another chat, another complaint about the Cubs being cheap. good grief…
Jeff Todd
I answered a question about a complaint. I didn’t lodge one of my own. It’s a legitimate viewpoint for fans of the team.
Psychguy
Cubs are not necessarily cheap, ownership is just in bed with the devil.
cubsnomore
Yep
hockeyjohn
Another chat and more lousy proposals for Indians players. They have no reason to trade Clevinger. There is no reason to enter a rebuild.
Pingleja
they could get all kinds of prospects for Clevinger. It’s at least worth asking
hockeyjohn
The Indians won 93 games last year with many injuries. There is no reason to trade Clevinger and his 3 years of control for just prospects. That is giving up and rebuilding. I have followed the Indians since 1965. I am not going through another rebuild. I will quit baseball if that happens.
Joe Kerr
They can get just as much next year and he is cheap and really good which is what they need. As a Sox fan, I would love for them to ship him off but they shouldn’t do it.

And now Jeff says the Indians could trade Carlos Santana and Brad Hand as well?
I missed the memo. When exactly was the fire sale declared?
DTD_ATL
Well, they could trade them. They could decide that they punt for a yr or 2 and get all the good, cheap prospects they can. They don’t spend money so rebuilds will happen more often when they’re good players are due big money.
hockeyjohn
Another chat and more lousy proposals for Indians players. They have no reason to trade Clevinger. There is no reason to enter a rebuild. I am so tired of the big market media and their beliefs that small market teams like Cleveland should roll over and trade for theie their trash.
Psychguy
Well big market LA could offer some combination of Ruiz, Gonsolin/May, Seager, Pederson, et al. It’s about controllable assets. If your Indians cannot afford their top players once they are due a raise, then might as well cash in now rather than let them walk for nothing.
hockeyjohn
Seager 2 years and Pederson 1 year are not controllable assets and can not be the main part in any trade for Lindor, Clevinger, or both. I don’t see the Indians trading Clevinger as he is controllable (3 years). The Dodgers want Lindor. Cleveland wants Lux. Dodgers want Clevinger added which the Indians should not do.
Cleveland won 93 games last year with Lindor missing a month and 3/5 of their starting rotation (the strength of the Indians) missing 2 months or more. They have no reason to trade any player unless they get exactly what they want. I am fine with both players being Indians in 2020. Get to the playoffs and anything can happen.

“Seager 2 years and Pederson 1 year are not controllable assets”

LOL
@ hockeyjohn;
Where do these kids come up with this nonsense?
The Indians are supposed to trade a guy because they supposedly can’t afford his salary, yet they should take on Joc Peterson – a part-time platoon OF that can’t hit lefties, and has a 2020 contract for $8.5m after which he leaves in free agency?
I can’t take much more of this.
hockeyjohn
It is getting hard for me to read twitter or any baseball related site and read all of these constant trade proposals that in no way benefit the Indians. On one site, I had a Dodger fan tell me that I should want Chris Taylor to play short as he is almost as valuable as Lindor. Spring training can’t come soon enough for me.
Vandals Took The Handles
@ hockeyjohn;
It’s early, but right now I believe the Indians win the ALC in 2020 – and possibly by a large margin.
hockeyjohn
Let’s hope so, Vandals, let’s hope so. Just get to the playoffs and anything can happen..

Huh?
The guy has 3 years of control left.
Are you saying that the Cleveland Indians should simply be a farm team for large market MLB teams? That if they develop a few guys that are any good, they should trade them for multiple prospects. Then if one of the prospects is real good, they trade him in 2 -3 years for yet more prospects while holding onto the last batch of prospects that suck so they couldn’t trade them?
Why not start rumors about the Twins trading Berrios, or the Reds trading Castillo, or the Mariners trading Marco Gonzales, or the Rays trading Tyler Glasnow and Blake Snell or the Padres trading Chris Paddack, or the Cardinals trading Dakota Hudson or the Braves trading Mike Soroka? Just think of all the prospects those teams could get! How dumb and stubborn can their front offices be?
Boogaloo
Well the just traded Kluber fir trash

I just love how the guys doing these live chats answer questions about Star Wars or reply to people that insult them, but I have asked the exact same question on the last ten live chats and haven’t gotten it answered. If these live chats are about baseball let’s keep them about baseball, if they are about anything and everything, find a social media outlet to host a live chat instead of a website dedicated to Major League Baseball rumors!
Rant over.
ABCD
What’s your question?
Cat Mando
mildren23, you are in the minority.
Over the last several years the writers have, at least twice, posed the question (in poll form after a complaint such as yours), if the chat should be – baseball, baseball and only baseball or mainly baseball with occasional moments of levity thrown in. Levity has always won out.
Keep in mind that even during an impromptu chat on Christmas day, Mark had over 1,000 questions to sift through. Many questions don’t get answered.
baseballpun
God you people complain a lot.
ChiSoxCity
These chats gets more useless by the day.
DTD_ATL
Kind of like the complaints about them, huh
Vandals Took The Handles
Arenado. Arenado, Arenado.
Gads…..
He’s a 2 year rental costing $70m in salary, and a boatload of players to acquire.
Then in 2022, he can opt out for even more money…..unless he suffers a major injury that assures his production will be going downhill……at which time the team that traded for him is stuck for $164m over the next 5 years.
Sure – teams just lining up ready to trade their best prospects for him.
DTD_ATL
If he opts out, it will be because he wants to play for another team. It’s highly unlikely he get more than 35 mil/yr

According to Spotrac the Cubs had the 3rd highest team 2019 team payroll, and finished in 3rd place in the so-so NLC.
And now they’re “cheap” cause they won’t spend like drunken sailors?
The fans need to send a message with their wallets? Really? Seems like the fans need to camp outside of Theo Epstein’s office.
Does anyone following MLB in the mainstream media have to support themselves, let alone a family? Is there ever a hint of accountability towards their favorite MLB personalities?
Eta34
Baseball fans sure are fun!
