The Royals have designated righty Wily Peralta for assignment, per Jeffrey Flanagan of mlb.com. Right-hander Josh Staumont will be recalled in his place.
Once a promising young starter for the Brewers, Peralta hit the skids in 2015 and couldn’t steady himself even after a 2017 transition to the bullpen. Kansas City’s reclamation attempt also fell flat: in 42 relief appearances for the club this season, Peralta posted a 5.80 ERA/5.85 FIP on back of a mere 5.36 K/9. Command was always an issue for the now 30-year-old, who often flashed electric heat but rarely displayed the bat-missing secondary stuff to match.
The move was somewhat overdue for the Royals, whose players are afforded some of the longest leashes league-wide. The KC ’pen has again been shaky this season, though the trio at the back-end (Ian Kennedy, Jake Diekman, Scott Barlow) has been far more reliable than last season’s iteration.
They waited as long as the could to see if he could pitch himself into some value but it didn’t happen.
Didn’t help that he blew up at the kid behind the plate last night.
Yep. He looked like he was trying to shift the blame for his bad pitching onto the kid.
That was pretty ugly,I figured Yost wouldn’t put up with that for long since he’s an ex-catcher.
The Phillies should sign him to the minor league contract . If they offer one to Harvey as well, hopefully one or two of the trio Harvey, Peralta and Smyly can perform better in the majors.
That sounds like a good plan for completely burying their season.
no thank you. Smyly is only a stopgap, and even less washed up then the other two (which is saying a lot)
Maybe a new organization and surrounding could do Peralta and Harvey good
I would not recommend Wily Peralta to anyone. Even the bad news Bears wouldn’t want him
next blue Jay’s pen arm. just to pick off Trim and Jimmer
That really picked me off Mr. Wrong.
ouch burn
It was clever. I know.
Staumont as the opener followed by Montgomery?
There is really no need for the Royals to use an opener. And if they were going to, using a guy with a career 7.0 bb/9 in the minors would probably not be a great idea…
