The Dodgers have non-tendered right-handed reliever Yimi Garcia, Ken Gurnick of MLB.com reports. Garcia had been projected to earn $1.1MM in 2020, his second-last season of arbitration eligibility.
In terms of bottom-line results, 2019 was a strong year for Garcia – which is more than you can say for several other Dodgers relievers. The 29-year-old, a past Tommy John surgery patient, logged a 3.61 ERA with 9.53 K/9 and 2.02 BB/9 over 62 1/3 innings, though those numbers came with a minuscule 29.6 percent groundball rate and a 5.19 FIP/4.90 xFIP.
While Garcia’s 2019 output didn’t impress the Dodgers enough to keep him, it was his best full-season showing since 2015. He’ll now head into free agency as a potentially intriguing option for other clubs.

Should have done this 2 weeks ago and put Sheffield on the 40 man.

Agreed

I mean in all honesty if they were in fear that Sheff was going to be picked and stick they would have easily rostered him. García didn’t change that, neither did the other out of options guys that will be cut/traded during ST. Speaks more to how they feel about Sheff.

Wow
RIPprosports
Thank goodness
Dude gave up a solo shot every time he came into pitch
Next Fire Dave Roberts!
DodgerNation
Honestly I don’t understand why everyone wants Roberts’ head so badly. As a lifelong dodgers/baseball fan I’ve watched long enough to know that every manager has to make some tough calls and sometimes they don’t work out. Just be glad we have a team that is winning consistently and doesn’t appear to be changing course any time soon. This is a lot better than loosing and not being anywhere close to a title my friend.

Not everybody just because one person is obsessed.
fox471 Dave
Pretty much every body except Friedman and you and Doug.
BlueSkyLA
Yeah, everybody except those of us who know who hired him and gave him a nice big extension.
cubsfanbudman1908
If you ain’t first, you’re last. Win a WS title and people will love him.

I thought Yimi & Pedro Baez had lifetime contracts
steelehere83
Finally an adios to Yimi Garcia.! Unfortunately, the Dodgers brought back Scott Alexander to be the designated Chris Hatcher/Yimi Garcia bullpen choker for 2020.

You forgot Josh Fields! Adding insult to injury trade the AL ROY for him to the ASTROS! Sigh
1drefordays6
Lame statement bro! Fields was good in LA. He just doesn’t pitch well against Houston’s mvp! (Their cameraman in cf)

Decent reliever had a good season just gives up to much home runs i think the Athletics Should Try Him To Cover Treinen

I wonder if Fraudman will go dumpster diving for another TJ survivor to replace Garcia?
marijuasher
Of course, you go to ASU. That’s everyone’s excuse for being a pathetic tool.
Jeff Zanghi
I’m kind of surprised that there wasn’t a trade market for him… I realize his underlying stats might not have supported his overall ERA but he struck out better than a batter per inning, had a 3.61 ERA and is only 29 years old — idk but to me that sounds like he’s worth the mere $1.1M he was expected to earn in arbitration – if not for the Dodgers you’d think they could get something back for him in trade.
fox471 Dave
I think we have lost perspective: “the mere 1.1M he was expected to earn in arbitration?”

I just didn’t see anything in Garcia that isn’t replaceable. That, and his sliders would either break right into the middle of the plate or start there and not break.
I think the roster spot is better served on a new project. Yimi Garcia had ample opportunity to put it together, and couldn’t.
HalosHeavenJJ
So if they go back to normal baseballs he might be alright?
cubsnomore
Less camera sign stealing too

Naw, too many cement mixer sliders from Garcia. I don’t think the ball was his issue, poor location or lack of movement was the issue.
