I think Madison Bumgarner would like to continue hitting for an NL team.
AlvaroEspinoza 2
Would have liked to see Ohtani pitching and hitting third for an NL team…has he been an SP in an NL park yet?
truthlemonade
Ohtani has not started in an NL park. He has only had ten starts as a pitcher, which surprises me. Can the Angels refuse to use the DH when Ohtani is pitching?
Cat Mando
truthlemonade…..
Yes they can refuse….any team can but then they are without a DH the whole game. Ohtani prefers not to hit while pitching so he can concentrate just on pitching.
bballblk
Yes, if they wanted to. The Giants let Bumgarner hit at Oakland a couple of seasons ago. However, the Angels haven’t usually let Ohtani hit even the day before or after he pitches, let alone the day of.
Cat Mando
The Angels have followed the same type of schedule Ohtani used in Japan as closely as possible. Except for travel days and unforeseen happenings Ohtani hits Tues-Fri,. off Sat., pitches Sun., off Monday.
The other thing to consider when letting a pitcher hit in the AL is if the pitcher gets shelled and pulled early in a game they are with a DH that whole game.
Strike Four
Anyone know any other times a pitcher has hit somewhere other than 8th or 9th? When Ohtani plays in an NL park he could hit cleanup too, can’t remember a time an SP hit high up in the order…
Bill the Cat
I remember Rick Rhoden of the Pirates in the 80s batting 7th a few times. Can’t think of anyone else off the top of my head. Probably have to go back to the pre-DH days.
uncle mike
How about a guy named Babe Ruth??
He was a Great pitcher for Boston!! He hit so well, he became a household name, to this day as a hitter. Of course he gave up pitching along the way. LOL
Lance
as a STL fan, I like the idea of getting Hamels as a 2-3 starter. I’m not sold on Carlos as the closer. Getting Hamels and Will Smith would really plus some holes.
uncle mike
As another St. Louis fan, I agree with you about Carlos Martinez!! Since his first injury, you never know which C. Martinez is stepping on the mound. The focused, or the unfocused. I believe a change in scenery would benefit Carlos in that respect.

It’s Cole or bust for the angels imo, there is no other team in the league right now that needs an ace more then the angels, I think they offer 6-7 years 225-230 million , maybe the max 235
Steven Chinwood
The Yankees need an ace so much more than any team in MLB. 3 years in a row great regular seasons, and then ousted in the playoffs. That shouldn’t cut it in NY for real fans.
pasha2k
And why do you think they deserve a starter more than any other team first?
Steven Chinwood
Didn’t use the word “deserve” bro, I used the word “need”.

I’ll see you in Hell, William Munny.
Philliesfan4life
I don’t think Cashman will go to that length of a contract for Cole though, my guess they will end up with Wheeler or Odorizzi , then maybe another trade.
Steven Chinwood
He better or the villagers are gonna storm the gates.
Philliesfan4life
I don’t think he’s going too, He didn’t last year for Corbin. The max i think he would go is 5 years 200 mill, and Cole knows he will get more then that.
MoRivera 1999
He’s not going to do it. Hal is not George. They don’t go in for a “win at all costs” mindset. So they lose.

@angelsfan4life412
If it’s not Cole., Stras or Bum I don’t see it happening at all. Maybe Wheeler but he’s not really a #1 but would be better than Tanaka, Happ, German and Montgomery.
Strike Four
I would argue the Padres are right there, and both the Angels and Padres turn into massive contenders if they shell out for both Cole and Strasburg.
Steven Chinwood
Dude the Angels finished 35 games back, with the A’s improving. Plus the Astros aren’t going anywhere, and the Rangers are gonna spend big. The Yankees, Red Sox, Rays, Twins, and Indians will be far superior. Bottom line to compete the Angels need way more than just Cole.
Philliesfan4life
If they can add Cole and maybe Bumgarner or Odorizzi maybe make a trade, let Calhoun walk , they got money.
Strike Four
They are definitely a team where money does not seem to be an issue. They could spend $500M on Cole and Strasburg and not blink an eye.
Steven Chinwood
Keep on living in the land of make believe, and let the rest of us talk baseball. You’re hilarious though..hahaha

So who’s your team, self-proclaimed stable genius? Let me know so I can see where your fantasy island is located. Pretty sure you won’t provide a team name. Come on, expose yourself….on second thought, keep your pants on.

@padreshave32yrstobestdodger1stwswin
I think he’s a Yankee fan but so what? He’s not the GM. Not sure why ppl act as if a fan of team “A” can’t have a conversation about team “B” without people assuming they approve of what their own team has done.
thegreatcerealfamine
What does it matter? I’m pretty sure he’s a Yankees fan based on the first posts. I like the way other people seem to know about Yankees intentions, but get bent when someone questions their team.
Ace of Diamonds
They could sign Cole or Strasburg, and Wheeler, or Odorizzi to go along with Ohtani, a healthy Heaney, Canning, Sandoval. With Cole and Wheeler added to their rotation they will be a true contender next season. Upton was injured most of last season, so with a healthy Justin in LF, Trout in CF and their prized rookie Adell in RF in a month or two after opening and a healthy La Stella at 3B and GG finalist Fletcher at 2B they will have a solid offense to go along with their hopefully greatly improved rotation.
padreshave32yrstobestdodger1stwswin
Got that right! We also still need either Matt Olson or Josh Bell at 1B and an OF like Betts. Heard team has $16 million of dead money coming off the books in 2020.
thegreatcerealfamine
What are you talking about?
Melchez
Pirates wont give up bell and A’s wont trade olson. Padres might be able to get smith from the mets and maybe get Betts. That would be a nice. But then you have to find someone to take Myers and Hosmer.
joeseadog
Cole’s agent will look for 7 years, 250 million to make him highest paid per year, largest contract ever.No team should offer more than 3 years, 100 million. 4 years for ANY pitcher is risky and stupid.
Melchez
Yankees need cole and Baumgartner. Could you imagine the post season with those two on your staff? Dump happ and a couple surplus players for some left handed hitting and they would walk through the post season and have people talking about a dynasty.
