FEBRUARY 10, 7:36pm: This deal is now official.
6:36pm: Young catcher Jair Camargo represents the last piece of the puzzle going to Minnesota, per Dan Hayes of The Athletic (via Twitter).
FEBRUARY 9, 6:35pm: The Twins are sending outfielder Luke Raley to the Dodgers as the final piece of the package heading to California, per MLB Insider Jeff Passan (via Twitter). Interestingly, Raley was originally drafted by the Dodgers. He was traded to Minnesota as part of the Brian Dozier deadline deal in 2018. Raley, 25, rejoins the Dodgers organization after hitting .302/.362/.516 in 33 games at Triple-A Rochester in 2019.
5:32pm: Interestingly enough, now that the Mookie Betts to the Dodgers deal is again near completion, the rest of the baseball world can move on. That includes the Minnesota Twins, who are completing their leg of this mega-deal in a new iteration.
The Twins will now receive right-handed pitcher Kenta Maeda, along with $10MM cash from the Dodgers, per The Athletic’s Ken Rosenthal (Twitter links). They are also likely to receive a lower level prospect from the Dodgers, per Rosenthal, though the name of that prospect has not yet been revealed. Another report has the Twins sending an additional prospect to the Dodgers, per The Athletic’s Dan Hayes. That player is said to be an outfielder, per MLB Networks Jon Heyman.
If your head is spinning at this point, that’s okay. In total, Maeda, $10MM cash and a prospect is headed to the Twins for Brusdar Graterol, a draft pick (#67 overall) and another prospect. Deals are still pending physicals, which of course, is no small caveat, though expectations are that the deal will go through. We’ll keep this post updated as the names of those final prospects come rolling in.
The Dodgers will now keep Graterol, presumably making him a part of their bullpen picture in 2020. It’s certainly an interesting gambit for the Dodgers to take on Graterol after the Red Sox passed. Regardless, he becomes another weapon for the Dodgers to use in their quest to return to the World Series. He may even be the perfect candidate to take on the multi-inning fireman role that Maeda had played for the Dodgers over the past few postseasons. Alternatively, if Kenley Jansen’s struggles continue, Graterol could step into a finishing role. However they plan on using him, the Dodgers not only added one of the best player’s in the game today, but also a high-risk, high-reward young hurler.
For the Twins, they get a reliable arm for their rotation at little financial investment to slot in with Jose Berrios and Jake Odorizzi at the top of their rotation. Even Maeda wins here, as he gets the security of starting for a playoff contender, something he’s long desired, per MLB Network’s Jon Heyman. Maeda has a fairly complex contract, but given the money being sent Minnesota’s way, the Twinkies have Maeda for the next four seasons at very reasonable rates. Maeda is only really assured of earning $3.15MM in each of the next four seasons by way of a $3MM base contact and $150K bonus for making the opening day roster. Of course, with Maeda in the rotation, there’s room for him to raise his worth on an annual basis with up to $6.5MM in potential bonuses.

DarkSide830
hmm. as good as Graterol is, Maeda is money on that contract, and the extra money and prospect is gravy. Twins made out pretty well here id say.
Francys01
Interesting that the Dodgers will now keep Graterol.
DarkSide830
what i wonder about it is do the Dodgers plan on using him in another trade after having not included him in their end in the original proposal? maybe not, but it is curious to say the least.
parx
I think graterol makes great sense for the dodgers to use as their own bullpen weapon, he’s goin to be an all star in time, and the way the dodgers use starters they don’t seem to need him to be a starter immediately as Boston somehow needed
laswagn
I’m thinking they use all their saved prospects and pick up a closer at the deadline. Maybe Hader.
Buck Jones
He will help with the acid reflux.
socalblake
What would be awesome would be seeing Graterol strike out the Red Sox in the WS between those two teams. Long shot yes, I know, but it would be awesome.
neurogame
Strange that the Dodgers were okay with his medicals but the Red Sox weren’t (?). Just shows that Boston was having seller’s remorse with the initial conditions of the trade and wanted more to assuage the outcry over losing their best player. It was a bum move by them.
Flapjax55
That’s really silly logic. This is not a reaction to fans in any way shape or form.
The Red Sox put a value on Graterol—likely as a starter—then found something that made them realize he would be less valuable, a risk factor. There is a pretty long history with the Red Sox medical staff taking precautions with contracts—Mike Napoli, JD Martinez come to mind.
neurogame
They valued him as a starter though he was converted to a reliever for all of AAA? It’s poor due diligence on the part of the Red Sox scouting and front office that made the initial deal fall through. And when I mentioned “outcry” in relation to trading Betts, that doesn’t strictly mean fans. Most media outlets and pundits agreed the Red Sox didn’t get enough initially. And if you don’t believe that, then what’s a better deal for the Red Sox? The first or second offer? You won’t find one person who would take the first deal over the second. They wanted more and got it.
mcslims
Maeda has some pretty crazy incentives which is likely why he never was used as a starter down the stretch. The extra cash in the deal covers those incentives and then some.
empirejim
Maeda was lights-out from the pen, that’s why he was used like that. IMHO, Maeda would be an elite reliever if he didn’t insist on being a starter.
jbigz12
Maeda might be open to being a reliever if his contract wasn’t so dependent on him being a starter.
Hammmbone
Good reliever maybe, “elite” don’t think so. Not a fireballer and all projections have hime with an ERA and xFIP greater than 4.50. Useful out of the ‘pen for sure, “elite”, no shot!
itsgood2btheking
From the dodgers point of view…Graterol, 67th pick, & low level OF prospect seems like a steal for Maeda(+Cash) & low level prospect.
Ultimately, Maeda and his contract became very expendable with the addition of Price, Woods & Nelson this offseason and with the continued development of Urias, May & Gonsolin this past season.
Graterol has 6 yrs of control and this will only be his age 21 season.
The 67th pick has real value to a dodger team that is one of the best at drafting and developing talent.
Lightning
Rally is not a low level prospect. He was in AA and AAA (batted .302) last season and highly thought of by the Twins but they have a logjam of top prospects as outfielders so like the Dodgers trading Maeda they are dealing from a position of strength.
Buck Jones
Twins have had a decent off season but will it be enough to get by their yankee their bogeyman? I seriously doubt it.
Finlander
Unfortunately for the Twins, I think they traded away their Yankee killer in Graterol. But their rotation improved from where it was, and Donaldson’s edginess should help a lot.
ColossusOfClout
It’s got to happen sooner or later, right? Seven straight times (or is it eight now?) being bounced by the Yanks in the post season is beyond frustrating for Twin fans.
Hammmbone
Twins fans seem to think that the division is a lock. They have a talented lineup, but the pitching just isn’t that strong. Even with the addition of Maeda, the only starter worth watching is my Puerto Rican brother Jose Berrios, and even he projects to and ERA and xFIP north of 4. The bullpen is exactly the same with the exception of Rogers and Duffey. By no means is the pitching core lights out. They may win a lot of high scoring games, but when faced with good pitching, they’ll get bounced again. Honestly, in a 5 game series, Cleveland has the starters to be beat Minnesota. Clevinger, Bieber, and Carrasco would all be #1’s on the Twins.
Eatdust666
6 straight against the Yankees, have not won a postseason series since beating Oakland in 5 in 2002 ALDS, who then got revenge by sweeping Minnesota in the ALDS 4 years later. Last playoff game victory was Game 1 of the 2004 ALDS.
twins33
I don’t think it’s a lock. Cleveland’s rotation last year was better than the Twins even with their injuries.
That being said, now with Maeda, I think the Twins rotation is better than it was in 2019 which is good because the Twins were 8th in FIP and 10th in xFIP in 2019 (all of MLB).
The bullpen in 2019, MLB rankings:
3rd in k to Bb percentage
2nd highest BABIP .317 (unlucky maybe?)
7th in HR/FB 13.4 percent
1st in FIP 3.92
6th in xFIP
4th in WPA
10th in swinging strike percentage (everyone is close to first in this- Twins were 1.7 percent worse than the number one Reds)
The bullpen is underrated due to not having any well known names. they may not be as good in 2020, but the were a top 5 BP in 2019.
Cleveland will be tough. Wouldn’t surprise me if either team wins the division.
BasedBallGuru
Good thing they spent their offseason wad on outbidding absolutely everyone for the privelage of adding yet another middle-aged slugger instead of adding depth at pitching.
Comrade Tipsy McStagger
They tried on the pitching front. I think they did okay. And they will have an outfield logjam very shortly that they will have to do something about. That can help trade up for some starting pitching. No rush.
Moneyballer
Odorizzi had a breakout 2019! Pineda was solid as well.. Rich Hill and Homer Bailey are crafty vets that get the job done. They also have some young guns to help as well. I think they will be just fine. Plenty of options to lean on.
wjf010
“As good as Graterol is”
The young man has pitched 11 major league innings.
LADreamin
He throws 100 mph with sink, I think that’s good. Seems good…
Finlander
He’s a sinker/slider pitcher. 100 mph sinker, 90 mph wipe out slider and around 55% grounder rate. Gonna be filthy.
purplewidow
His projection next year as a dodger wasn’t great now as a twin in the AL Maeda doesn’t have the pitcher and has the dh to face along with a lot tougher lineups in general.. Maeda is gonna get rocked imo
paddyo furnichuh
Purple, I agree, didn’t see the reasoning in the Dodgers sending the Twins money. Maybe they really liked Raley’s upside and looked beyond just the initial medical reports on Graterol? It seems like Twins got a great deal, unless Graterol excels and Raley meets his expectations.
the.sophisticant
i lik gravy. gravy is real good. no playaer can compeet with gravy lol.
cman
Here’s the thing, Graterol IS NOT THAT GOOD yet. Sure he has a triple digit, straight as an arrow fastball, but his offspeed stuff is all a work in progress including his slider (lots of bad information out there about this pitch). Sometimes he throws a quasi fastball sinker (which might be his best pitch at this point).
Jumping back to his offspeed stuff, His slider doesn’t quite have the raw spin rate or efficiency you’d desire for an offspeed pitch. He also occasionally throws a mediocre changeup which isn’t anything special at this point.
MLB hitters have teed off on Graterol despite his blistering fastball. I can see why the Twins traded him for Maeda. Graterol is a lonnnnggg term project.
amk3510
Great deal for the Dodgers. Maeda is a spare part at this point.
thebaseballfanatic
Geez, looks like the Twins were really eager to get rid of Graterol.

What about the Angel’s deal?
thebaseballfanatic
That unnecessary apostrophe though…
juanpursuit
The apostrophe should be after the “s”. Also, are you really 13?
realgone2
At least the mentality of one, Juan.
Cubguy13
Why are you so interested in if the person is 13 years old?
fox471 Dave
Actually, since Angels is the name of the team no apostrophe is necessary.
Misterants
Maybe he was trying to say “what about the Angel is deal”
RedSox4Life4ever
It’s not unnecessary, just in the wrong spot. If you’re going to make fun of someone’s grammar, you should at least know what to correct.
thebaseballfanatic
Technically, if you put the apostrophe after the s, you get “the Angels’ deal”. The Angels aren’t the only team involved, so to give them possession of the deal in a sentence isn’t 100% correct. If we remove the apostrophe, we get “The Angels deal”, which would mean a deal involving the Angels. That seems more grammatically correct to me.
fox471 Dave
If you are 13, you should concentrate on baseball not grammar.
RedSox4Life4ever
The apostrophe after the “s” would be correct in the way rick68 had intended the comment to be. Go back to school and learn grammar like a good thirteen year old should and let the big boys discuss baseball on here.

I agree, the Twins did come out better with this version of the trade, looks like Boston may come out better too
John Kappel
No Boston can’t come out better. They just traded the second best player in baseball. They can’t win this trade.
iamhector24
They can lose this trade and still be better off than they were with the last deal. I believe that’s what he was saying.
DarkSide830
you clearly dont understand the implications of the luxury tax and what this payroll space means for Boston. they may not be better this year, but could certainly be thereafter.
Jeff 1Bworthy
Any Betts trade is 1 step backward before 2 steps forward type of move. Sacrifice 2020, can always sign Betts next season and be in better shape with verdugo/downs 2021+. In the long run, this trade can certainly be a net positive for the Red Sox.
SG
Why don’t we see if the Dodgers pay Betts the $420M he wants next year before we start assuming the Red Sox got the sh-t end of the stick. LOL
Darryl Rose
Boston aren’t signing him next year. He already rejected a huge offer from them. Why would he take the risk of being injured or sub par this year if he wanted to stay in Boston?
The sox did the right thing trading him. He was only staying for one more year and they may as well get something for him
thetruth 2
Lol at second best. Acuna, Trout, Yelich are all better.
Eh33
Always trying to prove everyone wrong! You don’t get invited to many social gatherings, do you?

Bellinger!
fox471 Dave
Yep
JoeBrady
No Boston can’t come out better.
————————————-
One year of a 6.6 player for 5 years of a 3.0 player, plus a prospect that projects to a 2+ WAR player, plus a lottery ticket catcher, plus getting under the cap.
Feel free to disagree, but I am extremely pleased with the result.
Moneyballer
I think he meant better as in compared to the original deal – which is debatable. Obviously Boston will not be a better team losing Betts and Price. Short term regress as a result.
Simodine
Dodgers really got screwed by the sox holding up this deal. Gave up higher prospects and now 10m.
saintguitar
To be fair, if the Dodgers didn’t want to make this happen they didn’t have to. No one really forced them to make the deal.
I guess they saw this year to be their winning it all kind of year not to mention Boston didn’t believe they can retain Betts.
Moneyballer
I disagree – Graterol is a better prospect than Downs. They actually upgraded there. Downs was blocked 7 ways from sunday on that team and Graterol has a role to fill as early as this season – without a doubt!
Simodine
Obviously the sox and the people who do rankings for a reason disagree with you. I’m sure your an expert so who cares what they think.
Oxford Karma
Lux is their second basemen of the future, and they have Seager. also Chris Taylor. Downs was less valuable for the needs of the Dodgers.
fox471 Dave
Yep
puigpower
Lux is ss in the future
DarrenDreifortsContract
They gave up more in the Betts trade but they got a lot more in the Maeda trade. Not to mention Maeda didn’t even want to be here anymore.
JustCheckingIn
Yes they gave up more talent. But the acquire more talent- and immediate talent, which is what all of this is about
And tbh, I think the dodgers feel they can draft and develop another Jeter Downs level prospect with that 67th pick
Finlander
Dodgers did fine. High velocity bullpen piece was needed more than yet another starter. The #67 pick was a surprising inclusion, and definitely of value. And I wouldn’t call Raley a low level OF prospect. He didn’t get the ink compared to the top OFs in the Twins system, but he put up good numbers and the Twins are pretty flush at OF. Raley should be in the mix for the Dodgers next year.
From the Twins’ standpoint, the FO has shown this off season that they would make substantial FA offers (Wheeler, Madbum, Donaldson) and also part with a prized prospect to address positions of need. These traits have been pretty rare for the organization in years past. Hopefully future FAs take note.
Boston improved their return by getting a player that could take over at 2B with the loss of Pedroia. They didn’t get their starting pitcher though, and that rotation looks thin. It will be interesting to see how they address that.
First impression: Dodgers A, Twins B+, Bosox B. No losers!
nick effing punto
Red Sox take the loss in the integrity column.
Finlander
Well, yeah. Karma will take care of that.
Darryl Rose
I hate the sox but what were they supposed to do? They offered him a kings ransom and he rejected it. They had to move on and get some value for him.
beckmt
Gaterol was looked at by the Twins FA as a bullpen piece (his third pitch was a work in progress, and no feeling whether it would ever be good enough). He could be a great reliever. Raley was about the Twins 5 – 6 best OF prospect, (Kirloff, Laurnach, Rooker, Wade, and a couple others who are lower, he had no clear path to playing time in Minnesota. One of the above will probably push Rosario out the Minnesota in the next couple of years, and with only one possible spot for any extras(1B/DH) will be tough.
Gaterol was a huge loss, but Twins needed starters now and in the near future. Hard to fill 3 rotation spots and be competitive.
Finlander
I had read a piece last summer (sorry no citation, maybe someone can help) that Graterol’s development of a third pitch was slowed or postponed during healing from TJ and the subsequent shoulder issue. His sinking heater and slider looked very good last fall though. And, importantly, he is just fine with working out of the pen. I have a feeling Boston will soon have one eye gazing at the Dodger fireballer and muttering expletives while they are filling out insurance reimbursement paperwork for Sale’s elbow.
pasha2k
More to come…….Price to LA please!!! Give the RS fans done good news once in a while!
realgone2
They just won the world series in 2018, shut up.
pasha2k
Real…….really that is not nice!
Moneyballer
They want to win now, obviously!
Rich Hill’s Elbow
So your telling me the Twins couldn’t have gotten another starter and retained Graterol??
Seriously, he’s 32 and currently a #3 starter. How good is he gonna be in two years, let alone four…
thetruth 2
Based on xFIP he’s their best starter now.
joepanikatthedisco
Yeah, and based on xFIP Len Barker was one of the best pitchers of the 80s.
Hammmbone
Based on innings pitched and longevity he isn’t there best pticher, and its not close. The Twins will be lucky to get 5 innings per game from Maeda. Plus they have two other starters (Hill and Bailey) with AARP cards. The Twins needed to get help for Berrios and Odorizzi (who had a bad 2nd half). Their off season really didn’t accomplish that.
twins33
Correction, sort of. Odorizzi had an average June (3.58 FIP, 4.01 xFIP), an absolutely awful July (6.39 FIP, xFIP 5.68) and a great August through the rest of the season (2.15 FIP, 3.54 xFIP).
I know you can’t just throw out a whole month, but it you could, you wouldn’t say it was a bad half. It was more good months than bad.
CaptainHooks
Career ERA
Berrios 4.21
Odorizzi 3.88
Maeda 3.87

What is the problem with Kenta Maeda?

Dodgers are going all in this year, good luck. Dodgers are the WS Champions for 2017. I wish they had not done his trade.

No, Operation: Codebreaker and its program of “dark arts” was the winner.
DTD_ATL
I remember the Astros winning…
Comrade Tipsy McStagger
You remember incorrectly. The dark arts have played a number on you.
saintguitar
Those involved teams better get their pieces moving real fast because no one would like to this get held up any longer, especially the players who have to report to the teams soon.
gidez1
The Dodgers front office is genius! Just when the Mookie trade looks bad, they swoop in take the fireballer the Red Sox passed on and give up Jeter Downs (who is a solid prospect) but had no place in the big league club! They replace Maeda with a young guy that throws gas and wants to come out the pin? In recap the Dodger gave up Joc, Striplin , Maeda and a prospect and got back Mookie, Price (for 1/2 his salary) A young stud to pitch out the bullpen and 3-4 other prospects and still are under the salary cap and kept Lux, Ruiz, May, Gonslin?!?! Friedman is a genius!
Cave
But he’s probably not going to win the WS.
mlbdodgerfan2015
Downs is a top 100 prospect who’s still raw but has very high upside. And Betts only one year. If I had to bet I’d say he’s not a Dodger for more than one season given what he wants. Didn’t get much for Stripling and Joc so not sure how that’s a positive. You’re not saving much payroll on Joc. And losing a very productive left handed bat. He could easily platoon with CT3 or Kike in LF. I would have packaged Pollock with a prospect if we were looking to cut payroll and free up OF playing time. Let Joc walk if he wants more money.
Dodgerblog
The Angel deal fell through
mlbdodgerfan2015
That’s a relief.
fox471 Dave
Actually, the Angels trade was canceled.
martras
I wonder who the OF prospect from the Twins will be? Trevor Larnach or Brent Rooker is my guess. That $10MM probably didn’t come cheap. I’ve never been a fan of the way the Twins are so high on selling their prospects for cash…
Matt Galvin
Alex Kirkloff.
phantomofdb
Kirilloff as the second piece of this trade would make this a MASSIVE overpay. He’s a higher rated prospect than Graterol
cman
NO WAY the Twins gave up Kirilloff. If that was the cost to get Maeda plus Graterol they would have walked away from the deal guaranteed.
puhl
No way Twins include Larnach in that deal if Maeda is the only return. Rooker possibly, but I think that is even too much.
phantomofdb
They’re already giving up a top draft pick too. It shouldn’t be another top 10 prospect. Someone more like Emmanuel Rodriguez is way more likely
wildboys
It would be funny if Graterol ends up being the best player of all the players in these two deals. Seems to me that LA’s scouting department is one of the best in the league.
puhl
He has the talent to make your take a reality………..if he can stay healthy.
imindless
So far dodgers made out better than before. This is excluding what they got from angels wow! Get a future closer and an additional outfielder and a draft pick nice!
Moneyballer
I totally agree here.
mlbdodgerfan2015
Here are the starting pitchers that have departed. Ryu, Hill, Stripling, Maeda in exchange for Price at adjusted $16mm per season, Alex Wood and Jimmy Nelson. You have May, Urias and Gonsolin and not a big fan of Stripling and Maeda but not sure if you can rely on Wood and Nelson, and youngsters no guaranteed. With two declining arms in Kershaw and Price. More risky rotation.
Moneyballer
May and Urias are both fantastic starting options. I think LA will be just fine with a rotation of Buehler, Kershaw, Price, May and Urias. That is solid as hell!
mlbdodgerfan2015
Not proven though. I’d feel more comfortable with Urías but May’s sample size is too small. Players don’t develop in a straight line. Ferguson took a huge step backwards last year. We thought Brock Stewart would be reliable. Just saying that they are still unknowns to rely so heavily on. Also I would think May is on an innings limit next season. Injuries always occur. Seems like the Dodgers May need to pony up for a top of the rotation talent in a deadline trade. They’re hoping everything shakes out before then. We’ll see it may work out but we need a youngster or two to break out.
Moneyballer
Urias is pretty proven by now, he needs opportunity! May is the wild card but upside is enormous, I honestly don’t think Dodger fans need to be worried about their starting pitching – I mean they also have the best top to bottom lineup in baseball – so there’s that!
Moneyballer
DON’T need to be worried it should say.
Dodgerblog
Stripling is staying. Price for Maeda? Price in Dodger stadium will be reviving his career. Betts and Bellinger and Muncy and Turner and Seager and Now Will Smith with a full year. And we kept Joc Pederson. I think Betts would be stupid to sign anywhere else next year
mlbdodgerfan2015
Even if offered a lot more money? I have no idea what his situation is but not all players want to play for winners. They may want to maximize $. Red Sox stay under luxury tax this year they may be more willing to go over next year. Friedman is a prudent guy. He doesn’t want 20% of his payroll tied to one player for 8-10 years. That’s usually not a recipe for success. Angels have the best player in mlb what has that done for them. I’d take depth and a better farm system.
Strike Four
OOH, now do the Angels trade next
bravesfan
Twin went from getting the raw end of the 3 team deal, to getting what’s overall a solid enough deal. And I think this is a decent deal for the dodgers also
darwin 22
Best part of this deal, as a Twins fan, is not having to see/face Graterol stick it to us by remaining with Boston as a RP or SP in the future. Maeda is NOT the “impact SP I was hoping for, but is an upgrade over the acquisitions of Bailey and Hill. I’d still like to see Falvey upgrade bullpen with a solid LH RP…….with $10m from Dodgers he has some money to work with to make a bullpen upgrade.
saintguitar
It would be really interesting how Graterol fares this year. At the end of this year, who would be laughing? The Dodgers or the Redsox? Would the “rejection” from the RedSox give Graterol more strength to prove himself? Or would it have rattled the young pitcher hard enough that he loses focus and falters?
Only time will tell
DarkSide830
i think you have to wait until the end of 2021 for that. Graterol will probably start in AAA regardless of his role given how little experience beyond AA he has and his need for innings monitoring. this will especially be true if they want to have him start immediately.
saintguitar
If Graterol pitches well during Spring training, I don’t see any reason to keep him in the minors. Didn’t he pitch in the majors last year, too?
Eatdust666
Yes, 10 games, all in relief didn’t go to well as he posted a 4.66 ERA.
Finlander
One bad outing skewed his numbers – happens with a small sample size.
Swan Gaust
Graterol has not only already pitched in the majors, he finished a playoff game with a 1-2-3 inning against the Yankees (including 2 Ks!).
Finlander
Boston forgot to watch that game.
He doesn’t get rattled. 21 going on 30.
nmendoza7
Next time, on Dragon Ball Z
Moneyballer
Dodgers are practically giving Boston the finger by keeping Graterol. Now Boston has to watch the prospect they “should” have had play for the team they would have indirectly received him from. I absolutely love it! I hope Graterol is a FORCE for los angeles!
DarkSide830
Bloom was right to balk at that original deal. Graterol may have a huge ceiling, but Downs and Wong are much safer bets to succede.
Moneyballer
Graterol will prove him wrong!
The Human Rain Delay
Its also great that if Downs does become a regular they have to root for a Jetah now day in day out –
If Graterol can become 80+% of what Dellin Betances is healthy he will be a lot more valuable than Jeter Downs to any club
Megatron2005
Twins have made some nice last minute moves.

Red Sox are not done now— next move is sending Bradley to Padres for either a SP straight up or Taking Myers contract and two pithcing prospects, like Baez and Quantril.
If it is straight up for a Pitcher, then they will sign Puig for 1 year 7 Mill incentive based contract
Bradley replace Margot as CF who was traded earlier today.
whynot 2
That’s quite an imagination
All American Johnsonville Dogs
If Red Sox are willing to take the entire Myers contract.
Red Sox get Myers Quantril Morejon and Bednar.
Padres take back JBJ and Durbin Feltman
Simodine
Nobody is touching bradly without money changing hands. The myers trade could work but sox dont seem to want to take on his contract.
Maybe bradly for myers padres eat around 50%. Then it would be a wash giving Myers low aav. Barely more then Bradley’s probably less if padres pay it down towards the tax cap.
I could see the padres willing to do.
Myers, quantril, morejon or baez
Sox trade bradly and eat half of Myers contract.
In total payroll would cost like 33m over 3 years for the sox – Bradley money.
Be paying like 22m for prospects which isnt too bad.
Still doubt the sox would.
fox471 Dave
About that lisp….
Javia
Nobody wants Bradley. No way the Padres will give you a pitcher for him. He is an $11 million hole.
stevecohenMVP
dodgers gave up nothing and get betts. Redsox are neophytes. Gave dodgers a one year dynasty. Also the Dodgers were cheating too. MLB has become the NFL and NBA. Garbage to watch.
Moneyballer
If you hate baseball so much why are you on a baseball rumor site commenting on how much you hate baseball?!
Comrade Tipsy McStagger
Because he loves negativity and complaining more than he hates baseball.
ColossusOfClout
LOL
fox471 Dave
Dodgers were not cheating human clown shoe.
RockLowDown
This coming from a SF Giants fan, the Dodgers won this deal twice! What in the world is the Red Sox management thinking!! How could they let graterol go to the DODGERS! I’m sure he’s going to pass the physical once the trade between the dodgers / twins goes through . Jeter downs is good but not as good as Graterol . Once again , terrible day for Red Sox fans and my giants . They should of kept Betts smh . The dodgers got more powerful SMH ♂️
All American Johnsonville Dogs
So dodgers bought a draft pick for $10 mill. Alright.
Gaterol probably goes to the pen, which dodgers need.
Rallyshirt
Who needs Riley when you can have Raley!
twins33
I preferred the original deal of Maeda for Graterol, but the Twins didn’t add anything that hurt. A draft pick, if you pick the wrong guy, could be nothing. And Raley would have a hard time passing up the OF the Twins already have plus Larnach.
Twins still get Maeda and now also nearly get his entire base contract paid for by the Dodgers. So if he’s hurt or really bad, he’s almost free of cost. Bonus. Not that I care about saving the owners money.
Will be interested to see who the Dodgers include if that part still happens. Would be nice if it was a 3B prospect or a pitcher, but hopefully the Twins would take the best player they could get regardless of position.
Moneyballer
Why a 3B prospect? That position is on lockdown for the next 4-5 seasons! Donaldson baby!
twins33
No guarantee that Donaldson can play third base for all four years and the Twins are thin at 3B prospects. Some SS prospects may move to 3B but that’s no guarantee either.
Briffle2
Don’t the Twins have some decent SS prospects? Maybe move Polanco to 3b.
Comrade Tipsy McStagger
Hold on there. They got this guy named Donaldson playing 3b now. It was in all the papers.
twins33
Already mentioned that…
twins33
Not sure why everyone is guaranteeing that Donaldson can still play 3B really well once he’s 36 and 37. It would be great if he could, but it’s nowhere near a guarantee.
CaptainHooks
Nelson Cruz will eventually retire, and leave an opening at DH for Donaldson.
Bigdj2100
Can somebody give me some instances where a team traded a one year or shorter rental and resigned em in free agency?
DarkSide830
Aroldis Chapman jumps off the top of my head.
ABCD
Kenny Lofton.
PghPinstripes
AROLDIS Chapman to the Cubs for Gleyber Torres
politicsNbaseball
Manny Ramirez
Moneyballer
Happens a lot actually. Cubs traded Jon Lester to oakland only to resign him.
ABCD
Not with the Red Sox for both Manny and Lester.
Eatdust666
No, his Cubs career began in 2015 smh.
Chief Red Cloud
Rickey Henderson…Oak traded him to Tor in 1993 and he resigned with Oak in 94′
Jbarger
now the Dodgers have all the pieces in place to trade for Bryant LOL
soylentwill
I demand a photoshopped jersey!
Dodgerblog
Maeda was good. He doesn’t get hurt. He’s a decent starter. He filled in great when Kershaw went down. He gives up the occasional one homer here and there but usually it’s a solo job. I don’t know why they let him go
fox471 Dave
He was unhappy!
twins33
So if the part that the Twins are getting back someone else from the Dodgers is true, wondering if that guy would be on their 40 man roster. Their roster was already at 40. They just added 4 more (Betts, Price, Raley and Graterol) but only subtracted 2.
Finlander
That might explain why they were trying to send so many pieces in the Angels deal (note no apostrophe).
fox471 Dave
Thank you.
twins33
And turns out it’s a guy not on the 40
Moneyballer
Like if you’re a Twins fan excited for the 2020 season!
schwing
I was before the trade. This changes nothing.
sergefunction
According to Forbes, the Maeda contract has no further incentives. They ended as of the coming season, making his haul even more shockingly low.
fred-3
Forbes is wrong
OCTraveler
The Dodgers did well on this – they got a pitcher with potential & financial control, an outfielder who they once held highly and a catcher to replace Connor Wong who went to the Red Sox for a pitcher who may or may not find success in the AL (and culturally in Minnesota) and cash.
Comrade Tipsy McStagger
I am guessing you haven’t been to the Twin Cities? Plenty of culture there. He will be fine.
OCTraveler
For a WASP-MAGA player who loves hunting, fishing and snowmobiling in the off-season maybe … but for a young Japanese player user to SoCal’s diversity probably not
Baldkid
HAHAHAHA – W-R-O-N-G
kleppy12
The Twins got the catch also, not the Dodgers.
the.sophisticant
It good for maeda. he is good player. twins are good team. dodgers will miss maeda. he is good plaeyr
YakAttack
Do you think Maeda is a good player?
the.sophisticant
yes. madea is a good player cus i watch him on tv lik 4 time. he was very strong and qeeck. his throw are like whowa man!
sacko
thank you Boston for giving the Dodgers the 2020 world series.
JoeBrady
You’re welcome. And thank you LAD for helping the RS out of the morass they were in.
Rich Hill’s Elbow
Since the Angels missed out on Pederson, is it possible they’d want Jake Cave??
Moneyballer
I definitely like that this season the Twins will have both Kenta Maeda and Rich Hill. How appropriate would it be if the Dodgers met the Twins in the fall classic? I’m making the call, it’s gonna happen!
Finlander
Rematch of 1965! Slugging Twins versus Dodgers pitching. Koufax was ridiculous.
aaronbj
Rich Hill will not pitch until late in season! He is to injury prone! Have fun with that!
pjmcnu
Can we expect any more “last pieces”, or is that it?
rudyrudnick
maeda will get his wish and be a starter did not like pitching out of the bullpen for the dodgers even though he did well
CaptainHooks
Best of luck to Byron Wallbanger. Here is hoping he doesn’t injure himself or a corner outfielder or an infielder in 2020. If not, the Cave man will help Eddie and Maxie track down whatever the pitchers serve up.
CaptainHooks
