Strike Four
BTV allows a Merrifield-Montas straight up trade to happen.
jorge78
Merrifield isn’t going anywhere…..
twentyforty
Neither is Bryant if we’re playing that game.
Strike Four
Everyone has their price. The Royals are at least 3 years away. Merrifields next 3+ seasons are going to be entirely wasted. He might as well not even play.
If Merrifield himself demands a trade, he will get one. Even after Ernie Banks, pretty sure no one wants to be known as a good player on a last place team his whole career.
RunDMC
Mike Trout doesn’t mind it.
pasha2k
Or Machado.
chippahawk
You guys sure skip over some great questions to instead waste the time answering ones like “will the Braves trade for Sano now? Palm meat forehead
slowcurve
meet
dynamite drop in monty
Palm Meat Forehead opened for Tool once.
chippahawk
Amazing band name and palm meat is amazing med rare, just like walleye cheeks.. Nom Nom
hockeyjohn
Just because the numbers add up doesn’t mean that it makes sense. What KC values may be different than what another team values.
jorge78
Guess I will be getting up earlier next Sunday!
Melchez
I will be skipping church.
Ezpkns34
Does Merrifield donate every cent of his contract to local KC charities or something? Why is he untouchable?
jorge78
Moore (the GM) thinks highly of him, he’s a fan favorite with a low cost long contract and the Royals remember they are in the entertainment business. Moore is incredibly loyal (for whatever reason) to the players he loves (see the ridiculous/overpay Gordon extension…..
jtvincent
he might just be waiting for the right offer.
jorge78
The Royals just don’t think like other teams. It’s a midwest thing…..
jtvincent
lol what. that is insane.
jorge78
I meant it as a compliment.
They value loyalty.
And they want the fans to be able to cheer one of their favorite players…..
AssumeFactsNotInEvidence
espn.com/mlb/attendance
And boy do they come out and cheer for Merrifield! Couldn’t even draw more fans than the worst team in the major leagues!
jimthegoat
What’s more important: loyalty or wins?
dbec72
When I saw that Baker was thought to be a good fit anywhere and a great coach I stopped reading. Anyone who thinks that lazy bum who has no clue how to run a club and destroyed several arms is a moron. He had so many chances to make the world series and choked ie a loser.
jtvincent
lol anyone who ignores history and several pitcher accounts of support for him must be a salty clown from chi town. his players love him and he wins. but hey be mad because players blew the game. then the bums ran a poor guy out of town because the players blew it. sound like a bunch of clowns to me
maximumvelocity
First, he had made a WS, and was within a game of making two others.
He also has won at least one division title every stop, including in Cincinnati.
Baker is a very good manager.
black69
Yea, I don’t think Dusty is an all time great…but if my team was four weeks from pitchers and catchers reporting sans manager, I’d be pleased as a pig in slop to get him.
jimthegoat
His teams choke in the postseason left and right. And with the rosters he has inherited he better win a couple division titles.
Baker is average at best. I honestly don’t know what he’s done to deserve being a “respected” manager.
jtvincent
reds are terrified.

“Real hard to ensure a World Series when the AL keeps cheating”- Dodgers
Balk
A lot of players used steroids and never got caught, same for probably every team on this cheating scandal also.
yaktheripper
But we know of at least 2 AL teams recently…and those teams also probably had steroid users in the 90s as well. The defense of “steroids meant everyone was cheating” doesn’t mean these latest examples should be ignored or dropped so swiftly. This is a BIG story and fans and teams alike are upset about it. It won’t be going away soon because it’s an inconvenience for fans of those teams, not that those fans are guilty, mind you.
Strike Four
PEDs arent cheating though.
retire21
LOL
black69
Umm….
Melchez
Ok, I posted a question… knew it wouldnt get answered, but then I posted a reply and it was deleted.
I just said, before you know it the umps will be like TSA agents greeting the batter’s with their wand, scanning to make sure they weren’t wired. Making them take their shoes off. Checking under their hats.
RicoD
It want funny the first time, it isn’t funny now.
Melchez
Did it get posted?
jorge78
It’s still not funny…..
black69
Post it a third time. Things usually get funnier the more you explain them.
dynamite drop in monty
Drebin style
Melchez
I also asked “velcro or laces shoes?” Thought for sure that would be a winner.

What was said about Castellanos?
Ejemp2006
Castellanos waited too long, should’ve followed the Cutch playbook and sell himself to the first decent bid.
I would love to see him in a hitters park like Cincinnati, Colorado, or Baltimore but those seem unlikely. Now it’s probably the Padres 5/60.
Melchez
Hes unplayable in the field.
RicoD
He physically plays in the field, even for the Cubs who didn’t complain about defense. Joe madden actually defended his criticism and there have been well documented articles on his weaknesses as well as his recent progress.
I’m guessing you’re a tigers fan.
Melchez
I was repeating what mlbtr always says. Castellanos isn’t terrible in the field. He catches what he gets to and he has a decent arm. He just lacks range.
bhambrave
If that field is Comerica Park, I agree with you.
mistry gm
Melchez, watch a gme sometime, then comment. 51 games with the Cubs and ZERO errors. Golden glover Heyward had six.
stlouiskid1
The Cubs save $30-40 million this season if they stay under the tax. Do some research man.
Also to think Heyward has no value is ridiculous. He projects as a 2 War player this season.
RicoD
Serious question, how is that the case? If that is true then I understand their unproven you to get under but my understanding is they will just pay 30% penalty on the amount they go over… so 10m over, 3m penalty.
68tigers84
If I remember right, I think Heyward was injured much of the 2nd half. Trying to play through the injuries.
