What is a wren?
jorge78
A bird…..
StandUpGuy
A wren is a general manager that makes stupid decisions. I believe the term was coined after Frank Wren. He was the GM of the Baltimore Orioles and spent a lot of the owners money by making stupid decisions based on previous team reliant stats to acquire players and it ruined the Orioles to the point that they never recovered. He did the same for the Braves after Scheurholz moved on by paying guys like BJ Upton, Dan Uggla and Derek Lowe way wore money than they were worth. At the time Wren gave BJ a $75+ million contract he was coming off a .239 batting average season. A “Wren” is a GM that will look at a players RBI’s and Runs scored while idiotically assuming they will be able to replicate all of those productive numbers regardless of what team they play on, what line up they are in or which ballpark they play in. A “Wren” assumes every single RBI or Run Scored ever acquired by a player is the sole result of that player and he will recreate that exact same production every single year regardless of which team he is on.

StandUpGuy
Haha. I actually appreciate that it happened. Nothing is more attractive than imperfections. Especially when those imperfections result in a good laugh.

A cultural reference we all missed?

Minor and Lynn are aces?! Have you seen their peripherals and projections? Cole grew up a Yankees fan not Angels, and already said geography doesn’t matter.
Connor Byrne
I didn’t call them aces, but if you look at their 2019 numbers, they’re front-line types. And Cole has literally said he was an Angels fan as a kid. Here’s the LA Times confirming it: latimes.com/sports/angels/story/2019-08-07/free-ag…
