re: September roster size changes: I hope the Arizona Fall Legaue expands so that teams can give more players a look after the minor league season ends. Perhaps you can hold it from the end of the AAA season through the world series and allow teams to ferry players up and down between said AFL teams and the Majors. it gives guys not on postseason rosters a place to stay sharp in case they need to replace a guy who goes down during the postseason, and allows the guys from each team who dont get September call ups to keep playing and hone their skills and prep for the next season, while perhaps showcasing guys who may be cut off the 40 man in the offseason. thoughts?

They did change AFL so that teams can send players not in AA-AAA so we should see younger top prospects in the AFL

It annoys me when people talk rookie of the year in the NL and how Alonso is hands down favorite… historically speaking soroka is doing more history making in his first season then tatis or Alonso. Cool Alonso hit 40 hrs the ball is juiced, I’d be more impressed a few years ago with these numbers with a non juiced ball. A pitcher with a sub 2.50 era in a time of the juiced ball is much more impressive considering no rookie has ever held an era this low let alone in the year of all the hr records being broken by teams.

I agree. A guy who plays 1B hitting a lot of HRs, while impressive doesn’t move the needle for me, at as far as ROY. Although, my choice would have been Tatis, but his injury really hurts his chances. That elevates Alonso somewhat, but I still prefer more complete players that play the real skill positions.

I’m a Braves fan myself but let’s not get the needle too far ahead. What Alonso is doing is incredible!

Soroka of late HAS been getting more attention.

I think having zones that defenders have to stay in, thus eliminating defensive shifts, is an absolutely horrible idea. It would apply an artificiality to the game. I love the fact that managers like Maddon can play 5 guys on the IF, or 4 guys in the OF. Plus, I don’t think baseball should be making rules that impact strategy. I don’t even like the 3 batter minimum for pitchers. It’s up to the hitters to find a way to defeat the shift. Granted, they have been slow in doing so, but since baseball is a copycat sport, once one team finds a way, every team will. It will be interesting to watch.

It is a fascinating debate.
I don’t know the answer…..

Gonna get flamed for this buuuut…. Brian McCann seems to have figured out how to beat the shift.

Just hit ’em where they ain’t!

I see my comment was deleted. Again: AA laughs the Red Sox off the line and hangs up. There.

UGH, seriously with the Liberty Media crap again?!?!?! They do not control payroll, that is set by Terry McGuirk. AA had an interview yesterday and he even said, Liberty is not part of any payroll talks, he goes straight to Terry and Terry approves it almost immediately. LM has nothing to do with the payroll, for the last time.
