I wish it would be just over. Sad day in RS nation, but it hasta be done.
RunDMC
BOS doesn’t even have a manager less than a month before pitchers report. If you can dump any of Price’s deal AND get any prospects worth anything in return AND make Eck happy (lol) — well, that’s a win. Maybe LAD can send over Bob Geren to manage.
Diggydugler
how is this a sad day? RS win any trade most likely, especially if they are able to dump Price as well. And if they want they can re-sign Betts next off season and make out like bandits (see Chapman, Yankees)
Chief Two Hands
I think the odds of Betts signing with the Sox are slim to none after all this drama.
rememberthecoop
Dude, it’s called M-O-N-E-Y. Trust me, come with the cash and usually most players will overlook a lot of stuff.
Diggydugler
Exactly. Money trumps all in 99+% of the cases. Obviously that also takes into account “tax rates” and other incentives so some teams may have to pay more so the player makes more net dolla bills.
bradthebluefish
Exactly. Mookie only cares about the money. Hence why he refuses to talk about an extension.

Why not? He’s in his prime and he’s got one shot for a contract somewhere that will set him and his family up for life. Nobody stays young forever.
That being said, I think it’s a sucker deal for whoever rents him.
dan-9
I don’t blame Mookie at all for holding out, but let’s not pretend that $200M vs. $400M makes any difference at all as far as “setting him and his family up for life”. If he wanted to, he could sign a deal this week that would guarantee his entire family’s wealth for the next hundred years.
JoeBrady
And the difference is less than that. I think the RS offered $300M. And Betts countered with $420M. But I doubt he gets close to $420M. I think if he gets traded to SD, he’s going to go from being the #2 player in BB to more like a tie with the Arenados & Rendon types.
mcdusty49
Wyclef?
Ebouch25
The thing with Betts is that he isn’t worth a resign unless it’s for about $25M for 5 years, which would never happen. Unfortunately, that’s all he’s worth considering his size. He’ll be a nobody in 5 years.

JustCheckingIn
Drama? It’s the offseason. He’s making 27M next year. Before St, he prob couldn’t give less of a you know what
Once the teams together and he has media in his face daily. Sure. But to say offseason rumors means he’s gone is a bit quick
JustCheckingIn
Yeah cause doubling your money has no actual financial impact. Gotta love mlbtr
dan-9
You knew what I meant. When you’re talking about amounts in the hundreds of millions of dollars, “setting yourself up for life” is no longer a concern, whether you have $400M or “only” $100M. You and your family are set for life either way.
Don’t tell me you didn’t understand that, Commonsenseslapsyou. You’re smarter than that, right? You wouldn’t just reflexively post a snarky response without bothering to think about it for 2 seconds, would you?
JustCheckingIn
I mean… sure I can see what you mean but do you really think there’s no diff btwn 200 and 400M? Like… even one million is a lot
25 and 50 bucks sure. But hundreds of millions is the gap we’re talking here…
The concepts fun to say but if you’re choosing btwn 200M and 400M don’t tell me you’d say “nah 200 is good enough”. You take your money like any other human

number1dodger
The dodgers need to stay away from this deal. It’s not worth signing him for what could be one year. And more than likely they would give up some players to get him. And at the end of the season not only do you lose the players that you traded to get Mookie. but you would also lose Mookie as well.
peterdipersio06
That one move could fetch you a WS title or multiple titles! Are you sure you don’t want to make that deal ?
JoeBrady
Because it is Betts, interest is heightened, but this is like every other s/t deal. Stars get traded with either year left, or two months left, all the time.
The team acquiring the star usually overpays in prospects. If you win the WS, no one will ever mention the prospects again. If you don’t win, they will mention the prospects every day.
In terms of value, the RS got killed on the Beckett deal, but won a WS. They will likely get beat on the Sale deal also. But they won a WS, and you almost never hear anyone talking about giving the prospects in those two trades.
mlbdodgerfan2015
All of that is priced in don’t you think? No pun intended. The acquisition cost is much less for Betts knowing that he will be a free agent next year. They won’t be trading away significant players, especially if Price is included, which I believe is necessary for the Dodges. They don’t want to give away key players and prospects. They are never going to sign Betts in the offseason. This is win-win for them especially if they can get Pollock in the deal or else the Sox will have to throw in lots of cash for Price’s contract.
TeddyBallgameYazJimEd
If they take on Price too I would do it for 2 mid level prospects
Chief Two Hands
I think Friedman would rather sign another bust to a bad contract. Kasten needs to step in again and make the right decision. If not for Kasten, the Dodgers would have Kapler as a manager right now. That is who Friedman was going to hire before Kasten stepped in and made Friedman hire Roberts. Kasten needs to take over. Someone does, because Friedman isn’t getting it done.
JustCheckingIn
Hahahaha
He’s averaged 100 wins every year he’s run the team, and simultaneous built the farm to top 3 if the tops in the game
Yeah Friedman is the worst!
Batman69
I can’t believe no one is talking about Mookie / Price going to the Angels. Is it because it makes too much sense? Mookie Trout Rendon 123 would be the best in the league. And Price is the front end guy the angels need. If they take on Price they don’t even have to give up Adell which gives Jo another full year (was hurt to start last Year) to get seasoned in Salt Lake
dynasty in boston
And the Sox get???
BobSacamano
So true
arne23
Price is not a front end guy anymore. Well maybe for the Angels I guess. But for the Dodgers, he’d probably be there number 3 or 4 at best.
dan-9
Zero chance of the Angels taking on Mookie and Price’s contracts. They already have $111.5 M committed to four players for the 2020 season (Trout, Pujols, Rendon, Upton). Adding Mookie and Price would make it $170.5 M for 6 players.
Chief Two Hands
It would be the only way the Angels would be a contender. They are the only team that needs Price.
Protein barsoap1
If a team “NEEDS PRICE”, that team is not a contender.
PinstripedPride
Eh, San Diego could sure use Price
downeysoft420
Alright Mookie rendon and trout would be absolutely unfair. But it would definitely cripple their already weak farm and they just simply can’t afford to do that and add money for 1 year when they just got the other 2 locked up long term
Smelly_Cobb
Realistically, Price is not a TOR pitcher. But that would be nasty to have those three perennial MVP candidates.
Diggydugler
He was a TOR pitcher in 2015 for a few months.
Chief Two Hands
The Angels have an owner who is willing to spend and wants the team to win. They don’t for a reason. That front office needs an overhaul….and has had that need for many years.
WhiteSoxWinner
Why does he keep calling him Muckie
Bruin1012
Man there seems to be a lot of smoke around this rumor it sure is looking like Mookie is being traded. I still have a hard time seeing the inclusion of Price in any Mookie deal. Still it looks like a pretty high chance that Mookie is gone hope that Chaim Bloom get the right package back.
evelandsrule
Love the Smokers jersey. I have the original design template for that jersey on my wall.

I do think the Giants should sign Buster Posey’s good friend, Hunter Pence.
Rumncoke
A 1 year rental for a tool. no thanks
bbatardo
Padres need Betts more than the Dodgers, but even with him the Dodgers are still taking the division (I’m a Padre fan too).. I have been saying all along the Padres should bite the bullet and pay the extra money for Betts. He is the difference between .500 and fighting for the wild card at the end of the year.
Diggydugler
but what happens once the season is over and they are not going to pay Mookie, they also did not win the WS and they traded away several highly touted prospects?
JoeBrady
Some of what SD would give up are redundencies. Naylor likely can’t play for them unless they can trade Hosmer. Mejia is likely there thru 2024, so Campusano is expendable. Quantrill is useful, but they have a large number of #3 types. Baez has some talent, but is still an RP. The guys they really need to keep, Gore & Patino, will still be there.
VegasSDfan
Mejia has the offense, Campusano has both. I would trade some of our 2nd tier prospects, but none of our top 10.
zuantonbomb
To a team(LAD) whos been waiting 30+ years and has been right there, they could use a talent like Mookie to put them over the top big time. They are dealing with a very flexible payroll and have redundant talent. Right where the Sox were when DD made those moves and won a WSC. I doubt LA let the “1year rental” worry them. They just reset. If its Mookie alone then the return will be at least 1MLB roster guy and 2 prospects. Not Lux or the other top prospect(name?). With Price, it’ll go down to 1 prospect or MLB player. depending on how much of the contract Boston eats will depend on the return. I guarantee they’ll be willing eat some of it though.
Either way, a deal makes too much sense for these teams.
If SD took price, then Myers contract(14m aav) makes more sense for a swap for Boston. SD can go above their set number. They’re under the LT and would lose 27m with Mookie after next year. They dont seem willing to go there though, even though their GM is on the hot seat this year. This weekend will be interesting…somethings going down soon.

All I can say is: The guy in the video…….told……us…..nothing.

More fake rumors than trade rumors.
clayram83
This is what I think is probably happening:
1. Mookie and Price’s full contract FOR Verdugo, Dennis Santana, and Pollock’s full contract
2. Mookie and $16 mil/year (half) of Price’s contract FOR Verdugo, Gonsolin, and Pollock’s full contract
3. Mookie FOR Verdugo and Gonsolin
Mookie
Javia
I think it will be Mookie for Verdugo straight up. Mookie alone puts LA right up against the luxury tax. There is no way they take Price and go $30 million over the lux tax. They have May, Urias and Gonsolin all itching to take that fifth spot in the rotation, and any of the 3 will outperform Price. All LA has to do to get Betts is beat San Diego’s offer. They can do that with Verdugo alone. Nobody is begging to give the Sox prospects.
clayram83
I think Mookie for Verdugo straight up is fair, but I can’t see that happening. I think it just wouldn’t sit right with the Sox to let go of Mookie for just one young player who only played half of his rookie season because of back trouble. He’s good, but I think another guy needs to be in there. I think the Sox will want one of the young pitchers even if it’s not May or Gonsolin. Maybe Verdugo and Mitchell White?
Javia
I can see that happening clayram83.
JustCheckingIn
Half? He played in 106 games.
And put up 3.1 bwar. And is 23. And mashes lefties. And doesn’t cost 27M
Let’s stop underselling verdugo’s value and his durability. He missed Part of Aug and Sept
JustCheckingIn
Why does every keep acting like this trade has to solve everything or it could never happen
So what la goes over the luxury tax. They can easily trade Joc, Kike, Taylor and clear 20m… from the bench
If it lowers the cost enough, la will take the contract and make another deal. Book it
clayram83
4. Mookie and $16 mil/year (half) of Price’s contract FOR Verdugo, Keibert, and Dennis Santana
All get Boston under the luxury tax line. But Boston hesitant to take on Pollock’s contract and the Dodgers weighing the risk of losing years of control on young guys for 1 year of Mookie
Javia
Everyone talks about the Dodgers as if they spend money like drunken sailors on shore leave. They don’t. They are quite fiscally responsible. THEY DO NOT WANT TO GO OVER THE CAP! If they take Price then Boston will end up giving them both Betts and Price essentially for free.
Everyone says that the Padres will need to include Gore or Patino+ in any trade to get rid of Myers. Both have more value individually than Betts with 6 years of control as opposed to Betts with only 1 year. Price costs $30 million morethan Myers, and every cent of his contract that LA takes on will be money over the cap for them. It’s not happening.
JustCheckingIn
You have no proof other than your caps. Thanks for playing
Javia
Your comment said absolutely nothing. The luxury tax was created to be a punishment to keep rich teams from outspending all the others. Just try saying the word “tax” commonsenseslapsyou. Try telling everyone here that you don’t mind if your taxes go up. See what kind of response you get. The luxury tax is a punishment. Now you may enjoy being punished lackofcommonsensegetsyouslapped, but 99.999% of the population does not.
JustCheckingIn
Thanks for the insult
You have no proof they won’t go over the tax
They paid the tax in 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 and 2017
They paid 150 million IN THOSE TAXES/PENALTIES
Then they spent 199M in 18 and 19 while offering Harper 45M AAV, Cole 36M AAV in each offseason- aka would have blown the tax for a superstar- and continuing to win 100 games
You are talking so far out of your backside you don’t know what’s up from down
Javia
Price is anything but a superstar. Would LA rather have Urias, May, Gonsolin or Price starting for them? All 3 of them far outpitched Price last year. I’m sure they can’t wait to sit all of that huge talent on the bench to accommodate an old guy making $32 million with an ERA a run and a half higher than any of them. Would you pay $96,000 for a Pinto? Why do you think the Dodgers will pay $96 million for one? They can get Betts without taking on Price.
Spare Tire Dixon
I’m pretty amazed the Dodgers have not gotten this done already. Especially since they have the resources to lock him up long term
JustCheckingIn
Makes me think Bos had crazy price tag on just Mookie- like Gavin Lux or May++ others
And they’ve been haggling over price’s money (maybe if they take pollock or not) since
LA knows SD has Myers as a near requirement, and after Gore their systems are close. LA is hoping Boston blinks and will eat Price money/agree to take pollock
Otherwise, yeah, doesn’t make sense why it hasn’t happened
Spare Tire Dixon
A year of this lineup would be worth a couple prospects, I’d say…
1. Seager, SS (L)
2. Betts, RF (R)
3. Bellinger, CF (L)
4. Turner, 3B (R)
5. Pederson, LF (L)
6. Muncy, 1B (L)
7. Smith, C (R)
8. Lux, 2B (L
Spare Tire Dixon
I wonder if the Braves could/would sneak into the Betts sweepstakes. That lineup would be strong overnight
Acuna, RF (R)
Albies, 2B (S)
Betts, CF (R)
Freeman, 1B (L)
Ozuna, LF (R)
Swanson, SS (R)
D’Arnaud, C (R)
Camargo, 3B (S)
its_happening
They should be in on Betts. Deal Inciarte and a couple prospects, maybe 3, then QO Betts after the season.
Bruin1012
I would switch Acuna and Betts Nat Acuna third.
Bruin1012
“Bat”
Ebouch25
Any team that locks Mookie up is an idiot. That guy is overrated and not worth anything close to Trout money, but he’ll get it. Hopefully it’s not with the Red Sox. Mookie’s comp is McCutchen and look what happened to him in the last few years.
Bruin1012
I do worry how he will age. I could be wrong but think he will have 3 maybe 4 more elite years before starting to decline. Hope I’m wrong but just have a feeling he relies so much on lightning quick reflexes and quick wrists for his offense. He should be a good defensively for a awhile great instincts.
JustCheckingIn
Can’t play defense if you’re injured tho..
theloop
LA/Bos need a dance partner. 3-team this bish and stop with the nonsense that Price/Betts are ONLY a package deal.
redsoxrob9418
Can anyone tell me one mega deal that worked out for the team that signed the player seems like half way through the team is talking about trying to eat the balance of the contract when the player performance drops off and the next stud comes along that’s better…. then don’t think anyone is worth 300 million Betts will have an above average year this year and still demand 300 plus Because of what he did two years ago and declined ever since
brucenewton
Boston will claim an AL wild card but lose the division to Tampa.
