The Giants have claimed left-handed pitcher Wandy Peralta off waivers from the Reds, according to C. Trent Rosecrans of The Athletic. He’ll report to his new club on Monday, tweets Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic, adding that the Giants have placed infielder Zach Green on the 60-day injured list thanks to a hip impingement.
Peralta has thrown 34 innings for the Reds this year, striking out 27 batters and walking 15 en route to a 6.09 ERA. He hasn’t been able to duplicate the success he generated in 2017, but he’ll have a chance for a change of scenery as he joins the stable of Giants relievers for a September tryout.

How about the Giants just claim the whole Reds’ bullpen! Still wouldn’t help them out though.

Solid year in 2017. Maybe they can get him back to that form.
jgreen2487
Haha that guys never getting back to that form. I think he’s a one hit(year) wonder kind of guy. He’s been a headache for us since and no matter how many times he was brought down when he came back up he just was terrible.
joeshmoe11
He’s had 2 good months in 3 seasons. Short of that he’s been awful

I thought this was about Wandy Rodriquez when I glanced at this. Unfortunately for this Wandy his numbers don’t look even close to as good as the first Wandy in MLB.

who???

Farhan Zaidi has maxed out the 40- man roster now. There’s no one else who’s injured enough to go on the 60- day IL. We should see some players being cut now that the River Cats are all but done for the year. My guesses would be Corban Joseph and Kyle Barraclough will be cut in the next couple days and we’ll see Dan Winkler, Abiatal Avelino, Williams Jerez, and Mike Gerber come up. And they still have to clear a spot for Johnny Cueto sooner or later. What a headache Zaidi will have this off-season trying to decide which of his impulsive waiver claims to keep and which ones to lose in order to make players they want to protect from the Rule V draft (Tyler Cyr, Garrett Williams, Jalen Miller, etc.tree

I’m very willing to let Farhan do his thing. I think he is giving a bunch of guys an opportunity this September to see if they are a good fit in the future. Peralta is a lefty I believe and who knows where Watson and Smith will be next year.
Jumanji
Watson I believe has a player option for next year. There was some talk on this site he might decline it because it was for not that much, but now I think he’ll exercise it. He has been pitching pretty poorly lately and the free agent market may not yield more than the kind of deal Pomeranz, Solarte, and Parra received.
In fairness to Smith and Watson they probably are just tired. A lack of effective starting pitching and hitting has lead to a ridiculously overworked bullpen.
I believe the Giants will be outbid for Smith’s services and we’ll have a closer by committee-unless they spend some of that money they’re saving from Melancon and others on bullpen upgrades. Whether they plan on contending or not it’s imperative they add a solid veteran starter. Otherwise we might be looking at a rotation of Cueto, Samardzija, Rodriguez, Webb, and let’s say Anderson. I could see Beede moving to the bullpen or going back to Triple- A. Underwhelming rotation either way.

Totally unrelated to this move but, for the love of God stop running Crawford and Belt out in the starting lineup. Let them pinch hit this month and let other guys play. Enough already. When you add Posey to the mix, it is essentially 4 outs in 9 batters, counting the pitcher. Regarding peralta, keep doing you Farhan. Another low risk addition

Speaks volumes that Peralta’s release from the Reds didn’t even warrant a post at MLBTR.
The Reds’ FO is SLOWLY clearing out the dead wood.

Who else should they get rid of! Lefties are hard to come by and it makes me wonder about Dereck Johnson, I guess he couldn’t do anything with Peralta

Dereck Johnson could coach me up till his heart’s content. I still wouldn’t throw strikes/break a window.

Votto but it will not happen.
