Not trading for Greinke now? You alright?
steelerbravenation
I don’t think Arizona is gonna make him available
But if they do I think it would only be taking his contract on
Donaldson, O’Day, .Kuechel & Gausman contracts coming off the books and the rest of the rotation not really making major money plus the Albies & Acuna contracts I don’t see many teams able to take on as much of that contract as the Braves could afford. For me it’s a no brained going after Greinke now whether it’s at the deadline or in the offseason that’s on Arizona.
martras
The Diamondbacks made Greinke available this past offseason, but when they didn’t get any significant interest, they kept him in the hopes he would generate some interest before the trade deadline by performing (which he has).
The Diamondbacks would absolutely trade Greinke for any significant prospect package. The package gets more expensive as AZ takes on part of Greinke’s salary, naturally, but the preference would definitely be to move Zack.
SalaryCapMyth
In a vacuum the trade is pretty good. But the trade doesnt make since involving Marte. The Braves would be trading their future Center Fielder for a center fielder they would keep for a few months. Marte is also turning 31 before the start of next season so I doubt the wisdom of extending him. The Braves would be better served just finishing Pache’s development and let HIM take center field.
Vazquez is another story though. He is one of the few closers that is consistently good and is controlled until 2022. Two and a half seasons of Vazquez might be able to net you a top 30 prospect.
steelerbravenation
Marte I believe is signed thru 2021
steelerbravenation
Yes Marte is signed for 2 more years plus the rest of this one. And Vazquez is an All Star closer signed to a team friendly contract thru 2023. Gotta give something to get something.
66TheNumberOfTheBest
Yes, both players (2 of the Pirates 3 best players) are cheap and controlled for multiple seasons going forward, which is why they won’t be traded.
Drew Waters Bat
Your in for a rude awakening there Mr. Bell. Remember those words for when you get traded for a old PS2 and a N64 copy of Ken Griffey Jr Slugfest. Great game.
SalaryCapMyth
Okay I saw he has team options. I still dont see why we would want Marte going into his 30’s instead of Pache who will probably be on the roster by 2020.
Kevin28786
NO WAY are the Braves gonna trade Pache, IMO. although I do like Marte and Vazquez. Pirates’ brass has basically stated that they won’t be trading Vazquez anyway, and he’s the big need for the Braves (and everybody else in MLB).
steelerbravenation
I think maybe the Braves May have to throw in a couple lower level wild card type prospects but I think that deal works & is fair for both teams
Drew Waters Bat
Would love to see the Marte party trolling the outfield with Acuna Jr and Drew Waters next season. Oh boy yes please.
bhambrave
Waters likely won’t be up until 2021. I like the idea of an Acuna/Pache/Waters outfield in 2021.
steelerbravenation
I would like to see that OF too but Braves got a chance to do something now.
I am not sold on Riley at this point for this year. He strikes out way to much. His power has come back down to earth & he is a liability in the field.
In all honesty I would like to see the Braves resign Donaldson for a couple years and move Riley in a deal for a SP or young controllable closer. I don’t think it would take longer than a 2 year commitment.
2 things gotta be taken care of by the deadline for the Braves to be serious contenders. They need a true bonafide closer and they need a SP preferably an Ace type but a solid 2 could work as well.
Kevin28786
You don’t sell Riley now. He’s barely 22 years old. I’m obviously not comparing him to Mike Trout, BUT Trout struck out 184 times when he was 22 years old. The Braves won’t be re-signing Donaldson, but instead, I think they’ll try to keep Keuchel. He really seems to have taken to the team.
Drew Waters Bat
Pache and Waters are due for a promotion up to AAA. Waters is out hitting everyone at AA. Can’t see him getting promoted now then waiting a year and a half in AAA. I bet Waters will be a June call up next year. With how much he is crushing the AA ball, what do you think will happen when he gets ahold of a juiced ball in AAA and the Majors?
bhambrave
With Waters’ walk rate and strike-out rate, what do you think MLB pitchers will do to him? He still has a lot to work on. I don’t see him hitting Atlanta until late 2020-early 2021 at the earliest.
bhambrave
I agree that Riley has offensive weaknesses, and the league is catching on, but I disagree about the defensive liability. He’s not a left-fielder. If Donaldson walks, then Riley will move to 3B, where he’s much more experienced and comfortable.
The league has adjusted to Riley, and now he has to adjust to the league. If he does, then he’d be a primo trade chip or the long-term starter. If not then the Braves will keep him and try to fix his holes.
I think if Donaldson keeps playing like he has recently, then the Braves could offer him a QO. He might take it, but probably not. But since it’s AA, I wouldn’t be surprised by a multi-year offer.
Sam Bradshaw
Anyone know if Stroman could be a Yankee? I’m not able to pull this story up
steelerbravenation
I know he wants to be a Yankee from everything I have read.
Show Me Your Tatis
The Padres don’t have a pitcher named “Laurer.”
asdfgh
Hey Mark,
FYI at the time there was nothing wrong with Voit he just was low in depth remember at the time Carpenter and Martinez (Our two best hitters) last year at 1B and Gyorko was healthy and doing well at 3B.
Also Gallegos has been showing what many scouts have missed as a he’s clutch in high leverage and it seems Chasen Shreve has started using a splitter this year that has him regaining value for the Cardinals.
birdsonbat
Can you be in GOAT conversation if you’re linked to PEDs? Sorry bonds is out. Even if he was amazing before using.
Begamin
I think you can have 2 different types of GOAT conversations. One concerning the entire using player pool and the other concerning the entire player pool minus suspected PED users. So Bonds in one set of parameters is the GOAT but he is not the GOAT in the set of parameters that would exclude him.
Selkies
A lot of really bad Yankees proposal questions in there. Am I missing something with their farm system? Deivi Garcia looks like a legit piece, like probably a top-15 prospect in the near future but everyone else is pretty shaky, in my opinion.
I saw an MLB.com article today that had the Tigers trading Matt Boyd for Florial, Seigler, and Corbello. It seems like that would be an absolute stretch to say the least. You’d have to think the Tigers would aim much higher than that.
Phanatic 2022
Corbello has some promise. Seigler is not exciting and Florial for all his tools will probably never put it together.
sheff86
The Yanks want-
MB
Bauer
Stroman
Robbie Ray
They are not trading Garcia. Or any other pitcher of value.
Selkies
Yep, apparently every Yankees fan thinks they can whatever they want for Anthony Seigler and an A-baller.
aussiegiants53
I can see the Astros asking about MadBum and Will Smith, would really strengthen their pitching depth, Astros, Braves and Twins make most sense
antibelt
The Giants have been on such a roll, that if they happen to be at .500 in the next week, I don’t see them trading MadBum. If anything, they need to finally end the Pom experiment and call up Andrew Suarez. We have some hard throwers in the minors they could call up when we trade Smith, Watson, Dyson. Pillar has actually turned it up and should be made available for any team looking for outfield depth.
aussiegiants53
Suarez is having a very average year. I can’t see him coming up, Connor Menez would probably come up first even tho he’s no on the 40 man. Sam Selman is having a stellar year in AAA so he will come up too and potentially Okert if they trade Smith and Watson
steelerbravenation
Delusional Giant fans really believe they have a chance
Yes numbers wise say a possibility but the fact you would have to jump almost every other team in the NL makes it virtually impossible
Take the tremendous run you guys had, enjoy it & embrace a rebuild. Be realistic is Baby Yaz & Alex Dickerson going to be the OF that carries you to the promised land ????
antibelt
Slater has been performing well, and Pillar has as well. Dickerson has been fantastic, and may stay above average if we can continue to platoon him. Okert has never produced at the MLB level. I’d prefer to see Blach. Well aware Giants don’t have a shot, but I’d rather try to stay competitive while we rebuild, than intentionally lose games. That to me is pathetic.
Drew Waters Bat
That reasoning is why your team will stay at the back of the pack for the foreseeable future. Cause its pathetic to want to get better? To proud to know your barely above mediocre. You’d rather save face than save your team.
antibelt
No, because teams like the Yankees have managed to stay competitive and not tank. The Giants can afford to add payroll as necessary, as they have one of the highest profits in sports.
antibelt
So we going to talk about the 16-1 score, which was led by Yaz and Dickerson?
