The Phillies have outrighted outfielder Nick Martini after he cleared waivers, according to a team announcement. He’s going to stay in camp as a non-roster player.
Martini, 29, was recently dropped from the menu in favor of new addition Kyle Garlick. They’ll end up competing to join the same outfield mix, though the former is a left-handed hitter and the latter swings from the right side.
This worked out well for the Phils, as they’ll get to keep the depth on hand for the rest of camp. Martini had a nice 2018 showing in the majors but drooped in the next campaign. He owns a .401 career OBP through nearly fifteen hundred career plate appearances at Triple-A.

bro his family is going to be shaken by this news.
imcfrank
He may just be stirred to play harder for a roster spot.

Have to give him credit he never was afraid to get his uniform dirty
Daver520
Well they do clean it for free …

His word is his……bond. I’ll see myself out.

Sorry I guess my joke was marGINal at best
Gwynning
Olive these jokes are good
TheJoker
As as Old Timer, I find the humor here very dry.

Old fashioned type player. He should go to Manhattan.

Al Oliver played for the Phillies for a bit i think
cjelepis
I wonder if he’ll stay UP with the big club or hit the ROCKS.
DVail1979
Leave Tom Brunansky out of this lol … He was a tremendous player with a cannon arm for both St Louis and Minnesota among others … he played with heart and was one of the truly good ones
HalosHeavenJJ
Kind of surprised he’s bounced around rosters this much and I’m sure he didn’t really want to switch clubs again after getting to Spring Training.
It isn’t as bad in the Cactus League as there are 15 teams all right next to each other, but out in Florida it is a move.
bobtillman
So Giradi prefers Garlick to a Martini…..no wonder he always looks mad…..
rawbar
Italians love Garlick.
DarkSide830
nice depth to hold onto. im pleased
painterman360
I can toast to this!

The Phils need some right-hand pop off the bench. The utility guys they have in ST can hit one but not really a threat to hit one out. He’s also probably the left fielder if Cutch isn’t ready by opening day.

The ladder foreman chose his new ladder over the other ladder, for the latter had the form of his former ladder which was lacking quality ladder form, and the former formed the perfect ladder.
Gwynning
What about the guy that used to made the molds for ladders, you know, the former ladder former?
anthonyd4412
I haven’t seen so many people drop a martini since my college days
nymetsking
Martini and Garlick together? I can’t imagine that’s a great combination.
nymetsking
BTW Jeff, “dropped from the menu” = A+
Melchez
He will make a great depth pick up. His AAA numbers are great.

3 Martinis is enough for a standard social outing. A wise man once told me: “1 Martini, 2 Martini, 3 Martini…floor”
SDHotDawg
I like Martini. Good defense, good contact hitter, OBP machine, and a lefty.
I wish Preller was smart enough to get him back. We could use him in our OF mix this year.
VegasSDfan
He could be our 6th or 7th outfielder.
Seemed decent to me as well.
SDHotDawg
Who are the 5-6 guys ahead of him? I don’t see that many.
Gwynning
Pham, Myers, Franchy, Grisham, Naylor, Lagares with Mejia and Profar able to play some outfield days, too
SDHotDawg
No way Naylor, Mejia, Profar are better. Franchy can’t play defense, and Grisham hasn’t shown a thing. Lagares can play D, but he can’t hit and he’s slowed down; he may not even make the team.
