The White Sox announced today that they have placed outfielder Eloy Jimenez on the 10-day injured list. The club identified his injury as a “right ulnar nerve contusion.”
To fill the open active roster spot, the South Siders have selected the contract of infielder Ryan Goins. A 40-man slot had already been created when righty Juan Minaya was designated for assignment; the club announced that he has been outrighted to Triple-A.
It’s not known yet how long Jimenez will be sidelined, but it doesn’t sound as if the young slugger is at risk of a particularly lengthy absence. As for Goins, he’s back in the majors for the first time since 2018 after slashing a sturdy .322/.406/.531 in 316 plate appearances at Triple-A.

An infielder to replace an outfielder.
Maybe something else going on.
Cubs probably offering a boatload of players and prospects for Leury Garcia.
His nickname is “Go Go”! Perfect name for one of Ricky’s boys.
RPKennelly
Let’s hope it’s to play SS because watching Garcia and Rondon throw the ball into RF constantly is getting old.
Cub21
Or maybe Hahn wants to trade Luis Robert for Jeff Samardzia.
Selkies
Or maybe Epstein wants to trade us another Eloy Jimenez and Dylan Cease for Jose Quintana.
Oh wait, that’s right… you guys don’t have any worthwhile prospects anymore. (/sarcasm)
ChiSox_Fan
Plus the Cubbies have no money for payroll.
pt57
Cubs – 1st place in division
Sox – 14 1/2 back in a weak division
tim2686
may be a weak division overall, but the Twins have been outstanding this year.
Cub21
That may be true. But most of your prospects are hurt. Maybe Hahn can trade for Machado…
Cub21
You must be from Mount Greenwood…
ncaachampillini
The Sox will be fine. Didn’t they stock up on like 5 of Machado’s friends/cousins/in laws/lawn cutters/whatever? They can fill in for all these soft injured dudes. Eloy hurt his funny bone and is on the IL. That is an actual sentence.
pullhitter445
Cubs will not win the World Series this year. If I were a cubs fan I’d be upset that a great young core may only win 1 World Series. Theo has made all the wrong moves since. Say what you want about the white Sox, but I’m happy as a fan to see Anderson, moncada, giolito, and jiminez showing signs of our future looking better than it has in a long time.
DrCrawdad
So much for the trope trotted out by cubbie clowns, “We cubbies fans pay no attention to the Sox…”
maximumvelocity
Nothing else is going on.
Rather than give a chance to a young player under control for years, he goes with some AAAA player for no logical reason.
ChiSox_Fan
Except to hit HRs!
Goins goes yard!

sox lose – sox lose!

Tanking for top 5 draft pick

Aw another cubbie clown obsessed with the Sox

Glad to see Goins back in the bigs. Playing well in AAA. Always had a great glove with a solid arm. Hopefully he still has the range to play SS. Very good INF defender despite what analytics tell you.
GoSoxGo
Yep. The Sox rebuild takes another step forward with the recall of a former big leaguer who has been let go by several teams. But this is the White Sox way: see A.J. Reed for still another recent example. Why, oh why, does the Sox brass continue to pepper us with players who can’t or haven’t performed at the major league level? And if they DO perform well, they’re bound to be traded for “prospects.” Does anybody think Ryan Goins is going to excite the fan base or prompt people to come out to the park? Does anybody think he can make any kind of difference?
pplama
Year 3 of a rebuild can be frustrating. Especially when injuries further expose the expected lack of depth.
its_happening
Here’s what I can say GoSoxGo….
Ryan Goins is better than Jose Rondon. Perhaps on both sides of the ball. We’ll see.
Also curious if the White Sox ever thought about Roberts replacing Alonso when they got rid of him.
Dogbone
You want to know why the Sox ‘brass’ pepper the fans with trash- I’ll tell you why – it’s because ownership is the cheapest, absolutely cheapest, in baseball. The have five more years of rebuild.
ChiSox_Fan
See Reed hit a clutch pinch hit 3
run HR In 9th!!!
Forces KC to use closer tonight.
jorge78
And he is a Round Rock guy. Go-Go Goins!
Priggs89
Should’ve been called up when Anderson went down. And Mendick should be taking all of Yolmer’s 2B at-bats, pushing him into Rondon’s utility role.
CalcetinesBlancos
100% convinced Hahn makes roster moves via Ouija board.
jimmertee
Good to see Goins Back in the big leagues. He’s one of the good guys. He has some pop too. I’ll be watching to see how he does.
ChiSox_Fan
First HR since 2017!
ChiSox_Fan
He has it goin’ now.
BA .667 with the HR
He hits righties and lefties.
Selkies
This is going to cripple our offense for awhile. Jimenez has, easily, been our best hitter for the past 4-6 weeks. He has been on an absolute tear, so this is a real bummer.
Selkies
For the people wondering why we’d call up an infielder to take Eloy’s roster spot, it’s because we have our usual everyday center-fielder, Leury Garcia, at shortstop to alleviate Tim Anderson’s absence.
I imagine that we’ll likely move Leury Garcia back to center-field, slide Yolmer Sanchez over to play shortstop, and use Ryan Goins as our 2nd baseman.
ChiSox_Fan
Tilson or Cordell could have gone to AAA and “Go Go” brought up when Timmy first went down.
msqboxer
Should slide Yolmer out the door and call up a real SS like Escobar.
Priggs89
Or just call up the 25 year old 2B/3B that slashed .361/.478/.667 with more walks than strikeouts in spring training. Give the kid a chance. He’s probably not worse than Yolmer, and I can all but guarantee he’s not worse than Rondon.
nickyfives
Great glove, terrible bat, but fairly clutch of the bench
house71
Goins is playing short tonight. So your telling me we might have a chance?
pplama
It’s odd they’d specify the ulnar nerve when listing the injury as a bruise. Shades of Rodon’s “biceps bursitis”.
Priggs89
Get the TJ out of the way now so he can DH next year. Maybe he can learn how to throw a ball with authority during his rehab.
pplama
Like Adolfo?
Priggs89
Like Ohtani
ChiSox_Fan
Well at least injury not as bad as Mondesi’s injury appears to be.
Maybe Eloy has a bruise causing swelling and putting pressure on the ulnar nerve. Very painful and causes weakness in his arm.
msqboxer
Can we just trade, dump or give away Sanchez, Rondon, Cordell and Palka….tired of being the home of AAAA players and former MLB players who once hit .230 in the show.
house71
Lunar nerve contusion aka funny bone.

Ulnar

Ah huh

That’s funny though

Give yourselves another few years, you’ll top that .500 mark real soon!!!
Miketime53
The bring up the retreads thing is what’s wrong with this years rebuild. They are so afraid of going after something that might block one of their prospects or having a winning season that this is their roster plan. This is a team that if the brass gave a damn about their fans would have aggressively sought Keuchel or Kashnner or even Homer Bailey. Before you jump all over me with why would you want these guys? Keuchel is a former Cy Young winner who could be their number 2 and the other two would be 3&4 and then be gone at the end of the year, so no prospects would be blocked.
The reason I am so adamant of trying to be a 500plus team is so a Garret Cole will even consider coming to the South Side. He will be sought by all the high rollers and I just don’t see a 75 win White Sox team interesting him.
Dogbone
Hahahahaha, yeah, I bet G Cole just can’t wait to sign with a team that tries to improve on the CHEAP!!!
ASapsFables
The White Sox will have a sit-down with Gerrit Cole in free agency just as they did with Bryce Harper last offseason. I can’t fathom them signing him for these reasons:
1-Like Harper, Cole will receive a qualifying offer from the Astros. The White Sox won’t forfeit a #2 pick in the 2020 June Rule 4 Draft.
2-It’s not the m.o. of the front office or ownership to offer huge, lengthy contracts to elite free agent pitchers. They competed for Manny Machado and lost out to the Padres. They won’t even be in the ballpark with Cole who will be negotiating with some of MLB’s top spenders.
I do expect the White Sox to pursue a veteran starting pitcher this offseason to help anchor their young rotation. The most likely candidate will be Mark Buehrle “clone” Dallas Keuchel who won’t be eligible for a QO this winter as he was last as a FA. Additionally, Keuchel won’t command the years or dollars that Cole will ultimately receive.
cwsOverhaul
2020 should matter. Get Robert extension done and let him struggle with steady diet of breaking balls like Eloy did starting in August. Trade Yolmer for scraps and promote Madrigal to adjust to MLB with no need to extend. AAA for him would be pointless box checking. Filter out the vet fringe mlb players used to losing.
Nick Stevens
Cool, maybe they can move their power hitting Willie Jay to clean up and put Goins in the 5 hole. That should solidify the offense.
Idioms for Idiots
Hopefully he’s down for just the 10 days or 2 weeks if he needs AAA rehab. Injuries are going to happen to teams every year, might as well get all these injuries out of the system while this team doesn’t have anything left to play for this season. Yes, I know mathematically the Sox are still in it, but realistically they are done. That 3-7 road trip I was fearing this past weekend might be the best case scenario at this point. Enough about that.
I’m still looking forward to the Sox actually being a good team next year, legitimately competing for a playoff spot. The way I look at it, the rebuild is about to end. I’ll enjoy this team at times the rest of this year, but I will really enjoy watching this team starting next year. The wait is almost over, folks.
Dogbone
A big year for the Sox, will be 78 wins.
maximumvelocity
Another retread instead of a young guy like Mendick who could serve a role on contending team.
Makes no sense at all in a rebuilding year.
