Padres Outright Jacob Nix

By Connor Byrne | November 12, 2019 at 12:40am CDT

The Padres have outrighted hurler Jacob Nix to Triple-A El Paso, Jeff Sanders of the San Diego Union-Tribune tweets. The right-handed Nix had been in limbo since the Padres designated him for assignment Nov. 4.

It’s been a difficult several months for Nix, a promising prospect whom injuries and legal issues weighed down this season. While Nix did debut in the majors in 2018, throwing 42 1/3 innings of 7.02 ERA/5.83 FIP ball, he couldn’t improve on that uninspiring production this year because of elbow problems. The 23-year-old ended up combining for 24 1/3 frames among three minor league levels.

When Nix was healthy enough to take the mound in 2019, he was extremely effective, evidenced by his microscopic 1.85 ERA with 10.7 K/9 against 2.2 BB/9. However, an October arrest on criminal trespassing charges represented the latest setback in the former third-round pick’s career. As of now, though, Nix will stay in the San Diego organization and continue trying to work his way back to the majors.

He needs to check into rehab. If you are so drunk you try to crawl in the doggie door at a house that isn’t yours you need help.

That would make him clearing outright waivers less likely

From the team that brought you MattEffing Bush…

When did Padres were owned by Joan Kroc, they fired team staff and announcers for being drunk in public… One of the current owners, Ron Fowler, is a beer distributor, if I recall correctly.

    How times have changed.

He has fallen far from being the innocent victim of the Brady Aiken bungling by the Astros.

Did anything ever come of the doggie-door incident? His side of the story is that he got really drunk and accidentally tried to enter the wrong house. Without any evidence of criminal intent and no one (well… except Nix) getting hurt, he’d have to have a pretty bad lawyer to get hit with any major penalties.

I believe he was fined a hundred bucks.

He’s damn lucky he didn’t get himself shot.

Strangely, there are two locations with identical addresses within 4 miles of each other in Peoria, AZ. Yes, the Uber took them to the wrong address, and yes he did try to enter through a dog door when the place he’s renting doesn’t have one. I can only imagine the state of mind he was in for that string of lapses to happen, so for that I hope that the Padres are taking the proper measures to make sure that he gets his personal life straightened out. I don’t know what charges stuck but it’s a relative slap on the wrist. These guys are lucky they didn’t get hurt, and I’m glad that they can continue with their baseball careers. Hopefully this is a life lesson that helps straighten them out.

His numbers make him look interesting. He moved through the minors pretty fast. Low risk potential for high reward. Im also surprised he cleared and ended up back with SD.
Let’s face it, who doesnt have some stories about being young and stupid? Some or many may involve drinking.
