The White Sox announced today that they have selected the contract of infielder Danny Mendick. He’ll be joined on the active roster by a trio of other September call-ups: righty Dylan Covey, catcher Zack Collins, and outfielder Daniel Palka.
Mendick is a 25-year-old who is capable of playing short, second, or third base. He just wrapped up his first full season at the Triple-A level, where he slashed .279/.368/.444 with 17 home runs. That’s not quite the big season it might appear to be at first glance, but it does equate to a sturdy 109 wRC+.

And the best rookie name of 2019 goes to…

Covey a callup? With a 6.27 ERA and 6-28 record??
markhawk17
Covey has been awful. Enough!

Just up to keep from having to pull a kid up.

What exactly do they see in Covey…
Thomas Bliss
Someone trying to eat inning and be able to use him like Detwiler in the rotation and bullpen.

Rule 5 guy a few years ago that they just can’t let go

Richard Lovelady and Danny Mendick walk into a bar…
Idioms for Idiots
I’m not surprised to see Robert not on the list of call-ups. Trust me, I would’ve loved to see see him come up, and he definitely deserves it, but if they were going to call him up, they would’ve done it a few weeks ago.
I’d bet he gets a contract just like Eloy and will be up Opening Day. Madrigal might also, but out of those two, Madrigal’s the more likely to get shafted by the time service manipulation. And if Hahn can’t get an Opening Day contract for Madrigal, he would be an idiot not to keep him down until the end of April to get that extra year. Again, I don’t see this being an issue for Robert (and if we’re lucky, both guys).
I’m really curious on how Collins does in Sept. He’s been a different hitter since getting sent back down. I’m curious to see if he can bring that success to Chicago the last 25 games.
As for Mendick, I really hope they play him every day. It would be a waste to bring him up if they’re going to play him twice a week the rest of the year. It’s not like they have anything left to play for.
Dogbone
Collins is a joke. He’ll be gone by 2021.
Megatron2005
And you’ve based this off of 26 at bats? Great insight.
ChiSoxCity
Same dumb comments you made about Moncada and Anderson. Keep up the good work.

I figured that Mendick would get the start tonight over Sanchez but I guess with Palka batting 7th and Collins 9th they didn’t want 3 straight young guys hitting in a row
Tom Healey
Palka is almost 28, so I might describe him as inexperienced, but not young.
Superbear29
Palka needs to go. My grandma can hit the ball more often and shes dead.

I mean, does it matter how many young guys are in the lineup?
There is no use in calling up Mendick and Collins if you don’t plan on playing them every day.
Why Palka is back is beyond me. He pretty much duplicates Collins, and offers nothing in the field.
Mercedes could have at least batted against lefties.

Setup perfectly for next season’s 26 man roster. We have a lot of talent, and it looks like they’re all getting ready at the same time. Roster moves next season will give guys rest instead of battling through slumps. We just have too many good players.
Feels good, man.

Is this you, Rick Hahn?

Richard was looking for a Lovelady but to his surprise, was greeted by Danny and a Mendick….ha!
(Slow day at the office.)
