The Tigers signed right-hander Matt Wotherspoon to a minor league contract, MLB Daily Dish’s Andersen Pickard tweets. Wotherspoon will join the roster at Triple-A Toledo. Detroit originally drafted Wotherspoon as a 20th-round pick back in 2013, though he chose to remain in college for another year, not turning pro until the Yankees took him in the 34th round of the 2014 draft.
The 27-year-old Wotherspoon made his Major League debut earlier this season, tossing 4 2/3 innings over two games with the Orioles without much success, as he posted a 15.43 ERA over his brief taste of the Show. He was also twice outrighted off Baltimore’s 40-man roster before being released by the O’s last week. Over 455 1/3 career innings in the farm systems of the Orioles and Yankees, Wotherspoon has a 3.62 ERA, 9.5 K/9, and 2.93 K/BB rate, though he has struggled to 5.54 ERA over 65 frames at Triple-A Norfolk this season.

literally wouldn’t kill to sign bartolo

For entertainment value only. He could DH on Miggy’s days off and pinch run for him late in games. That would be the worth of admission, better money spent than attending a comedy club.

Now the Tigers are WithTheirSpoon.

Are you a new dad, or you be going at the game for a while?

I don’t understand. Can you explain?

Gotta start looking get Boyd’s replacement, he’s falling apart. Lol he’s straight doo-doo
diller1340
Boyd is still a quality front end of the rotation type pitcher. He has regressed of his pace at the beginning of the year but still overall solid. His last start was awful but it was off extended rest because he was at home for his wife having a baby. And his start previous to that one he was outstanding 7innings 2hits 1rub 9Ks
its_happening
Are we back on this lie train again? Matt Boyd is not a quality front end rotation pitcher. He is a quality middle to end of the rotation pitcher. No team has a prayer of success with Boyd as their ace. This argument was put to bed weeks ago.

Al Avila thinks hiding behind a screen name can trick other GMs into thinking others believe Boyd is higher ranked than he really is.

Had the Tigers traded him everyone would have said “light return” just like they did with Greene yet now that trade looks heavily one sided towards the Tigers. I am glad they kept him because his long ball issues could be an anomaly. He’s on a bad team & feels has has to pitch perfect every time. He’s being nitpicking instead of going after hitters so this can be fixed. He’s not an ACE but he’s our only dependable pitcher & needs to be the leader next year. Plenty of time to trade him next year or the year after. Maybe not at all.
jbigz12
If anyone said light return on Greene they had no idea what his market was in the first place.
Pickle_Britches
Yes but what about the 3 starts before that one? C’mon guys stop with this already. Boyd is a solid #4-5
Stat_head
So you are claiming every #4 or 5 starter has an 11.8 K/9 & 4.95 K/BB ratio??? Simply saying the same thing over and over without any stats to back it up doesn’t make you right.
gusk
Over his last 15 starts combined, Boyd’s ERA is around 5.80 and his whip is right at 1..30. In 13 of those 15 starts, his ERA hovers around 6.60. That said, I’ve been a fan of Boyd for a couple years and still like the guy. BUT… right now, until he stops falling apart the second half of the season he’s a #3-4, not a 1-2.

3 or 4 much better than a 5

Tigers should call up Tim Adleman. If he qualified, he would lead the IL in ERA…
Metsfan9
Darn I was predicting he would sign with the Skeeters!
