Veteran coach and long-time big leaguer Tim Wallach will step away from the Marlins at the end of the season, according to Jon Heyman of MLB Network (Twitter links). Wallach has served as the bench coach in Miami since the 2016 season.
Though the Marlins decided to retain skipper Don Mattingly, they’ll be on the look for a new second in command in the dugout. The split is entirely amicable, it seems. Per Heyman, Wallach would simply like to live nearer to his extended family.
Wallach is said to be willing to continue his coaching career elsewhere if it puts him closer to his native California. He had spent his prior coaching career with the Dodgers organization.

Wow, his son is still in the organization.

Maybe Jeter will decide to go without a bench coach and pocket the money.

New Giants manager is my bet.
dodger57
Or Padres.
hiflew
He has the former relationship with Zaidi with the Dodgers. That was my thought.

No way on earth any team hires him to be a manager. Padres are big game hunting, not dumpster diving
hiflew
That’s true. The Padres prefer to take something fresh and THEN turn it into garbage.

Really calling him names! He is a human being no need to be ruthless and hateful!
DarkSide830
no one is calling him anything. the point is that he is not seen as a very good managerial candidate.
amk3510
Good thing I didn’t call him a name

So a former minor league manager of the year with 15 years of experience managing and coaching is dumpster diving? I’m going to bet one of the teams with a manager vacancy isn’t going to agree with that analysis.
amk3510
Dumpster diving means the contract he would get if he were to manage, not who he is as a coach. I specifically said the Padres in that instance because they are going to be a rare case of a team actually wanting to pay a manager big bucks in 2019 to get a bigger name.
BlueSkyLA
You still lost me with that explanation. Wallach will get another job. In fact I suspect he left the Marlins because he is now blocked from managing the Marlins and knows a lot of other teams are going to be looking. He’ll get lots of interviews.
amk3510
Another job as a bench coach sure. Manager? Very little chance. He has been a coach for a long time and hasn’t got a major league gig yet? How is that going to change now that he is 62 and the old school is getting less and less work. Nothing against the man and good for him if he gets to be a skipper somehwere, but the chances of it are slim
BlueSkyLA
I don’t know anything about his school but I am willing to make a virtual bet that he ends up managing somewhere.
mcdusty49
Just because he’s been the bench coach of a dumpster fire doesn’t mean he doesn’t have managerial qualities that could play well with a better quality product…you can’t always take everything for face value there are certain details that go into these types of decisions

The puds should be so lucky.
Best wishes to Eli!

No
Why would they want a trash can.
sheff86
Wow. He’s a human being people.
DarkSide830
hope for every Marlins fan that means Chad is gone too.

Tyler Heineman might be a better option as a backup catcher

Tim Wallach is a former Golden Spike winner out of Cal State Fullerton (go Titans). Very good MLB player and an excellent coach. Just a few years ago, he was high sought after. You all who are referring to dumpster diving are uninformed, non educated and completely have no grasp of the facts. Best of luck Tim Wallach. His son Chad a Wallach was also a stud player at Cal State Fullerton and definitely has the ability to play in the MLB. Great genes in that family.

Known Eli since our teen age years. Pitched against him both college and big leagues. In addition to his great talent, man of integrity and strong student of the game. Would be great MLB manager. Humble leader that we need more of. Would never violate the integrity of the game he loves. Know his family too. Apples did not fall far from the tree!
