Wrapping up minor league moves from around the game…
- The Pirates outrighted Rookie Davis off their 40-man roster, as per John Dreker of Pirates Prospects. The move was made to clear 40-man space for the Bucs’ upcoming September promotions, which Dreker says will take place after Triple-A Indianapolis finishes its season on Monday. Davis will remain at Triple-A, where he has spent most of the season apart from a five-game stint on Pittsburgh’s MLB roster in May and June. Davis has a 5.64 ERA, 1.82 K/BB rate, and 6.8 K/9 over 52 2/3 IP for Indianapolis, though his season has been abbreviated by a 60-day IL stint due to forearm and hand issues. Perhaps best known for being part of the four-prospect package sent from the Yankees to the Reds in the original Aroldis Chapman trade in 2015, Davis has an 8.05 ERA over 34 2/3 Major League innings.

John has some great coverage on the Pirates. Nice mention.

One of many pitchers that need to be removed from the 40 man roster

I don’t see anyone complaining about the Reds GM for the lack of return for when they traded Aroldis Chapman…..
Yet fans still hate the Gerritt Cole trade even though the Pirates received 2-3 solid major leaguers in return

Many posters are just plain negative. They seem to be the more talkative ones.
I think that the Cole return was at least adequate.
He has made the imbalance worse by being the fine pitcher for the Astros that he showed signs of being for the Pirates.
I do not think him a bad guy and wish him well as he will be cracking the $150M barrier.
There is a saying that says “ if you cannot say anything good about someone don’t say anything”.Many of these posters never heard of it.Be critical, but don’t be negative unless it is really warranted.

Cole wanted out and during his last season here, certainly pitched like it. As for negativity, get real. I try to imagine what adding one or two pieces would have done during the WC years—the Pirates’ “golden era” just as I try to imagine what the Pirates would have today had they kept Meadows, Glasnow, not to mention Baz
You’d think that most billion dollar operations have a plan for procedural operations moving forward. This ownership dropped successful veterans AND some of its most promising, coveted young talent in the space of 18 months
That’s not negativity, but stark reality

In your opinion it is.
Do you ever have anything good to say about the Pirates?
Do you think that every decision and every trade has been bad?
Or do you always harp about what you think are the bad ones?
Much of what you say tends to lean toward true.
But I think that you are the one who needs to get real to be taken seriously by fair, unbiased, and knowledgeable posters.

If the current ownership and leadership was in corporate America Fortune 500 company they all would be ask to leave the organization. Hope this happens to Pirates. Nutting on top of all the annual profits he has gained since owning the Pirates, based on the current sale of KC Royals he stands to be a multi billionaire. Hope Pirates fans open their eyes and see that they have been dealt a bunch of BS the last 20 years.
Mendoza Line 215
That is a rather harsh statement. This regime had a tepemendous hill to climb. The three year period would have been excellent without the Cardinals in the same division.
Some of the statements recently I agree are BS.
And,yes,I think that some heads should roll.
All Pirate fans share the same inclinations and frustrations, but in the real world, the management group has to deal with reality.
Hopefully upper management has learned some lessons ( which they previously should have known),and makes the necessary changes going forward.
I still think that the basic team is a fairly good one,and NH adds where he needs to do so to get them competitive and deep again.
If not,I may very well end up using most of your post next year.

Are you joking? I’ve likely written less than 50 posts ever on the site and instead spend my time reading. I’ve been around since the Forbes Field days, have played and managed at higher levels
For the record, I’be liked the young talent this organization has chosen and developed under Huntington. What I haven’t liked is the mismanagement of that talent as it translates to putting a consistently competitive team on the field. I have little regard for management blaming fans or for its continual harangue about small market teams competing
And lastly, I could care less about “earning respect” from readers who somehow have your admiration
I don’t know who you are, nor do I care about someone whose feelings are hurt by critique and criticism, and from someone whose psyche hinges on how many messages he writes on a message board and how he’s perceived therein

Dude-you could not be further from the truth on the last paragraph..
You have not hurt my feelings as I am not influenced in any manner about anything tiredolddude has to say.

Most of them already know. You are correct! Corporate America would have fired every one of them! Nutting is, admittedly, not a baseball guy. He mustn’t pay attention to any of it. Because Huntington should have been fired after the Cole trade! They can’t draft, they can’t develop!
Mendoza Line 215
If he was fired after the Cole trade they wouldn’t not have gotten REynolds and CRick for MCCutcheon.
How about Nova for nothing.Dickerson for less than nothing.
Cervelli for Wilson.
Lots of recent good trades.Yinzers concentrate on Archer and Cole trades.
Do you think Cole would have made the difference the last two years? They got four decent ML players for a pitcher who had just had two mediocre years.
Too many negative posters on here who do not evaluate the whole picture.
