The Cardinals announced today that they have outrighted catcher Joe Hudson off of their 40-man roster. His roster spot was needed with several players being reinstated following 60-day injured list stints.
Hudson, 28, is a former sixth-round pick who has seen very brief MLB action in each of the past two campaigns. He owns a modest .249/.323/.411 slash line over 383 plate appearances at Triple-A since the start of 2018. As is often the case with offensively limited backstops of this ilk, Hudson is primarily valued for his sturdy glovework behind the plate.

I don’t know why the Cardinals felt they needed to purchase his contract to add him to the September roster just because Weiters was out for a little while. They had Molina and Knizner, and two catchers is good enough for the first 5 months, so they could’ve easily made due with the same for the first week of September. Now thanks to that short-sided move, they may lose a decent organizational depth piece. Although, it is likely that no one will claim him, but it was still an unreasonable risk to take.

He is unnecessary and replaceable

This is probably the Cardinal the Angels should have snagged today. We have lots of fire ballers with no control but no catching.

The Cardinals need to get the front office in order , make good baseball moves and spend some money for quality players not aquire a player because you lost one to an other team and pick up the guy that your guy replaced . Make any sense ? Simply , Fowler isn’t the answer to anything , for sure and for certain !!!!!!!!
