The Yankees have reached agreement on a minor-league contract with righty Adam Warren, per Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic (via Twitter). He’ll receive an invitation to MLB camp as a non-roster invitee. It’s a two-year arrangement, MLB.com’s Mark Feinsand notes on Twitter, which recognizes the fact that Warren is returning from Tommy John surgery.
The contract includes a $800K salary in the event that Warren is able to earn his way onto the big league roster. He can also pick up another $700K in incentives based upon appearances. The deal includes an August 28th opt-out clause, Rosenthal adds, which perhaps suggests that Warren is hoping to rehab on a fairly aggressive timetable from his September procedure.
Warren, 32, first cracked the majors with the Yanks and has spent parts of seven seasons in two prior stints in the Bronx. He pitched for the Padres in 2019, struggling to a 5.34 ERA in 28 2/3 innings with 7.8 K/9 and 3.8 BB/9.

adam warren redemption arc?
ColossusOfClout
I knew his time in NY wasn’t done when they traded him (again). He’ll be back in the Bronx, the guy loves pitching in NY.
gleybertorres25
They didn’t trade him again. he was a free agent
toomuchpie
He’s referring to the second time NY traded him (’15 traded to the Cubs and ’18 traded to Seattle).

Yankees are already in st mode signing flukees
Mickey777
Nice depth move. Still desperately need a left handed bat(s).
Ricky Stevens
Yankees did OK last year before Didi came back from the IL, This year they already have Gardner, Tauchman, and Ford in addition to a whole host of righties who hit right handers well on the roster.
.
I’m not convinced there’s truly a pressing need for a lefty bat.
johnnybadd2019
Couldn’t hurt even if it’s a minor league contract
Randia
this is a yankee loyalty signing hes injured but cashman is rewarding a good soldier for years of service. its one of the things they do that brands them as a class organization.
theyve done this alot not only with players but also with executives who have been let go by other organizations
they may be known as the evil empire but but they routinely give those who need a place to regroup professionally a place to do so
Begamin
To be fair, Ford isnt going to receive the majority of AB’s at 1B unless there is an injury, of course. Tauchman and Gardy are the 4th and 5th OFers (with Hicks gone). I think the importance people keep putting on having a evenly balanced lefty/right lineup is a bit overstated but with a fully healthy roster we are talking 3 reserve guys as our left handed hitters. You might see 2 of those 3 playing in the same game semi-regularly but i think it will be more rare to see Tauchman, Gardy, and Ford all in the lineup at the same time (ignoring potentially new injuries).
However, the offense as it is now is already stacked. They posted a .852 OPS against LHP and a .820 OPS against RHP. In my eyes its really not a big deal if the lineup is RH heavy because they still hit well regardless. So, I agree with you that its not very pressing. They could find use in a impact lefty bat for the cherry on top though.
Chris Giarraputo
Your telling me that if Ford has a amazing ST the Yankees will have the starting job to Voit? Voit is in reality a minor league player like Ford. If the Yankees had a better option or extra $ they would replace Voit and Ford in a second for a player who is not a linebacker (Voit) or I’m sorry- fat and out of shape (Ford). I’m having memories of LF for the Yankees until the signed Matsui when every year In the 90’s and through the dynasty years ran so many players out in LF. And still it actually continues minus the Gardner years kind of. If Miggy and Torres’s are starting o Right side I feel they need a slick fielding first baseman as both are young and still not polished with their throws. Isn’t Gittens (sp) a first baseman who won a minor league MVP? Never hear his name brought up even when they have injuries… is he a career minor leaguer type talent? Anyone?
yankees7448
Chris Giarrputo, stop the nonsense. Luke Voit is not a minor league player. He’s a proven major league hitter. Not every Yankees first baseman is Don Mattingly. Stop waxing off on past greatness and appreciate the guys the Yankees have now.
Mickey777
Didi was our most clutch lefty swinger and he’s gone. We’ll probably have to face Houston to get to the World Series again and they still have Verlander and Greinke. Season is not complete for me without a trip to the World Series so I’d feel much better if we had a really good lefty. I agree we need a really good lefty swinger. History shows that Yankee Championship Team’s have clutch lefties or switch hitters(Bernie Williams, Paul O’Neill, Reggie Jackson, Chris Chambliss, Mantle, Maris, Berra, Ruth, Gehrig to name a few) Given that it’s not likely they get a left handed impact bat I hope you are right. Happy Holidays, always enjoyable to talk Yankee Baseball!!
YankeesFan1988
You’re right. Also last time they won a world series in 2009 they had:
Posada S
Matsui L
Texeira S
Swisher S
Damon L
Melky S
Cano L
Gardner L
Hinske L

Stanton/Happ for Hosmer/Myers
Begamin
lmao no way. i hope youre joking
i dont know why people would throw away Stanton for expensive trash just because Stanton himself is expensive
yankees7448
Ewww no. Maybe for Hosmer but not for Hosmer and Myers. What would be the point in trading him for lesser guys if we’re not saving any real money. Hosmer for Stanton. They take on more money but get the better player and the opposite for us.
Begamin
Rather keep Stanton at that point. If he simply stays healthy he will provide way more value than Hosmer. Hosmer doesnt even play a position of need for the Yankees.
yankees7448
I get it. Stanton has more upside. I would do the deal because:
1. I never really liked Stanton
2. We could use a lefty bat. Hosmer and Voit could alternate between first and DH.
3.It would clear up playing time for Clint Frazier rather than have him languish at Triple A.
4. It would save us money that could be better used elsewhere. After this year James Paxton, DJ Lemahieu, and Masahiro Tananka all become free agents and Zach Britton could opt out.
yankees7448
Awesome. He pitches better for us than he does for most teams. s. He’s going to boost his value so we can trade him for assets for a third time lol. Cashman schooling fools again lol
Old User Name
It’s amazing how differently he pitches for other teams. Great zero risk signing by the Yankees.
Ketch
Adam, the Yankees just can’t quit you.
Chun
What about a left handed bat? Since we lost Didi!
vtadave
Yep Opening Day next week!
emac22
Why is losing Didi a reason to go sign a player based on being a lefty?
I can’t imagine going with a lesser player at any position just because he’s a lefty.
Are you leaning towards Bird over Luke?
floridapinstripes
Good signing. If anything it’s a nice back of the bullpen piece. I believe yanks bullpen threw the most innings last year. it’ll be good if they can spread those innings around as much as possible.
jdgoat
He can’t help with that this year
floridapinstripes
Why not. Basically replacing Cortes but more reliable in bigger spots
toomuchpie
Because, as provided in the article, Warren had TJS in September.
floridapinstripes
Thank you. I didn’t realize that initially
ColossusOfClout
Yanks did not throw the most bullpen innings, they were 7th.
yanksallday
Happy to have him back in the fold. As many of the above suggest, he seems to be one of those guys that finds himself when he puts the ‘stripes on.
andrewf
“…in the even…” Should be event instead of even
mattcubs
Welp, hes only good for the Yankees anyway.
Ully
Warren back with the Yankees and Frusciante back with the Chili Peppers, all is well in the world.
walls17
This really is the best day. Frusciante was/is RHCP
YankeesBleacherCreature
So long, Dellin!
timm-2
It’s not really that unusual of a opt out date when you consider there is no longer a waiver trade deadline and with rosters expanding 3 days later. It’ll give him a chance to opt out and maybe catch on with another team if its clear the Yankees won’t want him on the postseason roster.
YoungNastyMan
It’s an aggressive date because that’ll be 11 months after his TJ surgery, when it typically takes around a year for a pitcher to come back.
walls17
He just had TJS, idk how much of a role he’ll have as a non-roster invitee lol
Longboarder
It really bothers me when I read of posters calling these borderline ML players names like “trash” or “flukees” or “failures” etc. The guys that don’t make the ML teams, and struggle at it, are still elite athletes, and professional baseball players. Many have signed huge contracts. It just sounds a little bit like jealousy when someone that posts on this forum calls these exceptional baseball players cheap names. Get a life.!!!

Solid buy low move
bravesfan
Good move… pitches anywhere what he can pitch, he might be a nice piece for them
Eatdust666
Still better than Nestor Cortes Jr., Chance Adams and Stephen Tarpley even after coming off of Tommy John Surgery.

Always liked AdWar

Adam Warren is Bobo to the Yankees C. Montgomery Burns.

Whatever anyone tells you or you believe the Yankees need another Starting Pitcher.
I wish it the Yankees went after Bum I think a change of scenery would have done him good in pinstripes. I honestly believe Bum is going to reinvent himself in Wash. He’s def going to win more then 9 games on the Nats
Cole
Servino
Paxton
Tanaka
I’m not to thrilled about Happ if we would know what’s going to happen or what’s going on with German / Montgomery? But I think the Yankees should not stop there and package Clint and whatever else in there for another front line Starter if they could.
Yes they are better but the could be even more better! Scary better!
For the past two years I see a trade with Cleveland in my head but nothing has ever come of it maybe this year?
fits65
Mrs. Beans says that these past two years you see Gardy with his arm around the wifey.
More better? What does that mean?
