Tieran
“What did you think about the Carlos Martinez, Dakota Hudson, Matt Liberatore, and Tyler O’Neill proposal for Arenado?”
That would be beyond insane from the Cardinals…even if he waived his opt out
dgarn
I am surprised it would include CMart and Hudson. They are both supposed to be in the rotation. Who steps up now? Ponce, Gomber? It’s too late to sign some of the options they could have had.
Strike Four
STL current rotation is Flaherty-Mikolas-Hudson-Waino-Kim right now, so only Hudson would leave that.
Reyes, Cabrera, Ponce, Gomber, plus whoever is out on the FA market would fill the spot. CMart is the closer as of right now, but again, getting Taijuan Walker for pretty much nothing would be an excellent move for STL to fill either role.
cards81
They have said many times they want Martinez in the rotation…Kim most likely is out of the pen
cards81
Geez can’t have a little trash talking on here anymore without the conversation being deleted lol
Strike Four
Roster Resource, a company that knows more than you, has Cmart at closer right now. So. Yeah. Dont care what you think.
cards81
Lol I could care less what roster resource says…I follow the cardinals religiously and they have stated that they want him in the rotation…that is were he is at his best…and it has been reported by reliable resources that say the cardinals want him in the rotation…not like the writer Levine says about the trade for Arenado lol…and yes only Levine has reported it
dmarcus15
Gallegos can take over the closer role until Hicks comes back to normal.
I think the Cards are ok to deal CMart and Hudson. Carlos has had issues with health and I think his contract hurts too.
mateodh
They want him to show in Spring that he’s healthy enough for the rotation- right now they’re not counting on it.
macstruts
Right 81, because there is not a lot of trash talking on the internet.
macstruts
You should both care what Roster Resource says, but no one should take it as gospel either.
I’m an Angel fan, does anyone think La Stella is the leadoff hitter second baseman?
It’s pretty well known that the Cardinals want to use Martinez in the rotation. No one knows if Martinez is capable of being in the rotation. My guess is yes, but it’s just a guess.
jbigz12
Lmao roster resource says C-Mart is a closer in January so that’s the only option. I will not listen to anything else. Jason Martinez has him listed as a closer; he must be a closer!
That site is great for tracking 40 man rosters- specifically players option years and when they need to be added to the 40 man. Not for telling you what the plan is with Carlos Martinez in January. He ended last year as the closer—they probably didn’t even bother to update it with their closing situation in flux.

The only way I see it happening if Gray is also part of the deal for the reason that you mentioned

Gant
Strike Four
Merrifield and Hill for Montas and Pinder works for both sides.
RunDMC
Wouldn’t work for KC, gotta keep Montas on the west coast close to his supplier.
Strike Four
Then that would mean it wouldnt work for Montas, not KC smdh
RunDMC
In your proposed deal KC would be getting Montas but without a steady supply of PEDs, which made him valuable. So it wouldn’t work for KC.
I bet you’re fun at parties.
RunDMC
Negative reply? Don’t blame me for Montas’ 80-game suspension.
DarkSide830
A’s arent doing that with so much INF depth and few proven SP
Strike Four
Oh you are not downplaying Puk and Luzardo in front of me!
I have both of them getting Cy votes next year, lmao….
jorge78
When will you people get it through your heads that
Merrifield ISN’T GOING ANYWHERE!!!!!
Strike Four
Yup, he’s going to be on a sub-.500 team his entire career. Really cool of him to admit he’s not about winning.
DTD_ATL
It’s not like he can force his way on to another team. If the Royals want him, he stays. How is that hard to understand?
cygnus2112
That’s a joke, correct? C’mon dude, get real.
Vanilla Good
Hey Mark, just wanted to say that even though you didn’t answer any of my questions (sob sob), I really appreciate you going two hours for a chat. Well done.
jorge78
This chat started over two hours ago yet it didn’t get posted on the Android app until 32 minutes ago. Not right!
No fair! I keep asking the question “MLB will soon debut its 20,000 player. Will MLB or MLBTR mark the occasion?
It’s mind boggling that almost 20,000 players have played in “the show” but only a few hundred have long careers and top 50 stats. Mind boggling!
nymetsking
It showed up on my droid when it started.
John Kappel
same here. time to get a new phone dude.
braves25
It doesn’t get answered because it is a stupid question.
Top 50 stats means top 50 stats! How is that mind boggling?
jorge78
Children
please
stop!
bigcheesegrilledontoast
Hold on to Liberatore, sign Ozuna, forget about Arenado and Betts for the time being, revisit it during the season before the trade deadline. Playoffs a long way away and the Cards won’t have to give up as much as they would have to now.
bigcheesegrilledontoast
If Boston are out of contention by the mid season trade deadline the Cards might be able to rent Betts and only have to give up Liberatore.
cards81
I see what you are saying and it’s a smart idea but I think the Cardinals want to build a team that last more than a season…they just traded for Goldy and you add Arenado that is a good team… then Arenado would be the leader to Carlson and Gorman
bigcheesegrilledontoast
For sure Arenado would make StLouis the best defensive infield in Baseball, would be exciting to watch.
cards81
For sure the cardinals would have the best defensive infield…and with Bader or Thomas plus Carlson the outfield wouldn’t be bad…exciting times for sure
Ejemp2006
Pump the breaks. The Angels have an all time infield defense right now.
bravesfan88
Guys, to make these chats content a little better and more interesting…CAN WE PLEASE, stop asking about topics that have already been covered on a daily basis here in the articles..
Let’s please try to be a little more original/intelligent with our questions, for everyone’s sake…
Although, I honestly don’t know what is more troubling, the fact that a lot of people keep asking about uh t the same thing UK NHS chat after chat, or that each writer keeps answering the same questions over and over…lol
Payne Train
Lol I get what your saying – it does get annoying . And then only part of the question gets answered on top of that or it will get a rhetorical response.
But In their defense – it’s mostly because they are chasing the story (Or talking about what all the rumors for the day are), same as a news network does.
Old User Name
The half dozen Will Myers trade questions per chat gets old.
Melchez
I asked “nachos or tacos” and he chose to answer the “hamburger or hot dog” question.
smh
canocorn
Tacos.
chippahawk
Definitely chalupas or burritos FTW
retire21
All 4 of these in my America.
Big glove502
These guys don’t touch tough questions with a ten foot pole. If the questions show that they are slightly more knowledgeable than you it hurts their standing among their flock of sheep. Ask me the dumb questions. I have the same answers they will.
thetruth 2
How is Schilling not a Hall of Famer based on his stats?
Lol at SF rejecting Heyward for Cueto due to “needing pitching“ and not his bad contract.
Jean Matrac
So Heyward’s contract isn’t bad, but Cueto’s is? Cueto is potentially more valuable by far than Heyward is. SF would be stupid to take Heyward straight up for Cueto, because Cueto could bring back far more than Heyward at the deadline. There are teams that would like to have Cueto. Lol that any team would want Heyward.
thetruth 2
Cuero for prospects is another lol
Saint Chris
Completely agree. I wouldn’t trade Cueto for Heyward, either, but Mark’s assertion that Cueto would bring back prospects in a trade, to me, is completely wrong. The truth is, to unload the Cueto contract, SF would need to include cash and their own prospects.
Could this change by the trade deadline if Cueto shows he can still pitch after the long injury history and the sub par showing before it? Sure. But it’s hardly a sure thing.
thetruth 2
Boston aren’t trading Betts to cut costs, it’s about him refusing an extension.
Ejemp2006
It’s about the Padres. San Diego will give Betts 400 million next off season.
jaysfansince1977
Really, answering a question about the Blue Jays by using the numbers from a poll that was still running?? Over 50 % of Your Pollsters had Ryu going to other destinations than the Jays! The least you could do is give your own opinion to a question which is what most people are requesting not use some poll which the person who wrote the question no doubt already saw!!!
Devildog_2123
If the rockies trade arenado one year into his extension why would storey sign an extension? Just to get traded next year? He would definitely want a no trade clause
