The Yankees announced a series of pitching transactions today. Recently acquired southpaw Joe Mantiply was designated for assignment, removing him from the 40-man roster. Also departing the 40-man is southpaw Daniel Camarena, who was released.
Those 40-man spots went to a pair of other hurlers. The club activated righty Jonathan Loaisiga from the 60-day injured list and selected the contract of righty Adonis Rosa. The Yanks had already optioned Mantiply and righty Brady Lail, opening the two active roster spots that have now been filled.
What’s most significant here for the division-leading Yankees is the return of Loaisiga. He has battled shoulder troubles this year and hasn’t yet been a consistent piece at the MLB level. But the talent is obvious and the Yanks have plenty to gain by getting him up to speed down the stretch. He is not fully stretched out as a starter, so the club seems likely to utilize him in some sort of relief role, perhaps of the multi-inning variety.

Is this supposed to be funny? Because it’s not even close.
Hey I can’t pronounce a guy’s name or take the 60 seconds it takes to figure it out.
That isn’t funny, it means you’re an idiot.
thebighurt619
You need to get some WD-40 man and stop being so stiff. Loosen up a bit.

I doubt I’ve seen many more perfect comments than this

Yes!
Classic!

BigHurt laying the smack down. Nice. I have never heard of the guy and simple deduction told me that was probably his nickname if not it should be.
Scrabble said that was not the correct nickname for him. He had one as a kid which he wore on the day they could wear other names but he goes with it because that is what everyone calls him.
PopeMarley
You might want to read some Yankees media, watch some games, and read some Yankees blogs before being so arrogantly wrong.
dobsonel
Exactly! It’s his nickname. Pretty much universally accepted.
jorge78
So his teammates are
lazy idiots too!!??

Thats.
Not.

With a name like rusty hinge, you really should chill. Take a Prozac calm the f’ down. Geez. Everyone is just having a little fun. You do have the option of just not coming into the comment section. I suggest you do just that!!!

Always funny, when idiots call others idiots. He had the nickname, before being called up to the majors: sportingnews.com/us/mlb/news/jonathan-loaisiga-nic…

Is he related to Johnny Karate? Maybe Burt Macklin?

Life being a struggling player looking for a shot can be hard. Yo-yoing back and forth, club to club with the DFAing that seems to be nonstop. Amazing journey though for those few that make it big time.
Xavier Blaine
Was watching on MLB Central today and they were saying that the Yankees were right to not trade for pitching at the deadline because there wasn’t anybody that would really make a significant improvement in their rotation. So they’re saying that Bumgarner or Greinke wouldnt improve their rotation?
srechter
No indication that Bumgarner was truly available at all, and the Greinke deal, while exciting and bold, required a risky, hefty price tag from Houston, both in terms of prospects and financial commitment. Plus, it’s unlikely Greinke would’ve waved his no-trade clause anyway.
jorge78
Greinke probably thought
his social anxiety would
spike in NY…..
Xavier Blaine
Bumgarner was definitely available in late June/early July.
sheff86
MB wasn’t available and Greinke has stated he would veto a trade to NYY.
Welcome to MLBTR
ctguy
Greinke is an excellent pitcher, but he has a well publicized anxiety disorder. That just wouldn’t play well in NY. Bumgarner had a no trade list that included the Yankees. He also said that he wanted to finish his career in SF. Neither one would have been a good fit in NY.
PopeMarley
You have no idea how Greinke would function in NY other than your speculation. Bumgarner has not stated anywhere he wants to finish his career in SF. All of this of course is just your opinions.
Michael Birks
You have no idea what a diagnosed anxiety disorder is if you think that he would thrive in New York City, His remaining money would be an awfully big risk considering what we know
PopeMarley
Where did I say “he would thrive in New York City”? Just like everyone here I don’t know what the results of Greinke pitching in New York would be. I just choose to be open minded rather than speak in absolutes.
ctguy
It’s tough enough to pitch in NY without an anxiety disorder. Just ask Sonny Gray.
dobsonel
Sonny Gray is no Zach Greinke.
southbeachbully
@PopeMarley Although you are correct in that we don’t know for sure but Greinke has expressed prior that he wants no part of NYC. Cashman knows it too which is why Greinke and the Yanks have always been mentioned but never taken seriously. Kuddos for Greinke knowing himself better than us. Nothing wrong with that.
ctguy
I don’t think I said he was
ctguy
I agree. It’s no secret that he did not want to pitch in NY. It shouldn’t be so difficult to understand why with his anxiety issues.
Xavier Blaine
He pitched pretty well for LA though, another big market team with big ambitions/expectations.
southbeachbully
@xavierBlaine Greinke and the Yanks were not a marriage meant to be. Neither really wants to see that experiment play out.
PopeMarley
We’ll never know.
ctguy
No we won’t
jorge78
Zaay-vee-eer where have
you been!!??

Neither player was available for the Yankees, so yes, that’s precisely what it means.

add Carmarena to the “phantom big-leaguers” list
birdsfan415
so sad
4Gehrig4
Yawn…. Carmarena was not getting it done at AAA (6.75 ERA in 18 games). Rosa has been better (mix of AA and AAA). Manitply ate three innings last night, but that’s about all you can say – same for Lail, although he looked a little sharper out there to me than Mantiply did. Will be good to see Loaisiga back — he was pretty stead last year — don’t know that he’s a long term answer, but he can take some spot starts. All in all some very minor changes here.
YankeesBleacherCreature
They both combined for 5.2 IP, 6 ER, 2 HR and the Yankees still won. Allows the regular bullpen guys some rest during a doubleheader. It was a good move. The Yankees with their sizable lead are reaching to catch lightning in a bottle for an arm.
A'sfan
Yanks subtract Mantiply? It just doesn’t add up.

Sorry to hear about Daniel Camarena. While his release was not unexpected (given his #’s at Scranton) he’s been in the Yankee organization for six years and shown promise at times. I just hope he catches on somewhere and finds a way to up his game. Good luck and all the best Daniel!
