…and another reason why we should have dealt Cesar years ago

Gennett signs with Indians.

Why do we keep getting Whit Merrifield trade questions, and why do the chat hosts keep answering them? The situation has been commented on ad nauseum.

Badda Bing!

Would have loved to know what Steve thinks Donaldson would command this offseason and considering he will have a QO hanging over him, especially considering how much QO have hurt aging players lately. I feel we see a lot of ppl predicting next contracts for players and we only see the offers shut down very rarely does the host explain what he believes the cost would be rather then just saying no to whatever number is in the question. I would imagine that with the quality offer that the Braves may be able to retain him to a 3/70ish million contract I don’t foresee them giving a 4th year and unless management from liberty media allows the fo to sign rendon we can’t find a replacement bat as good as Donaldson has been this season and clearly having a Donaldson behind freemen has finally made freemen look like the steady player he’s been for years

Imo I wouldn’t give Donaldson more than two years…he is always hurt…give him more than two years he is going to be sitting for at least a year with injuries…I like Donaldson but he is a big risk with his injury history
bhambrave
I could see two years plus a vesting option for Josh.
DTD
So 1 season makes him always hurt? Guess we need to contact Webster’s and have them change the definition for always.
bhambrave
I think the Braves didn’t negotiate the Melancon salary because they were working on the Greene deal at the deadline and ran out of time. AA just said “remember this and give me a break next time”.

Compare the Yankees lineup to the Astros, it’s not even close… add in the Astros have 3 top 10 options in the starting rotation (in the entire MLB), and it’s an easy statement to make that “the Astros are better by a wide margin”… yankees bullpen is probably slightly better, but I don’t see how that will matter much when the Astros lineup beats down the Yankees SP in a playoff game.
DTD
To whomever asked the question about trading Yelich, just give up on baseball. That’s the worst question I’ve ever heard.
ottomatic
anyone saying the Astros are better than the Yankees by a “fair margin” is clearly showing their bias. if you think they’re better, very fair, but it’s definitely extremely close. especially when you factor in Paxton potentially finally pitching like a frontline guy, and if severino comes back and does the same then the diff between the 2 teams is razor thin.
but yeah, someone who follows baseball as closely as a writer on this site would, if that person says Houston is better than the yanks by a “fair amount”- I’d bet a million bucks that part of the writer doesn’t care for the Yankees. there’s no other explanation. not a good look for the site guys. biases need to be removed or analysis is tainted.
bhambrave
Given the current health of the two teams, I think it’s reasonable to say the Astros are better by a fair margin. To say otherwise shows a bias.
jb19
Astros are much better… if Severino and Paxton were on the Astros, they would be the 4th and 5th starter, assuming Severino can even take the mound this year. Astros have 7 starters w an OPS at or over .898 (Yuli has an .898 OPS) compared to the Yankees 3… Yankees lineup won’t be facing the Orioles or Jays SPs in postseason either. So pump the breaks on how good these guys actually are… Astros may even have a top 10 MLB prospect make the postseason roster to replace the weak link in Josh Reddick.

As far as I know, Steve isn’t specifically a fan of either team. It’s just when you look at both teams, the Astros are the better team. However, the better team on paper doesn’t necessarily win in the playoffs
