The big-budget Dodgers have the money to spend on any of the absolute best free agents – right-handers Gerrit Cole and Stephen Strasburg and third baseman Anthony Rendon – and they are indeed considering them, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network. However, the luxury tax-minded team’s going to stay “disciplined” in its pursuit of those three, per Heyman.
There are few need areas on the Dodgers, evidenced by the fact they won a National League-high 106 games in 2019. Although the Dodgers fell in an upset to the eventual World Series-winning Nationals in the NLDS, it’s hard to deny the talent that’s on hand. The Dodgers could do next to nothing this offseason and still look like one of the majors’ premier teams at the outset of next year, but president Andrew Friedman & Co. are nonetheless working to better the roster in an effort to improve LA’s chances of breaking a championship drought that goes back to the 1980s.
That said, adding any of Cole, Strasburg or Rendon would represent a far more expensive pickup than anyone the Friedman-led Dodgers have signed thus far. Since Friedman took over after the 2014 season, the Dodgers have spent $80MM at most on a free agent, having re-signed Kenley Jansen entering 2017. Cole may end up tripling that total, with MLBTR predicting a $256MM guarantee, while Rendon should eclipse $200MM in his own right and Strasburg has a strong chance to approach that amount.
Either Cole or Strasburg would seemingly serve as a capable replacement for Hyun-Jin Ryu, who’s a free agent after what was a near-Cy Young season in 2019. Even with none of those names in the fold, the Dodgers look to be in good shape with Clayton Kershaw, Walker Buehler, Tony Gonsolin, Julio Urias, Kenta Maeda and Dustin May lining up as their top starters for next season. And they’re also doing quite well at third with Justin Turner, though he could move across the diamond if they make a major splash at the hot corner.

Must be a Red Sox fan. Literally why would LA trade two of their top prospects for another outfielder? Clown statement bro, try again!
Vin Scully
The correct word is too. Not to.
Koamalu
Unless you are saying that a trae for Ruiz and Gonsolin would not be Fair to the Red Sox, then you are undervaluing Betts.
The Red Sox will get more for a 1 year rental than the Yankees got for a 3 month rental of Chapman. Start there when you discuss what fair trade value is for a 26 year old player that averaged 8 WAR the last 4 seasons.
The Yankees got Torres, a MLB ready prospect that ranked #17-24 overall, McKinney who started the 2016 season as the #34 prospect, Warren who was a major league reliever, and a lower level prospect.
So Ruiz, the #33 overall prospect, and Gonsolin, who is not in the top 100, may not be enough to get a full season of a 7-8 WAR player.
Its also not filling the Red Sox needs. The Red Sox need an OF and pitching. Verdugo would be a better headliner for a trade for Betts.

bleacherguy714
Pederson would be good trade bait. He would do good in the AL as a DH and maybe get some at bats against lefty’s. It bit the Dodgers in the rear when he had to face lefty during post season and had very little AB’s against them during the season.
larry48
Doesn’t fix third base, maybe move Turner to 1st, Muncy to third, leave Lux at 2Band Seagar at SS. Then sign Cole, Ryu and get closer to help Jansen. Be prepared for other moves/trade if the come along ie Randon, Bettis or other.

Move the Astros to the NL West so it is actually interesting
bluetrue
The Astros are about to be decimated and possible forced change of ownership depending upon the final investigation results. Based on what the MLB as already told us. Executives, scouts, field manager/coaches and likely all of the players KNEW about and PARTICIPATED IN a complex electronic cheating scheme that lasted AT LEAST all of 2017 including the post season. THIS is FAR worse than Rose betting on games or even the 100 year old Black Sox that threw the World Series for $$$ from Gamblers. The Astros have undermined MLB Fan trust and MLB cred. If there is not a LONG LIST of Astros personnel and players who are banned from baseball, the MLB will become no more credible than Pro Wrestling.
mvlastowski
I agree 100%!!!!
pc01
You’re going to be disappointed. The punishment will be real, and deservedly so, but stop with these fairy tales of Pete Rose, Black Sox and ownership changes. Just stop.
fox471 Dave
Agree.
chippahawk
Astros won’t get near the punishment the Braves did and the Astros cheated in many many games in real-time. The Braves players they were wining and dining were half decades away at minimum while many organizations were doing the same.
The Oregonian
I get that it’s bad, but how is it worse than the Black Sox scandal exactly? Can you imagine if THAT happened today?
Dodgethis
It’s not worse, it’s not even close to the same thing. Before everyone goes off the rails, every single team in baseball is “stealing signs”. The Astros got careless and arrogant and got caught. This in no way effects their championship unless we get some crazy new evidence. The people who like to amplify and dramatize everything happening today to be the equivalency of historical events need to stop.
Rallyshirt
@Michael, Ty Cobb was the highest earning baseball player back then. His salary was $20k. Most player earnings were the equivalent of a year’s salary or less working a regular job in America.
This environment created a conspiracy essentially leading to some players making more money, for themselves, if they collude with the gambling institution.
The 1919 White Sox players were banned from baseball as a result of actions which could’ve been avoided if they were either paid more at the time or if policies were in place where punishments were certain to end their careers if caught.
The Astros have brazenly cheated the entire league by using technology to create competitive imbalance on a organizational level. Meaning, like an entire company cheating as opposed to a few employees. Doing this with well compensated or expected players and ruling entities in place that they chose to work around.
jonbluvin
Unless you have proof that other teams are using technology to steal signs, stop with this made up excuse for the Astros. The Red Sox were caught with their watches and they were punished(kind of). There is no proof of other teams doing it. “Someone else does is so it’s ok” is an argument that 10 year olds try to use. It doesn’t work for them, how can you logically try to use it as a adult.
its_happening
Sorry Jon, the excuse works thanks to the steroid epidemic plaguing the entire sport. People got away with it and players entered Cooperstown using it. They weren’t caught. Some have been protected by the media and by “the code”.
Yes, you are correct about proof. Without proof you cannot indict. However, the “someone else does it” excuse is why teams and players go about circumventing the rules and cheating the game in the first place.
delete
@DodgeThis “Everyone drives 10 over the speed limit so it’s no problem that one guy is driving 125 mph”

Except people get banned for life for steroids now, so nice try. There was a warning on electronic cheating just like there was on steroids after the Mitchell Report. Everyone is on notice that electronic cheating results in cracked skulls and that’s exactly what you should expect
its_happening
Everyone that did it got caught? No.
How many lifetime bans have been handed out for steriods?
Has everyone that’s ever cheated the game been caught? I’m sure the answer is no.
The league can be a copycat. Execs and players switch organizations often and will bring intel, info and ideas with them. Humans will stretch things out as far as possible. Much like your speed limit comment.
Nice try.
fox471 Dave
Players and coaches stealing signs by looking for different “tells” is one thing and legitimate. Setting up an electronic system to steal signs is a whole different issue. Someone or many someones are getting fined or , perhaps, fired. But this is not like the Black Sox scandal in 1919.
fox471 Dave
He did not say, “Everyone who did it got caught.”
macstruts
The vast majority of players on PEDs didn’t get caught and I have no doubt there are players in the Hall of Fame who took PEDs.
The difference with the Astros, is the managers, coaches, teams and execs are not protected by the player’s union. As far as player’s punishments, especially lying to investigators, it will be interesting how the players union reacts to their punishment.
Vin Scully
Hey if someone gets away with murder then obviously murder is ok. What a dumb way to approach life.
If it is proven the Astros cheated then everyone participating should be banned for life and their championships taken from them.
Koamalu
We have proof. The Red Sox were penalized for it in 2017 because of a smart watch in the dugout. The same kind of “evidence” you are seeing today about the Astros was seen about the Yankees in 2017 after the Red sox accused them of using a CF camera to steal signs.
The entire system was changed because of it. There are no live feeds allowed inside stadiums anymore. Everything is on an 8 second delay. There are no monitors in or near dugouts. There is no possibility of cheating in real time via video anymore.
bluetrue
😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 😀 If everyone in baseball has been doing what Houston did, the MLB would be handling it behind closed doors…like they do most issues. The MLB has brought this to ALL OF OUR ATTENTION, not some reporter’s investigation skills. THEY ARE TELLING US. The MLB is LABELING this a Big Freaking Deal. YOU sir, are in for a surprise when the heads begin to roll.
bluetrue
Michael: 1) only a few Black Sox took money to throw a WS. The other team won, theirs lost. 2) the Black Sox threw a few post season games. 3)Re-read my post. The Astros themselves, not an outside group, developed and implemented their cheating plan using resources throughout the entire organization AND tried/did expand it to their minor leagues. They are stating, “We are going to work hard to cheat and to spread the cheating throughout our entire organization, integrating it into our standard operating procedures DESPITE the recent MLB actively addressing the steeling of signs. AGAIN: Every Astro knew this was going on. Those of you who think nothing will come from this are naïve.

No way any players get banned. Whomever concocted this idea, and whomever approved its implementation do however need to be punished with a lifetime ban.

This may be the largest exaggeration of all time on this site. Sure, what the Astros did needs a level of discipline given to them, but sign stealing has been around forever, even though they obviously took it way way too far.

wha…doubt if the punishments approach this
larry48
You don’t really believe the Astros found a way to cheat in 2017 regular season and playoff and then just stop do you? The Astros cheated 2017,2018 and 2019. The only reason the Astro lost was great pitching from the Nationals, they couldn’t hit the pitch even when they knew. what was coming.

frankiegxiii
So Verdugo is a bench player now?
larry48
Turner will not play 3rd in 2020 because of lack of defense. Where is Muncy?
BlueSkyLA
That’s a fine assortment of starting pitching options for the regular season. Now, which ones would making a formidable 1-2-3 for a postseason? And what about the bullpen? A third try at a turnaround from Jansen, and a second chance for Kelly not to stink? Is that the plan?
As for the Dodgers committing $200M to anybody, where’s the history to suggest that as being even slightly likely? They’re going to stay “disciplined” and under the CBT, but also sign big-ticket free agents? How is that possible?
kenleyfornia2
I would say the biggest difference is that this year they can sign 1 big ticket free agent AND stay under the luxury tax. That has not been the case before. They don’t care about spending right up to the last cent before the tax as long as they dont cross that border. Thats why this off-season has a chance to be different than the last 5
BlueSkyLA
I hope you are right but it looks like they’d have a hard time making the space under the CBT stretch to include starting and bullpen needs without some trades, and even then. And this is before we talk about whether they need to make some moves on the infield.

Cole will be banned for life. He knew about the loud trash cans. Sincerely, Mo4ever
bluetrue
I’m not sure where they will draw the line. If they ban everyone who KNEW the cheating was going on for all 2017+post season, Every person who even saw the Monitor room in Houston (that would be every person who spent time on the 25 man roster in 2017) and probably most of their minor league system plus all of the scouts and VERY likely the owner would be banned. Although it could be reasonably argued that THAT is what SHOULD happen, I don’t see the MLB being willing to take that big of a hit – neither in personnel nor in publicity. They will go after the planner/coordinator, the scouts, the Execs and Owner, and maybe ban 3-5 hitters…and that guy with the Houston cap on who was carrying around a Vid Camera zooming into Visitor dugouts. But most of the hitters will get fines and suspensions…IMO. I just don’t see the pitchers getting Banned unless they played some active roll in the CHEAT Conspiracy doing something we haven’t been told about as yet….like sitting with the guy watching the monitor, helping decipher the signs.
Dodgethis
You need to come back to reality. You’re overblowing what’s actually happening.

The only chance the red sox would trade betts to the dodgers realistically is getting dustin may back and i dont know if they would include him, dont get me wrong it would include more, just he would be the top guys, but damn, imagine that lineup with betts and bellinger? that be something special

The Dodgers should have never signed AJ Pollock. They would have had more money to potentially allocate. They need another starter via FA or trade. I’d rather have Kershaw as a #3 in the rotation than a #2, Urias won’t pitch as a starter for a full season and both Gonsolin and May will be on an innings limit.

I’ll be eagerly waiting to see what Friedman and company do. They don’t like giving out large contracts so it will be seen if they will sign anyone noteworthy. Pollock was a hard consolation price for Harper.

One starting pitcher, the rest of the focus on the bullpen. Grab a bat if-needed at the deadline.
Dodgers lineup is loaded and can improve depending on the growth (and health) of Verdugo, Lux and the backstop duo. Would also explore dealing Pederson for bullpen help and maybe grabbing a RH backup OF in-case Verdugo struggles against lefties (which he hasn’t).

Holy Cow!!! There are teams interested in the top free agents? No way!!! Not just any team… but one of the most successful and top payroll teams in the league. I never thought they’d be interested in top talent… I figured they’d be trying to rehab tulo or something. Next thing you know we are going to see an article about teams interested in the next level of free agents.
Talk about the scoop of the century.
rxbrgr
I’ll believe when I see it
alanofla
Unless the Dodgers find trade partners for Pederson and perhaps Seager, I don’t see them signing any free agents, let alone the high-priced ones. I think they may try to get Lindor from Cleveland, but not if May or Lux have to be dealt, so I don’t expect that trade to happen either.
Principal owner Mark Walter swears that he is not reining in spending to avoid any luxury tax, but actions speak louder than words. Stan Kasten has said at least a few times that the Dodgers value their own home grown talent more than anything else. He believes the fans agree. Friedman has shown a proclivity to find reclamation projects. Since it’s worked with Turner (found when Coletti was GM), Taylor, and Muncy, and to a degree with a couple of relievers who did well enough to get signed away by other teams, I expect he’s going to keep at it.
The Dodgers have close to four million fans attend games each year, an insane TV deal which brings in hundreds of millions of dollars every year, sell tens of millions of dollars worth of merchandise each and every year, and play in a division where outside of 2018, they have had a relatively easy time of winning the title since 2013. The next three to five years, at least, appear to be more of the same. They only have to do so much to keep this going, and Stan Kasten knows it.
Kasten ran the Braves when they won 14 straight divisions and one World Series. He seems to like and trust this formula. Despite what Walter may say, Kasten is captaining the ship. This is why Kasten rarely gives interviews any longer. He can’t sufficiently explain to the overly loyal fanbase why getting to the plsyoffs every years is simply good enough. What more can Dodger fans ask for or expect when so many other teams don’t even make the playoff for years, right?
How many other teams have the local support the Dodgers enjoy? How many other teams can get away with freezing out over 60% of its TV audience? How many other fanbases would continue to put up with celebrating ad nauseum the last World Series Championship. Why did Guggenheim pry Orel Hershiser away from ESPN? Tommy Lasorda is in his 90’s, and soon it will be up to Hershiser to be the daily face of 1988.
To be fair, Guggenheim has poured hundreds of millions into the Stadium and to being good enough to keep the NL Western Division safely within reach. There are many here and elsewhere who blame Dave Roberts or Andrew Friedman for the Dodgers losing in the playoffs and World Series the past seven years. Besides the pitching screwups and the lack of hitting by some key personnel at inopportune moments, ultimately, I have come to the conclusion that it is all on Stan Kasten.
Getting to the playoffs is the goal. What may happen after that is like frosting on the cake. To expect any more than that is to be greedy. Never mind that prices to keep this all going continues to rise every season. Never mind that TV contract. One of these years, Dodger fans will see, it will be the Dodgers’ turn to win the World Series again. It’s not officially tanking, but believe it or not, in a way, it is.
Senioreditor
You know the Dodgers well. They’ll win it one year but not when expected, just like 1988. There’s no way they sign any 200 million dollar free agent because there’s no reason to, they win already and there’s no real pressure to go above and beyond.
alanofla
Thank you. I have been a fan since 1971. The past few off seasons have taught me what is normal for the current Dodger ownership. Agents and some reporters like to float these stories to try to help their clients and to get clicks. There is really nothing to see here. What will be, will be. Temper expectations Dodger fans and you will not be disappointed. Just keep those turnstiles hummin’…
BlueSkyLA
Well said. I agree with just about everything here. The plan obviously is to be good enough to win the division (where for the time being at least nobody is putting up much of a challenge), and then hope to get lucky in the postseason. Rinse, repeat. The plan comes from upper management with the approval of ownership, and we know this to be true because nobody has lost their jobs over the postseason failures, and in fact they have been rewarded with nice, big contract extensions. It’s no wonder that Kasten is mister invisible because whenever he turns up he says something that only confirms the worst fears of fans. Last time he showed his face he boasted about ticket sales, which to him validates what a great job he is doing. He also had a very difficult time explaining why they are avoiding paying the CBT with such a religious fervor. He was evasive and obviously even annoyed by the question. Thanks, Stan. We love you.
If Kasten (and Friedman) made themselves more accessible to fans they might come to understand the process of undermining that to me seems to be in full swing. Start with the TV blackout now going into its fifth year (about half of the audience). I don’t see where the Dodgers can do much about that now but it’s still a fact of life if they are concerned about the longterm viability of the Dodgers brand. Second is the general mood in the stadium these days. When your team is being booed at home it’s time to consider whether the fans who are showing up are showing up happy and expecting great things. Fans are no different than any other customer. They’ll stick with you for awhile, but if they continue to be made unhappy, at some point they stop buying the product. If Kasten would look beyond the numbers and stopped congratulating himself, and yes, turned up at Dodger Stadium once in awhile he might see that.
BTW, Tommy still attends nearly every game. He is our last connection to the passionate winning Dodger tradition. Not the corporate one we have now.
alanofla
Thank you. I see your posts here whenever there is a Dodgers story, so I know you understand as well what is going on here. You are absolutely right about the owners being shortsighted about the upcoming collapse of the Dodger fan base. The longer the TV blackout lasts, the worse the problem will one day be. They have the longtime fans; so much so, that people like me deal with the infuriating Spectrum/Time Warner Cable company just to have the Dodgers channel. But I live in an area with that awful choice. Most in the L.A. area do not. Now, Frontier has dropped Spectrum’s Lakers channel. When will the L.A. City Council step in and threaten to revoke’s Spectrum local cable contract? The answer is never. Nothing will be done, and sometime in the future, when these ridiculous contracts finally expire, what will be left of the Dodgers and perhaps now Lakers fanbase?
Kasten has cloistered himself in an ivory tower of his own making. He might not even be around to see what damage he has brough to the brand. Even worse, he probably doesn’t even care.
BlueSkyLA
The mistake made by the Dodgers was in selling their media rights instead of creating a team-owned network. That would have required a major capital investment but it would have paid off in the long run. They went for the immediate cash hit instead. It’s probably impossible to fix that now.
It’s kind of inevitable that baseball is trending more corporate but even during the darkest days of the McCourt bankruptcy and half-empty stadiums the Dodgers were still on TV and Vin Scully was still calling the games. Dodgers fans had that much to hang on to. What now?
The source of any team’s business is fan loyalty. I don’t know that this ownership gets that. If they did they’d be bending over backwards to mitigate the broadcast catastrophe. Don’t get me wrong, they’ve done a lot of good things, a lot of necessary things, but a lot is left undone that should be done and a lot is said that should never be said. They’ve also priced a lot of longtime fans out of the stadium.
This may be my last year of forking out for increasingly expensive season tickets and trundling down to Dodger Stadium for a bunch of games when the results of the season seems foretold. If I feel that way probably lots of others do to.
alanofla
I agree with what you have stated. A lot of people are being priced-out whether Kasten wants to see or admit it or not. I know that I already have to spend close to $2,700 per year for Spectrum/Time Warner Cable TV/internet/phone, and still have to deal with the horrible customer service where every employee hides behind “I can’t change the system (computer)” when something goes wrong. You see, at Spectrum, the computers have already taken over the world. Humans must do as the computers tell them.
I’m down to fewer than five to 10 games in person per year. I can’t justify the expense with the cost of the cable bill. Try to disconnect when it’s the off season, like now, and when you want to return, the $2,700 becomes more like $3,100.
This is one of the several reasons why I find it so galling that the Dodgers will not seemingly cross that luxury tax line to finally get the players the team really needs to win it all. I know they dodged a bullet with Vazquez. Who knew? However, if they really want Lindor, they need to get the Indians to add Hand to the trade, and then include at least one of their prized prospects in the deal if that’s what it takes to get them both.
Yes, Alvarez on the Astros might hurt, since all the Dodgers got was Josh Fields for him, but sometimes that happens. Just like when you play to only get to the playoffs to see what happens, you just might miss winning the World Series for the past seven years–not to mention the 24 years before that.
The Dodgers have the money and prospects. They have to have the will to get it done. Fans will always understand if it doesn’t work out as long we know the team did everything it possibly could to make it happen.
BlueSkyLA
True story. A lot of the proposed trades we hear in these discussion have the Dodgers giving up players who are key to the team’s current roster (Bellinger, Seagar) or who are right on the doorstep (Verdugo, May, Lux). I don’t see where they give up any of these players for any deal that is less than stunning. I mean, the team has to get better. That’s the point of trading, and the Dodgers have quite a few attractive prospects just below that level who could be moved for the right deal and would help a team that is a year or two away from being competitive.
hockeyjohn
You won’t likely get Lindor without Lux or May being involved.
alanofla
I agree. Again, I don’t think the Dodgers will trade either May or Lux for anybody. If the Indians won’t be satisfied with some combination of Verdugo, Pederson, Seager, Ruiz, Downs, Sheffield, and one or two other highly-touted minor leaguers, I don’t see it either.
hockeyjohn
If Cleveland decides to trade Lindor, it means that they were overwhelmed by an offer. The deal would have to bring young controllable MLB players back. Seager and Pederson are not those type of pieces. Cleveland’s catcher, Roberto Perez, just won the AL Gold Glove and was the Wilson Defensive player of the year. I can’t see Ruiz being the main piece in a deal as well.
What we would have is two strong teams both wanting the better pieces from the other team, Which team might blink first. If the past holds true again, the Cleveland front office will not blink. They are known for setting their price, and not deviating from it, We will see what happens.

Well, duh.

For sure think the dodgers will get none of these guys at all. Then go to the deadline having to trade great prospects because they didn’t pay them now. Just not Friedman’s way. Weak NL west will allow the dodgers to get to the playoffs again. But Walker will be the only playoff worthy starter and they will be out in the best of 5. The rotation as of now is maybe the 5th best rotation in the NL.
mcdusty49
Trade Joc and line up with Bellinger, Pollock, Verdugo/Taylor in the outfield…leave the 3B market alone and give JT one more season at the hot corner with Seager at SS, Lux at 2B and Muncy at 1B…sign Strasburg to a high AAV deal and fortify the bullpen…like really fortify it…maybe even see what you can get for Maeda and Gonsolin and have a rotation of Beuhler/Strasburg/Kershaw/May/Urias…a full season of Will Smith begins the dish with Barney as his backup…Keibert is blocked long term so use him to dangle with others in a deal to fortify weaknesses at the deadline…best plan
AGAVE
Sort agree w mcDusty here.
I prefer Bellinger at 1’st permanently and slide MM over to 2’nd.
Both could move in & out of 1’st base; as needed.
JP & Seager removes future $$ guarantees that AF would look to get younger and cheaper contracts for the next few years.
I keep wondering if SS considers us.
Padres offer him an interesting place to finish his career at.
Our FO will have the Tax agreement involved within every move.
Angelzero
Why would you want to trade joc? Joc has been the only reliable bat in the postseason. Seager and bellinger in the last couple of postseasons have done nothing. Package seager and pollock with another player or prospect for lindor who is an upgrade over seager. I would seriously consider trading bellinger for top pitching but likely won’t happen. So that would leave joc, verdugo, and bellinger in the starting outfield.
Vin Scully
You would trade the MVP who is young for a pitcher? You have a screw loose.
Angelzero
Yeah a few loose but consider this: Bellinger is a regular season MVP but silent in every postseason that he has been in. Is not winning a title mean more than having a MVP player? Would you not trade that MVP player for someone that could have some value in the postseason when it really matters?
alanofla
You might never see the postseason without Bellinger.
mcdusty49
Bellinger doesn’t go anywhere

It cost money to live in California
Any top free agent will want min $250 Million
Now the Dodgers could swing a major deal with the Cubs to fill in their gaps.
Bryant & Lester for prospects.

Interesting take on the sunshine take. The middle class is getting crushed no matter where you live these days though. If you can find a state/city/county that is both desirable and affordable to live, give it time—home prices and taxes will rise there too.

Now is the time to trade Kershaw for an absolute haul and use that money to sign a Cole or Strasburg, or use those resources somewhere else and make it Bueller’s team. You’re not gonna run Kershaw out there in the playoffs AGAIN, are you? How long until he;s boo’ed off the field? His confidence has to be steamrolled at this point.

Why Cole would want to waste his career with the Angels…. The Dodgers would be a perfect fit for him. A winning organization that has a direction.

interesting scenario you had with jon lester, but i dont see him as a tremendous pitcher anymore, and trust me im in boston, i LOVED lester, i was even fortunate enough to see him in person several times, if the dodgers will get a star player its mookie, you can see his smile and gold chain running the bases with the California sun on him, it makes to much sense for it not to happen, unless the dodgers just go with a rotation piece, like Cole. I wouldnt be shocked if they somehow put a mega package together and got BOTH mookie and david price, that will fill 2 needs and severely help with our plan to cut payroll and get rid of some players
Amanda2019
plus david price is the walking living proof of a California laid back type player, bostons chewing him up and he HATES it here, think of him as the Adrian Gonzalez, same situation 100%, good player, does NOT want to be in boston

LA has to decide, what’s more important- staying under the luxury tax, or winning a WS. They have a great regular season team, but lack a postseason ace and a dominant postseason bat. Unless you fill one or both of these needs, 2020 will be the same old story.

Could there be another monster trade between Boston & LA? Something where Betts & David Price go to LA for Pederson, Pollock, Muncy & a prospect? Not sure how salaries match up here, but LA would need to take on more salary for this to make any sense.
Sox in turn, flip JBJ to another team for a reliever.

Cole: Dodgers
Stras: Padres
Rendon: Phils

Breaking News!!!: Every team in MLB is interested in the top FA’s! Some have the $$$ and some don’t.

However, the luxury tax-minded team’s going to stay “disciplined” in its pursuit of those three = The Dodgers will not sign any of the three.

What’s up with all this talk about turner going to 1B? If that happened, what would happen to Muncy? already have lux developing at 2B, so cant put Muncy there. Whatever moves the dodgers make, getting one of these free agent starters would be nice but need to find a replacement for Jansen as closer is probably the most crucial.

I’m sure to get crap for this but…
it appears that when I read the comments in the Dodger’s section…
they seem much more petty and name calling then other team’s comment sections
Just saying….
