the fact that $50 million even needs to be mentioned in arbitration just proves how broken it is.
Gopher
You realize that’s total money through the years of arbitration right?
DarkSide830
my bad there. i read the one comment as $50 million is one year, as if the commenter was comparing Betts’s likely arb salery in 2020.
SecsSeksSecks
I didn’t see him bring up anything about an arbitration eligible player making $50 million. I could b wrong but you might be confused. I think he said Betts could make $30 mill in arbitration and Rendon would make $50 mill on a one year deal. Tendon is not arbitration eligible. He is a complete free agent that can sign with any team willing to give up the draft compensation after he turns down his 1 year $17.9 million qualifying offer. The point was that he is never going to sign a one year deal anyway and if some team were to convince him to do so that is likely what it would take. $50 mill per year is incredible but $50 mill guaranteed is not nearly as great as $210 million guaranteed.
DarkSide830
i was speaking to the Betts vs Judge comment. i read it as $50 million could be his ending arb salery, not overall arb earnings.

i dont see how no one understands the point. Colome is ALWAYS pitching to an ERA well under his FIP. again, at some point it doesnt matter what his ERA SHOULD be if its a good bet he outpreforms it regardless.
jorge78
Yes, some players do that!
jbigz12
I mean no. That’s just not factual. He absolutely will not maintain a 2.5 ERA w his peripherals. We’ve already seen his ERA spike to 3.38 after the break. For one reason or another he also has 7 unearned runs on his tab this year. Your statement gives off the sense that you just don’t fully understand the advanced metrics. He’s never been able to sustain a .199 BABIP. He’s also averaging over 6 walks per 9 after the break. He’s consistently outpiched his FIP as a reliever but not even in the ballpark of where he is now. Nor did his underlying stats ever look this poor.
Some guys can bend and not break and a FIP or xFIP will underestimate what bottom line results they put up but Colome absolutely will not sustain this level of success while pitching like he is.
We saw Shane Greene’s numbers even out in Atlanta. And if Colome continues to throw the ball the way he has been, he won’t sustain his performance either.
SecsSeksSecks
I see Darksides point. Julio Teheran is the same way. Always outperforms his peripherals. However the main point is that Colome’s peripherals are going in the wrong direction. Apperantly his peripherals are significantly worse than they have been in the past. That would point to a combination of timely defense and luck. If he were to continue allowing this many walks and balls in play on a team that had a different defense he would likely not be bailed out so often.

Oh but outinleftfield and George B. said that other teams would trade for Hosmer when the contract was signed so it must be true!
Strike Four
Fact: no one cares about calling people out on hindsight opinions.
Show Me Your Tatis
Not hindsight when the Padres bought him at peak value and all the concerns that would deter teams from trading for him at this point were still present then.
Strike Four
Cole to Dodgers or Angels
Strasburg to Padres
Book it now.
Show Me Your Tatis
Strasburg isn’t opting out.
Banesays
Strike Four, in my OPINION, I think that Stras is going to opt out, and when the Yankees lose out on Cole, go to the Bronx.
Show Me Your Tatis
People keep saying the Nats don’t want to be on the hook for his remaining 4 years. All of the reasons why they wouldn’t want to be on the hook for those years are reasons why he wouldn’t opt out.
