner out of ego? That narrative makes no sense.

Halo11Fan
Really insightful post Stewart. Oh wait, i was wrong, your post is a joke.

Yes and they hired a joke of a manager too. Watch the games you will see
prov356
Taxi – Maddon holds a W/L record of 1,225–1,045 with a Winning % of .540 as a manager. It’s sucks when fact get in the way of your agenda.
Kslaw
Not to mention a WS ring.
MrAngelFan
Maddon track record speaks for itself. He lead 2 franchises, Cubs and Rays, to their best stretches in franchise history. He took the Rays to the WS and won a WS with the Cubs. The Cubs had their best 5 season stretch with Maddon at the helm. If he can lead the Angels to their best 3 seasons in franchise history, I am good with that.
Paul Griggs
If you’ve watched Maddon much, you will see that he’s a good player’s manager but makes many dreadful in game decisions. Schwarber in LF is my favorite blunder. He is better with younger, overachieving teams like he had in Tampa. He underachieved in Chicago with the wealth of talent on that roster, and his managing almost cost them the series. Maddon is definitely a good manager but it will take him years to turn theAngels around, if he can manage it at all.
prov356
His record says otherwise Paul. But if you’re right, you can’t get a much better line up to manage than the Angels have right now.

Yes and they hired a joke of a manager too. Watch the games you will see
Imagine telling angel fans watch Maddon and you’ll see.. when hes already been in the angel organization for over 30 years and already has a 27-24 major league record with the angels..
oh …. but watch!
MrAngelFan
The Cubs won over 90 games 4 of the last 5 years with Maddon, over 95 games 3 times. They won as many as 103 games It is hard to say he under performed when he won a team that hasn’t won a WS in over 100 years. Only last year did they not win over 90 games. However you can attribute that to Lester no longer being an ace. The nearly the entire staff was on the wrong side of 30. It is going to be hard to win with that staff moving forward. You will see.
Halo11Fan
You mean giving up unknown prospects and having Pederson in limbo?
ryanw-2
You mean had the Dodgers wanted to complete the trade as much as they did when the original trades were about to be made. Both sides have to really want to make the deal. The Angels pulled out because it was clear the Dodgers were less inclined and the Angels’ time proved to be wasted. Plus, regardless, Ross Stripling is not the final piece of any team’s puzzle on paper. He’s proven effective as a swing man in limited innings as a starter. So as a full time starter, he’d be another in a long list of maybes on the Angels’ SP depth chart. That’s not to say he couldn’t do it. But as of right now, he’s still be another question mark in that rotation. The Angels need a young John Lackey, a young Jered Weaver, a young Chuck Finley. Not another Bruce Kison. They have too many of those.
Halo11Fan
Krol, so the three plus games Stripling might have meant over the dregs the Angels are currently going to send out in the 5th spot would not have meant anything?
I don’t think people are being honest.
rivera42
Oh, give me a break. Stripling would’ve been the second best starter in the Angels rotation. I’d take him over Heaney. Even if you like Heaney better, he’s the third best at worst. He would’ve helped big time. To suggest otherwise is ridiculous.
ryanw-2
They need a frontline starter.
Halo11Fan
rivera You’d take him over Heaney? Don’t go into pitcher analysis.
Stripling is in the middle of swinging strike rate, Heaney was 23th.
Heaney is 22nd in Zone Contact pct. Stripling is 99th.
Heaney has borderline elite stuff. Stripling is a nice back of the rotation starter.
Halo11Fan
Teams don’t need front-line starters. They are a good thing to have, but teams don’t need them. Plenty of teams make the playoffs without front- line starters.
The A’s didn’t have a front line starters. I don’t think they had a #2 starter, and they won 97 games last year. The Yankees didn’t have a front line starter, they won 103 games. The Brewers didn’t have a front line starter.
Going into the year, the Braves and Cardinals didn’t have a front line starter.
Brixton
The Braves n Cards didnt have one, but they ended up with one by the end. The Angels can pray for Ohtani, but they dont have the depth or quality.
KC was prob the last team to win a WS without multiple TOR pitchers
Halo11Fan
They sure did Brixton. And Heaney has borderline elite stuff, and we all know that Ohtani has elite stuff.
So the Angels can win without an ace, and they have a couple pitches on their team who have the talent to become aces.
ryanw-2
I’ve used those examples as well, and I do agree it’s not imperative. Maybe more proven durable arms is the better way to say it.
CrookedAsstros
They need starting pitching. Stripling may not be Walker Buehler but he’s still a better SP than most of the Angels’ rotation.
Halo11Fan
Crooked Astros. I don’t know if he’s better than most, but he’s better than the person he would replace.
ryanw-2
That’s based on a swing man role. Stripling has never been a full time starter, so he’s in the same boat full of maybes that the Angels have.
Psychguy
Point is as of today, Stripling would have been a low cost add and for them Stripling represents an upgrade. That said, they still need a front line starter, but don’t seem to have the resources i.e. trade assets to acquire someone, and the whiffed out on free agency. This means they have to wait until next year to lure a front liner. What we see now is likely representative of what it’s going to be this year and it’s not enough.
Koamalu
21 starts is Stripling’s best in his career.
padreforlife

AngelDiceClay
How is it having Joc in limbo?
Halo11Fan
HaloHonk, who is he going to play for when Adell comes up? Plus, has he played a spring training inning yet? He’s just started baseball activities.
That limbo problem. Seven and a half million dollars for a 4th outfielder they don’t need, doesn’t make a lot of sense to me. I have no idea why Angel fans are upset he’s not an Angel.
fred-3
Joc is not a 4th outfielder
Vizionaire
he would have been 5th in no time. unless angels trade him to outfielder needy team. the return would have been minimal. the proof? no team has wanted to trade for him.
Halo11Fan
Fred, Nice Compliment to the Angels. On the Angels he’s a fourth outfielder.
fred-3
Yeah, but his original point is false. He called Joc a 4th outfielder and he clearly is not
Halo11Fan
I believe I called him the 4th outfielder. In context, for the Angels, he’s a 4th outfielder.
For most teams, he’s not. For everyone else in the AL West, he would not be a 4th outfielder.
fred-3
How are you determining that? Joc would’ve been the Angels 2nd best outfielder last year by both WARs. Upton looks like another huge contract bust for the Angels and Joe Adell has less than 150 ABs above AA. He’s still likely not ready for a major contribution in 2020.
Halo11Fan
Fred. I’m assuming you are being disingenuous.
Is he going to play over Trout?… No. Upton?/// No. Adell?… No.
As far as AAA, how many ABs does Lux have at AAA? Who cares? How he did after the PCL (USA Team and AFL) is more important than what he did in the PCL. He’s going to be in the minor leagues for less than a month, then Pederson becomes a 4th outfielder.
fred-3
Yeah, and I’m not saying Lux is better than a established big leaguer like you are. Lux absolutely torn up AAA and struggled a bit in September in the bigs. The same will likely happen to Adell. Streamers projects Adell to hit .241/.296/.406 in the majors. I think that’s around what your expectation level should be for him, at least this season.
Simply putting it, if Joc is not a 4th outfielder for the Dodgers (he’s not) then he’s not a 4th outfielder for the Angels.
Halo11Fan
Fred,
Team’s can’t keep top prospects in the PCL. It’s not a development read. Players are more likely to take a step back than a step forward
It’s doesn’t mean Lux or Adell will hit the floor running, it just means the team’s can’t keep the player in the PCL. Adell and Lux have to come up and they have to play. Smart teams will not allow players of that ilk to sit in AAA.
Halo11Fan
I’m not saying he’s better than an established big leaguer, I’m saying he’s not going to start in place of Adell.
Fletcher had a WAR of 3.4 last year. Maybe Lux is better, maybe he’s not. But no team in their right mind would keep Lux or the bench or in AAA, and have Fletcher take his place. So, for the Dodgers, Fletcher would be a utility infielder.
Pederson would be the Angels 4th outfielder just like Fletcher would be a Dodger utility infielder.
Philliesfan4life
the angels have been cursed ever since josh hamilton signing imo
rememberthecoop
As a Cubs fan, I can day with absolute certainty there are no curses in baseball. After years of black cats and Bartmans I actually began to believe the Cubs were cursed. Then Theo came along and made me realize the only “cirse” was the curse of bad management.
fred-3
Halo11,
What most teams would do would be to keep the prospect in AAA so he can fully develop. This is the reason Lux was in the minors until September. What’s the rush to have Adell up so quick? All his projection numbers tell me he needs more time in the minors.
Halo11Fan
Fred. the fact that you say AAA instead of PCL means you don’t get it.
Most teams do let real prospects spend a year in the PCL.
fred-3
You’re thinking of pitchers in the PCL. Every Dodgers hitting prospect last decade that succeed in OKC, hit well in the majors – Seager, Joc, Bellinger, Willie Calhoun, Will Smith, Schelber, Verdugo, Beaty, Edwin Rios just to name a few. Even BA agrees with me – they think Adell needs more time in the minors
Taximan
And you won with a manager that tried his best to lose too. With that rotation and manager the Angels will not reach 500
MrAngelFan
Joc is a platoon guy. He has to be a fourth outfielder since you can’t just have 3 with a platoon guy like Joc. . No one is going to replace an everyday player like Upton with a platoon guy. He isn’t going to replace Trout. He isn’t going to start over Adell when he is called up. So yes, he is a fourth outfielder and he wouldn’t get much playing time. If he could hit lefties at all, he would be more coveted.
Koamalu
Pederson is strictly a platoon player. 4th OF.
Koamalu
For every team Pederson is a platoon OF. He can’t hit LHP. .188 BA career.
That is the definition of a 4th OF.
jbigz12
No it makes him a platoon outfielder. Not a fourth outfielder. They are completely different things. He would play one OF position against RHP.
rememberthecoop
As for the money, I believe the Dodgers were throwing in something like 10M into the deal.
Vizionaire
coop, that’s either a misinformation or a complete lie.
AngelDiceClay
I guess a lot of them (like myself) were enamored with the 30 + HR’s he hit.
I’m thinking he would of platooned with Adell until he(Adell) can prove he can hit from both sides. Also getting a decent pitcher in return too didn’t hurt.
Halo11Fan
HaloHonk,
Star players don’t come around very often. When they do, you have to play them and you have to avoid keeping them in the PCL.
The Angels hands are tied with Adell. If they keep him in the PCL, they stunt his growth. If he doesn’t play every day, they stunt his growth. The PCL hurts the Angels. It’s not the international league.
This isn’t about Pederson, it’s about Adell.
Halo11Fan
This is not good, I wish the Angels would have added another option. However, they Angels did add 300+ innings with Bundy and Teheren. Thy addressed their 3rd base and hitter behind Trout problem. They addressed their catching problem. Heaney and Ohtani will likely pitch at least 150 more innings than they did last year. Upton is back after missing the majority of the season. Simmons seems like he’ll play more and Adell will be up in no time.
For a team that did an awful lot this off-season, there is a lot of the complaining from fans who sound like six year olds that didn’t get everything they wanted on their birthday.
4thlegacy
the complainers aren’t fans, just trolls who want to copy and paste “bUt caN he PItCh?” and other useless criticism and thinks being a gm is as easy as it is on MLB the Show.
AgentF
Angels made massive moves in the right direction and Pederson wouldnt have added much. Stripling would have been nice but at what cost? The OF is set in Upton, Trout and Adell (after a few weeks). Rotation is still a concern but even there it will be improved. Locking down Rendon, it will be easier to focus on the needs of the organization moving forward (pitching). Bundy isn’t a world beater, but a healthy guy that eats innings and can give your team a chance to win. That’s really more than the angels have had for a long time… Pinning hopes on the health of Richards or Weaver’s declining fastball velo isn’t going to get you anywhere. Having reliable, serviceable arms just might.
Thurman8er
Very few people seem to understand that we don’t know all the details of the Stripling trade. Please stop complaining that the Angels didn’t make the deal. Seriously. Please.

Halo11Fan
Suarez was rushed. He’s not ready. Andriese, Peters and Barria are fodder.
Having a pitcher that could slot into the 5th spot would have been a great add. There were a few low priced options out there. I don’t know why they didn’t add that one more inexpensive piece, but I’m not going to ignore what they did add.
AngelDiceClay
HaloFan-You’re not kidding Suarez was rushed. He wouldn’t been up to the Show if our BP didn’t get wiped out.

I wonder if this would reopen trade talks regarding Boyd.
angelsfan4life
Boyd and his almost career ERA of 5, is not worth Marsh. Much less Marsh and another prospect.
MrAngelFan
They are asking for a top prospect for Boyd. Boyd gave up 39 HRs last year. His ERA+ is indicative of a league average pitcher. Boyd’s best plus is that he is durable. The Angels already signed and traded for durability in Teheran and Bundy. Arte said he wants a significant arm, Boyd is not this.
HaloShane
This organization is built out of tissue paper. And yes that includes Halo clowns boy wonder Trout… who has missed 98 games in the last 3 years.

I imagined it when the Yankees signed Cole, the Nats signed Strasburg, the Rangers trade for Kluber, the Dodgers trade for Price and signed Wood, the Phillies signed Wheeler, the White Sox signed Keuchel, and the Blue Jays signed Ryu.
Halo11Fan
8791.
Kluber for who? Marsh wasn’t enough? They wanted another prospect.
Wheeler made sense, but I would have rather had Rendon.
Ryu? Do you think he’s going to have a 92% strand rate again? Eighty million for Ryu was not a smart deal.
Keuchel is not good. Price? The Red Sox were dying to get rid of him. Strasburg wasn’t leaving.
So, out of all your names, we are down to Wood. And yes, I would have liked to sign him.
The Human Rain Delay
The only question with Ryu is health not strand rate- You get good health for 4 yrs that contracts a big win for Tor
Halo11Fan
A 92% strand rate for a pitcher that doesn’t strike out batters? I can’t say I respect your baseball knowledge. And based on a post about the Angels pitchers being terrible, even if healthy, you have removed any doubt I may have had.
The Human Rain Delay
Ryu has a career era of 2.98 in 740 inns-
Let me say that again 2.98, since you cant capitalize Numbers ill just !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Those guys get 30 mill per yr not 20-
20 was b/c, like I stated, elevated inj concerns, not a 1 yr sample size of strand rate (?)
This is the problem with stats, in the wrong hands they can be deadly!!!!! Perspective is dying in todays society as Halo shows us
I literally cant name 5 staffs worse than the Anaheim Angels….. that qualifies as terrible-
Sure in my beer league 17 miles up the road, they’d be lights out, in current MLB they are terrible-
Only good note I can take is I might actually have a good shot at a ball in the Beers Gardens this year during the Freeway series with all that Meat your pitchers will be serving up to Muncy and Belli
Halo11Fan
What’s the average strand rate? So don’t tell me about being able to understand stats. You think his only issue is his health? The previous three years (2014 to 2017) Ryu ERA was 103+. But his only question mark is health? You don’t seem to know a thing about anything.
You’re so clueless you think “Hes (Gore) actually way more touted (than Adell) league wide.” Fangraphs has Gore at 3 and Adell at 4. Baseball Prospectus has Adell 2 and Gore 4. Once again you have sown you are clueless.
What team are you a fan of, you don’t seem to know anything about the Angels or Ryu.
The Human Rain Delay
A 2.98 in 740 inns- The website actually ran the !!!!! a couple extra off the page to try and help your little brain here ! Never seen that –
A Tor arm has more value than an OF in todays day and age- If you tryed to trade for Gore with Adell you would have to be adding….
Im sure you just saw Red when I posted the 2..98/740 and didnt even get to my last paragraph which would answer yours- Ive watched over 3/4 of all Ryus career starts and hes a TOR arm with heightened inj risk – A 30 mill pitcher with a 20 mill per year deal b/c of said risks
The Human Rain Delay
Ill give you on your first post Kluber was tricky and early so tough break
Yes id rather have that money on Rendon than Wheeler (lb 4 lb)
Keuchel was over-paid but your completely wrong with Ryu –
Ryus case was all about risk tolerance , not performance – Toronto made a lot of sense but so did the Angels
Halo11Fan
You’re taking one year out of context based on an unsustainable strand rate. You’re the one that doesn’t know how to read data.
Ryu actually has six problems. Health and the unsustainable strand rate.. along with the AL East, the Rogers Centre, Vlad Jr and Bichette.
As for Adell vs Gore, you’re the one who made the ignorant comment… not me. Hes (Gore) actually way more touted (than Adell) league wide.”
Only an ignorant person would have made that comment.
The Human Rain Delay
Ive only stated his career era your the one talking 1 yr stats-
Do you not realize his career era is 2.98 yet? That wasnt 2019 ….his era was 2.32 in 2019 – You seem confused
Perhaps as an Angel fan these numbers are just so low your brains cant even comprehend them
Comparing Ryu’s free agency value using new Div, park, and def liabilities as benchmarks relative to the argument tells me all I need to know about you-
Weak, transparent, no longer worth engagement, enjoy your season
Halo11Fan
Of course I’m not worth engaging, because if you engage me, you’ll learn something, which is something that you don’t want to do.
You wrote that his 92% strand rate was not an issue. It absolutely is.
You’re the one making ignorant comments. If you were a good poster, which you are not, you would acknowledge things.
You don’t know a thing about the Angels, but yet you are on a Angel board pretending you know a lot more than you do. The only person you are fooling is yourself.
Now quoting one of the all time great baseball movies… “Will you go away, will you please go away.”
The Human Rain Delay
2..98 over 740 inns – You’ve yet to address that number, especially the 740 inns….. Instead you, yourself bring up a strand rate for a singular year which lead to a 2.32 era
Looks like your the one failing to address anything other than 1 stat from 1 year
Cut your losses my man your looking bad right now
Halo11Fan
And I keep addressing it this way… ERA + of 103 from ages 27-30. And an unsustainable 92% strand rate last year.
You are putting way too much weight into what he did last year. At the VERY LEAST, it’s a issue. No one in their right mind would dismiss it as nothing.
You think he’s going to have and ERA+ of 179 next year? If he pitches 130 innings next year with an ERA+ of 110, I would think the Jays should be happy. And that is not an 80 million dollar pitcher.
Why ERA+ of 110? Dodgers defense vs Jays defense. An unsustainable strand rate, and of course, the 103 OPS+ from ages 27-30.
AgentF
His walk rates are also elite, so there’s that. Dude’s legit… 92% isn’t maybe sustainable over a career, but to expect a huge drop would be far more speculation than based on anything indicative of such. There’s a reason hid ERA is so low and even his runners stranded rate is so high. He buckles down and pitches up in situations where he needs to. A pitcher that fills the zone is not going to attack a hitter with two outs and nobody on the same way he does when you’ve got runners on first and second and only one out.
Halo11Fan
Walk rate doesn’t help strand rate. HR rate and Strike Out rate help.
As far as “buckles down” that only helps if you can strike out batters.
That 92% is an anomaly. The bottom line is “Of course it’s a concern”
The Human Rain Delay
Only concern is your mental health at this point
filthyrich
I will certainly admit that 92% is an anomaly and a worrisome one at that.
I wonder where you get 92% from though?
Fangraphs has him at 82%?
Not even that anomalous, above league average, but sustainable for someone that keeps a run game in check, induces soft contact, and limits walks.
A pitcher that gives up a hit can generally strand the runner. Add a walk to that hit and suddenly guys start scoring. It’s crazy how the baseball gods just know.
Getting pop ups and ground ball double plays work for buckling down without striking out batters.
Why speak so definitive when there’s a lot of grey area?
Did you just start watching baseball or something?
Citing 2014-2017 only highlights that health is the big question with Ryu.
Missed all of 2015, one appearance in 2016 and closed out 2017 pretty fine.
Hard to say what he might have been battling by the end of 2014 but the valley in his stats aligns pretty closely with injury. I’d bet on him reaching the peak again before he falls back to 103+ form.
AL East?
Dodger Stadium consistently in the bottom area of park factor ratings, while Rogers Centre fluctuates. That part of the change will be felt.
Yankee stadium became a pitcher’s park? Ha. It fluctuates though. The parks in the AL East compared to the NL West hardly move the needle considering the Coors factor.
Yankees, Red Sox hit lefties well, but so did the Dbacks and Rockies.
Can’t see the division factor being that big of an issue.
This would be a key piece in the discounted rate for me. He didn’t get the big money offers because of the uncertainty of leaving a favourable pitcher’s park. But mostly health questions.
Defense?
Vlad is a definite downgrade on Turner, even with improvement. If he’s a butcher, look for Drury to start getting more and more chances for the groundball heavy pitchers. Bichette is behind Seager but to think he can’t be league average means you’d think he’s not capable of working hard at improving. If Biggio sticks at 2nd he has some solid glovework. Or wherever he ends up will be a plus. And you can’t discount for 3B and SS without mentioning the gain he will see behind the dish. Big upgrade pitching to Jansen.
Hard to call this an issue at all.
Back to health as the main question.
As is the same with every pitcher ever.
If his ERA+ ends under 125 in either of the next 4 seasons, it probably means he had some injury troubles.
But he could still dominate if he gets hurt, look at 2018.
And I’d take the lefthanded pitching prospect over the outfield prospect if they’re rated within 10 spots of each other. Any day.
Gore is a bit smaller than I’d like in a starter so I could see the case for Adell but speaking so definitive on something that’s such a coinflip is the true sign of ignorance.
Waiting to learn something. Please enlighten.

Lol and here’s what my preference for LHP over OF would get me…
Minor instead of Trout
Pomeranz instead of Harper
Hultzen instead of Springer. Although maybe it’d be Snell instead of Hultzen.
Fried or Buxton? Maybe it’d be Manaea over Judge. Or Mckinney instead of Judge.
Joys of prospecting!
Hoping the main point isn’t lost due to one little bias toward LHP.
Sincerely curious about some of the thoughts on these points, not wanting to be too combative, just get fired up when I see such a condescending, know-it-all tone.

See you in 2022 Mr Canning. Good luck with the TJ surgery you most likely going to have.
Halo11Fan
BatterUp.
No, we’ll see him in 2021.
The chances of a complete recovery after the modern surgery are estimated at 85 to 90 percent. Rehabilitation takes around 12 to 15 months for pitchers
jbigz12
12 to 15 months from whenever he decides to have it. This could play out into the summer until he finally has surgery. If necessary obviously.
Halo11Fan
jbig, you are right.

Idk what if the cubs are trying to shed salary at the deadline, they could make a push for Darvish if he is pitching well, and take on his contract.

That is a terrible rotation, even with Ohtani once a week and Canning. Has to be the worst of any “contenders”.

If the Angels rotation is healthy, there is no way anyone would say the Angels have a terrible rotation.
There are many people who come on these threads who don’t know a thing about the Angels, judging by that that statement, you are one of them.
The Human Rain Delay
If the Angels rotation is healthy its still terrible !
I said it ! Wake up my man, take off them blinders!
prov356
JD – what team do you follow? Because it’s clearly not the Angels. It’s like you have no Angels knowledge at all.
Philliesfan4life
Harold Reynolds said they should trade Adell to the padres for Mackenzie Gore
rememberthecoop
Harold is an idiot. He also doesn’t believe in advanced metrics.
Philliesfan4life
Adell could be the next great, a shame they can’t get their pitching to stay healthy.
SalaryCapMyth
I watched that programming. Reynolds didnt say they should. He more or less floated it out there and said it would be an interesting excercise.
Additionally, calling him an odiot for this is just being disenguine. Gore is at least just as touted and believed to be the next big thing as Adell.
The Human Rain Delay
Hes actually way more touted league wide- Angels fans dont see anything North of the 91 and west of the 605
MrAngelFan
Both are top prospects. Gore is the top pitching prospect and Adell is a 5 tool player with power to all fields. These swaps for top prospects never happen. Teams coaching and building him up in the minors are only going to give away talented prospects that they believe in for established stars that get them over the hump.

Imagine there’s no country; it isn’t hard to do. Nothing to kill or die for. And no religion too.

You just know Ohtani is going to shatter as well.

Do you miss exchanging Hump Nuggets with Fregosi, Rev and the other sad sacks without lives on the old MLB blog? You don’t seem too visionary…
prov356
RG, is that you? Or is it Scrubbles?
revindabiga
If only you knew anything about baseball… That would be great.
revindabiga
Scrubbels Blows Bubbles. On the serious side, I for one, and only one opinion, think the Angels have a legit chance this year… Then again I say the same thing every year, since I was like 10 and the Angels went to the playoffs for the first time and lost to the O’s… Such a sad day in my life.
prov356
The infield and line up will help the rotation a great deal.
@%!&!
Did you finally get a job? Fluff boy? Food Industry? Fred Meyer coffee barista? Please express yourself Rev. I do miss your balding head and the tie dyed t-shirts you adorn!
prov356
Hi Scrub! You still know less about baseball than anyone in the room.

Yankees trolls in bound: “they are wasting the best player on the planet!”
Yankees rotation down 3 sps, stanton and judge already injured. Lol
Philliesfan4life
I got the rays actually chasing them down to win the east if they could take advantage of their injuries.
MoRivera 1999
LA, you’re right. You’re mindless.
imindless
So insightful mo, you literally criticize everyone opinions yet provide zero constructive advice. Based on this site there are plenty of yankee stooges like yourself who gang up on other fans of other teams. Funny part is when thrown facts about your own teams and there lack of championship pedigree you resort to the “when was your last chip” Gonna start calling you mo the ape.

Someone please tell me why I hate the Dodgers and Yankees because they spend so much money, yet I cant help but like the Angels.(I’m not an Angel’s fan, but I find myself rooting for them)
Philliesfan4life
Moreno needs to pony up for pitching in the next offseason, There will be plenty. I would of tried harder for Cole , If I was Cole , I would of taken either of the LA offers. pitching in a nice pitchers park.
ocsportsgeek
Would have.
Sorry if super annoying, but it’s a personal pet peeve.
Everything else said becomes white noise.
I would HaVE.
Not would of.

Great contribution.

Thanks Geek – one of my biggest pet peeves too. It makes people sound stupid. Typos are one thing, but not knowing the English language is another.
AngelDiceClay
Not when you’re a like long Yankee Fan. He used both LA teams to get a higher offer from NYY
SalaryCapMyth
Every time an Angels thread pops up, there’s always a lot of talk about the Dodgers trade.
We know for sure from Moreno’s own words that he shut it down:
google.com/amp/s/www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/28725…
If you read his quote in the sixth paragraph you find out where all the impatience accusations have the most confirmation but I think you are doing to much with his quote if you think he is confirming the accusations.
For one thing, I don’t know why he would throw himself under the buss and just admit that if it were true. I think he was being facetious by referencing the accusation which was already out there.
We really have nothing to go on outside of that quote which is very little. But another reason why we should question it is because of the pieces involved. I mean didn’t everyone find Pederson/Strippling for Luis Rengifo wildly underwhelming? The first thing I thought when I saw it was that there had to be more going to the Dodgers.
This really should demonstrate to us that there is a lot about this failed trade that we dont know and so should resist making firm judgements.
Halo11Fan
SalaryCapMyth.
“This really should demonstrate to us that there is a lot about this failed trade that we don’t know ”
If we could get people to acknowledge that, internet land would be a much better place to play.
And I’m saying this as a person who would have loved to have Stripling.
The Human Rain Delay
Your are totally correct about the trade-
What I found odd was the Andy Pages inclusion from Lad…… Really like him if he can add 10-15 lbs (hes only 19)
His inclusion must have been to bump up the 2 unknown prospects from Anaheim to something pretty nice (Marsh is my guess) but we will never know probably
Sherby
The trade was purely salary based because of the money coming in from Betts and Price the Dodgers are known to be cheap and wanted to get some value from Pederson before he leaves in free agency the deal have also not gone through because of Pederson arb hearing.
driftcat28 2
Omg just get the TJ already. It’s clear that this is needed
AngelDiceClay
The MRI indicated there was no tear. Have TJ surgery just have it? Blasphemy

Is something wrong with Patrick Sandoval?
Halo11Fan
Sandoval is a perfectly acceptable back of the rotation starter. But I’d feel a lot better him being a #6 than a #4.,
Right now with Ohtani and Canning down, he’s a number four. I’m fine with Sandoval replacing Canning. I’m not fine with Sandoval in the starting rotation and Andriese replacing Canning.
Dorothy_Mantooth
I know Jo Adell is young (20 years old), but does anyone else agree that if he is the next big 5 tool prospect that you’d expect more than 10 HRs out of him last season, especially with a juiced ball? And if the PCL is a hitter’s paradise, how did he not go deep once in 121 ABs last year? If he truly has the talent to be a 5 tool player, he’s going to need at least one more full season in the minors (if not more) to hone his skills as he would be eaten alive by MLB pitching right now.
FattKemp
Does anyone know why if someone is reported hurt on Sunday that hey have to jerk around for 3 or 4 days doing nothing? “He got hurt Sunday (more ;likely Saturday) so we’re going to circle jerk until the middle of next week to find out how hurt he is,”? If the doctor had a funeral or something, sure, but what’s the point of waiting 5 days?
rycm131
I just imagined it. It’s possible.
