We’ll use this post to track some minor signings throughout the day…
- The Indians added a pair of minor leaguers, the team announced (via Twitter). Southpaw Gunner Leger and catcher Yojhan Quevedo will report to minor league camp at the beginning of March. A Louisiana native originally drafted in the 26th round by the Miami Marlins, Leger, 24, instead returned to the University of Louisiana in his hometown of Lafayette, where he concluded a successful NCAA career after the 2019 season. Leger went 24-13 with a 2.44 ERA across 63 games, 53 starts in college. Williamsport fanatics might remember Leger as a first baseman and pitcher for a Lake Charles team that made it all the way to the United States finals before losing to perennial challenger, Hawaii, in 2008.
- Quevedo, 26, is a Venezuelan native whose latest baseball action came in the Venezuelan Winter League each of the past two seasons. The catcher is clearly on the older end of the prospect spectrum, thought catchers often develop later. His latest output impressed with a .371/.378/.411 line across 136 plate appearances in the winter league.

Leger returned to college and didn’t get drafted again after supposedly having a successful career. Not to mention he was a mid round pick… he got his minor league contract, but crazy to think he didn’t get drafted again. Shows there is no science to the draft when there prob needs to be.

i would agree. seems like very draftable numbers, though it did look like he took a gap year or something given his age.

ah my mistake, he redshirted in 2018. that explains it i guess.

Yeah I agree seems weird… I mean especially seeing as he was pretty effective throughout his collegiate career. It’s not like he totally bombed in the NCAA and even had some success in Summer League play. Looks like a solid signing for the Indians essentially adding another mid-round draft pick for “free” other than his contract cost obviously.

My only other question is did he get hurt his senior year? Because he went from being a SP with 90+ IPs to only pitching 30-something innings his senior year. If so I suppose that could explain why he went undrafted in 19

he had a handfull of injuries that kept him out in 2018. im assuming that couldve had to do with the fact that he didnt sign with the Marlins after his junior year (possibly also after falling on draft boards)

He had TJ surgery in 2017 which was why he went from a probable top 10 round pick to round 26. He also ended up getting a cyst in his left leg/hip bone that resulted in him having surgery to put a giant metal rod in. Left leg being your plant leg for a LHP, probably scared some teams off:

Wish nothing but the best for Gunner Leger. Tough kid to battle through those injuries. I hope I see him pitch in MLB some day.
