Veteran southpaw Scott Kazmir is serious about a second comeback. He’s going to begin auditioning for teams this week, per ESPN.com’s Buster Olney (via Twitter).
The 36-year-old has already indicated as much. He says he is working into the lower nineties with his fastball and even showed some brief video evidence of his current form. But we won’t really know much about his outlook as a rebound candidate until he has drawn looks from MLB scouts.
It isn’t clear just yet which teams are interested in having a gander at this latest iteration of the twelve-year big-league veteran. Quite a few will no doubt at least consider the possibility.
Kazmir has endured quite a few low points over the years but has had his share of peaks as well. He’s a 4.01 ERA pitcher over 1,689 2/3 career frames. And he was even better than that in his second stretch in the majors. From 2013-16, Kazmir logged 667 2/3 frames of 3.75 ERA ball with 8.3 K/9 and 2.8 BB/9.
Thanks goodness this isn’t an Astros headline.
he was born in houston
He’s been hitting trashcans since birth.
So maybe Boston should give him a shot since they have no pitching.
no hes already signed with Texas
It’ll be quite a comeback if he makes it onto a team as he hasn’t pitched since 2016. I’ll give it to him for trying as there is plenty of competition out there for minor-league deals.
Someone will definitely give him a shot, as many teams are desperate for starting pitching.
No way he’s coming back as a starter
why is there no way he can comeback as a starter? please explain
Maybe Zambrano will come out of retirement
I think you mean Carlos
Meanwhile Victor Zambrano pops open a cold one.
When this guy got traded for Zambrano, I asked my friend if the Mets got Carlos. No, he said, we got the $h!tty Zambrano = (
There are 15 teams out in Phoenix. Seems a logical spot to hold an open workout, get some feedback and see if this attempt has potential.
Oh, let the sun beat down upon Scott’s face
Stars fill his dreams
He is a traveler from all time and space…
Not sure why Texas would sign him. Last time I looked, that rotation and bullpen was looking pretty good.
Gibson-Lyles as your bottom two is scary for a playoff contender
I don’t consider them a playoff contender
I’m just saying what they have in place is more than what Kasmir brings to the table
1 they typically go through 8-10 starters a season, so depth is always good
2. I dont see how everyone sees the rotation as a huge improvement, looks to me like the same buy low, possibly high payoff signings theyve been making. They hit on minor and lynn but whiffed on miller, volquez, smyly, and moore. Not a smart way to build a playoff or longterm rotation

Seems to be an echo in here.

I dunno why it does that, happens regularly
The app doesn’t close the text entry box after you hit the submit button. So you might hit it multiple times.
patience
Why not? He’s only earned 98.5 million dollars as a MLB pitcher. He wants to join the 100M club. I mean, that’s a lot of shifts at Wal Mart.
Detroit offered him a minor league invite contract
Next year, he’ll be pitching for the Hiroshima Carp
Ham Fighters
I think his chances of making it back may be better as a reliever, especially at 36 years old. With all the injuries he’s had, I wouldn’t trust his arm to hold up to starting anymore.
Angels should be his agent’s first phone call. Possible they hand him $10-mil.
Blue Jays should take a flier on him. Be a mentor to the younger guys in Buffalo. If he performs, call him up.
I was surprised to see he and i are the same age. For some reason I thought he was a few years older.
Fool me once….fool me twice, something something
Pirates
Seattle or maybe KC?
Red Sox have a need for starting pitching.
Hasn’t he already had like eight successful comebacks
Eppler will be all over this one. Maybe $30 million for 2. Hey if the Dark Knight was worth 1 for $11 million surely someone who hasn’t pitched for a couple of years is worth more, at least in his mind.
BAL, MIA, KC, DET, PIT: all teams that could use the rotation depth and might even give a starters role out of ST. For potential contenders, I could see STL, LAA, or OAK give him a shot.
PHL also lacks starters. Of course, that ballpark might not be a good fit for a junkballer.
Go Cubs. Another cheap useless option like the rest of this off-season. I am losing patience
Lefty, inning eater come back bid.. seems like a Ray and NH signing.. wonder if Ben will take a look
I would love to see Kazmir go to MN.
Yes. Just came on here to say this would be the typical twins move. Someone cheap that’s either old or coming off of an injury. Could see that for sure!
