The Tigers have claimed outfielder Troy Stokes Jr. off waivers from the Brewers, per a club announcement. To create 40-man space, the Detroit organization released lefty Ryan Carpenter.
Stokes has at times been considered a solid prospect, but lost his 40-man spot recently. He has managed only a .233/.341/.385 batting line this year in 381 plate appearances at Triple-A.
Carpenter, who just turned 29, has been on the injured list but obviously wasn’t in the Tigers’ future plans. He has struggled to an 8.57 ERA in 63 career MLB frames.
Garbage in garbage out.
Lol! No other comments needed! Well played tigerfan4ever
on the contrary, Carpenter is pretty terrible, but Stokes could at least develop into serviceable 4th OF.
Plus he’s still young and seems promising. Definitely could see him making the tigers roster come 2020
he’s almost 30!!
23 man, 23. Re-read the article then re-read the comments.
you are correct..oops! lol
Damn one slot away from Baltimore. Figured someone left in the organization has to be familiar w the old Baltimore prep star. But Detroit is a good spot for him to break in. Obviously I’ll be rooting for him.
Sometimes it just takes a different place or different coach he kinda reminds me of Troy OLeary
Is it more than his first name that reminds you of him?
Wtf David stearns is not afraid to trim the fat. Guys that have talent but struggle a bit…byeeeee
We know Carpenter is not a major league pitcher. Stokes? Well, guess we’ll find out if there is something worthwhile in this young OF. Nothing wrong in taking a flier on him at this time of the year.
tigers are in tank mode. they are not interested in pay role or talent. look how many people they passed on this season.
I like this move. I can see him as a solid left fielder. He’ll be better than Christin Stewart out there, who I foresee moving to first base.
I foresee Stewart DFA.
not this soon..heck we’d have to DFA half to 3/4 the whole line up! hopefully we get couple those kids on the farm to become so damage bats
that’s a solid idea.
guess we can all hope he can realize his potinal and do a Jose Reyes who’s breaking out, just took a lil time.
Watched Troy a lot in San Antonio this year. Not consistent at all. Can’t see him as anything else but a good AA or fair AAA OF.
