The Rangers have returned right-handed pitcher Kyle Dowdy, who was chosen in December’s Rule 5 Draft, to the Indians, per a club announcement. He had been designated for assignment on Thursday and was offered to his original club after clearing waivers.
Originally chosen by the Mets in the Rule 5 Draft, Dowdy was subsequently claimed off waivers by the Rangers. Before landing on the injured list with an elbow impingement, he contributed 22 1/3 innings, including one start, for the Rangers, striking out 17 batters but walking 18.
Dowdy, 26, will return to the Indians organization and has been assigned to Double-A Akron.

Our minor leagues pitching coordinators will get him going right again.

Yes.
When he came over from Detroit last season they altered his delivery and he was throwing 5 mph faster and with better control by the end of the season.

The electronic strike zone would have saved this kid some BB; he surely was squeezed in the games I watched. Like most rookies, they must prove themselves to the working umpire behind the plate. Unfortunately, different k-zones according to the name on your back…
robluca21
Kind or a waste had him take up a roster spot for months . Few months away from having control of him in your organization
Meh whatwver

Could’ve just DLed him with ERA inflammation until September and kept him…..

I don’t think the time on the IL counts towards Rule 5 requirements.
themaven
You are correct,it doesn’t.
But they can keep him on the IL during the off season and start up his rule 5 required time on the roster at the beginning of next season. The Orioles did that with Anthony Santander.
Meko
Sort of. He only has to spend 90 days on the active roster. I thought he had enough time that he could be hidden. Guess not.

Speaking of Rule 5 guys… we will have to return Wilson Garcia ourselves, correct? I believe he was a Rule 5 we selected but he never will sniff past AA.
Bigfigga1920
Never mind! I just read he was taken in the minor league Rule 5 as a minor league free agent of the Rangers. Different set of rules than the major league version. Burning River Baseball just listed Garcia as the Tribe’s #1 1B Prospect with Bobby Bradley now graduated to the major leagues and no longer a prospect….this even though Bradley bring sent back down again to AAA recently .
