MONDAY: An MRI revealed a “small” calf strain, Hoornstra was among those to tweet. Trout’s day-to-day.
SUNDAY, 6:52PM: Trout’s injury isn’t considered to be serious, manager Brad Ausmus told J.P. Hoornstra of the Southern California News Group (Twitter link). Still, Trout will undergo an MRI on Monday to determine the extent of his calf problem.
5:31PM: Mike Trout left today’s game after two innings due to what the Angels described as right calf tightness, and the star outfielder’s condition is day-to-day. The injury seemingly wasn’t caused by any obvious play on the field — Trout softly lined to first base in his only at-bat of the game, and he didn’t make any defensive plays during his two innings of work. Trout was replaced in center field prior to the beginning of the third inning.
While the removal could have simply been precautionary in nature, any type of injury to baseball’s best player is certainly worth noting. Trout is in the midst of yet another incredible season, with 30 homers and a .305/.455/.666 slash line over 402 plate appearances. He leads the league in any number of categories, including wRC+ (191), fWAR (6.5), offensive bWAR (5.9), on-base percentage, runs created, and walks. (In fact, Trout’s 77 walks top his 70 strikeouts.)
Los Angeles entered today’s action with a 47-46 record, five games behind Oakland for the final American League wild card slot. Needless to say, the Angels’ playoff chances would take a big hit should Trout have to go on the injured list for any lengthy amount of time. He is such a singular driving force in his team’s success that, if the worst-case scenario occurs and Trout does indeed need a significant IL stint, his absence could convince the Angels front office to explore selling veterans at the trade deadline.
Comes back mid game and hits 3 grand slams, because he’s that good
Maybe the man will think twice about slugging the number of the beast.
He should have slugged Aces High instead.
hopefully it’s nothing serious so we can all have some Piece of Mind
I’m not worried. He’s a Trooper.
it’s sad that the greatest player of all time keeps spending these Wasted Years on non contending teams
he has 12 more years to win the world series. i’m guessing 7 in those!
But, if the Angels ever did win, the Los Angeles residents of Anaheim would Run to the Hills to celebrate. Beverly. Hollywood. Whatever hills they could find.
He is playing exactly where he wants, no shame in that. It’s a shame that people like you don’t want people like him to do what they want.
have anything else to say using your valuable time in this life? next one may be as a cow tied to a huge grind stone!
Anaheim Hills, I’d guess.
No one is saying the Angels can’t win. Just a warning to heed…
Hear the Rime of the Seattle Mariners.
It’s hard to make the playoffs. Ask them to tell their tale.
But, even they escaped the curse of an albatross contract in Cano.
I think you may have missed the epic pun thread that was taking place.
mariners’ best chance was thwarted by the angels.
Pretty tired take. Ya. Their name. Blah blah.
You clearly know the subject.
Maybe next time try..
Anaheim hills. Laguna Hills. Santa Ana mountains. Orange hill. Hell, even go IE, and Mt Baldy.
But ya. Our fans are silly. Except…I’m guessing Pittsburgh here, but…when was the last time the bucs were in the playoffs? 2013? And before that? 92…? Yeah keep trolling Trouts wasted years.
I’d take wasted Trout for his career. And you know…12 more seasons. Totally won’t win.
The Pirates will have to content themselves with the tales of Honus Wagner and Roberto Clemente, Hallowed Be Thy Names.
Many of the Angels teams have been contending teams. Including one year where the Angels had the best record in baseball.
Do you not follow baseball? Or are you like DockEllis and on acid?
You never know, perhaps Trout will go Where (the Philadelphia) Eagles Dare and win it all. Or it could turn out like the Flight of Icarus.
The history of Trout’s career will be Caught Somewhere in Time like Alexander the Great, no doubt.
harper? ha ha!
myself and forwhomjoshbelltolls were dropping Iron Maiden references, no offense intended friend
He can play where he wants. But don’t expect his name to be put amongst the games all time greats when Trout CHOSE to play for a loser and be comfortable.
He wants nothing to do with playoff pressure
They haven’t contended for 4 years now, and they have a crappy minor league system.
That’s a bad sign. That’s a team that can’t accept it was time to rebuild and will try to plug holes with overpriced free agents and the ditch will only get deeper.
trolling must be your vocation!
Greatest comment thread ever. Troutstanding. If yer gonna troll, troll with your boots on!
Notice you couldn’t refute my arguement
“rev halofan5 hours ago
Greatest comment thread ever. Troutstanding. If yer gonna troll, troll with your boots on!”
To be fair, we were just having some fun. They kinda trolled themselves.
But, yes, a near perfect mix of people who got the joke and those who did not.
“But don’t expect his name to be put amongst the games all time greats”
Yeah, it won’t happen and certainly doesn’t already happen all the time.
Happy Mike Trout Monday!
ftw.usatoday.com/tag/mike-trout-monday
They contended two years ago, That’s why that got Upton and you are saying. And in Spite of Trout missing a 3rd of the season.
And you don’t know about this year. Bam.. been refuted.
The fact is, the last 4 years they have lost all but one of their starting pitchers due to injuries, and the one that wasn’t hurt was the worst of the 20.
You mean going 80-82 is contending? Since when?
4 years ago, yes. They contended. 2016 onward they haven’t been a true threat. Maybe for a couple months tops.
Nice refuting….
80-82 for them is a good season.
Mike Trout, the greatest exhibition baseball player of all time.
Hater! Typical babble from someone wishing Mike Trout was on his team.
So Boog, when did you speak with Trout to know that personal information?
Because they tanked in September. In late Aug they were the second wild card team.
How are the Phillies doing? Are you ripping the Phillies. The Angels have a better record. How are the Cardinals doing? Are you ripping the Cardinals. How about the Padres? The Angels have a better record than all three.
The Angels are not good enough to have 19 out of their starting pitchers go on the DL over the last 4 years. Few teams are. They’ll be in contention when they get that when they only lose two starters. But if they lose five again, like they have each of the last three years, they wont be.
Lol
all those Wasted Years in Anaheim.
Can’t wait for him to test positive for PEDs
You know it’s gonna happen
you’re gonna be waiting for a long, long, long time.
I’ll play devils advocate…
If it turns out he’s right than what?
Then Trout is a theif like Bonds, Clemens, Arod, Cruz, Polanco, and a dozens of others. And I wont root for him.
But there is NOTHING to suggest he’s a cheater… NOTHING. Not only is he one of baseball’s best players, he’s one of the best people in baseball. Go to a game something, get there a little early and just watch Mike Trout.
He’s Mr. Class.
Did you mean Marte or is there a non-Gregory Polanco who got busted for PED’s that I missed?
I just can’t wrap my head around him doing PED’s, but if he did that doesn’t mean the world will stop spinning.
SS, Twins.
You’re pathetic. Best player in the game with no hint of scandal and you spew nonsense. And this is not coming from an Angels fan, I am a Braves fan. Hope the injury is minor and this is just a precaution.
Bro it’s the GD internet…relaxxxx
That’s really no excuse for any hateful bs. People need to be better and not just allow the internet to be run by trolls
The true aholes are the people who can’t just take something for what it is. This isn’t the 60’s.
I wouldn’t be surprised if he did. But there is no evidence. So we can just say he’s so good people think he’s talking PEDs. Best player in baseball rn
i can, because then i wont end up disapointed.
i’m not surprised having read your posts. stay classless!
Step away from the grassy knoll…..
rgp12883……
If you knew anything about the way testing is conducted since the Biogenesis scandal, you would realize that your theory ranks right up there with the Ant-Man/Thanos theory that came out before the Endgame movie. You know….the theory online that Ant-Man would would kill Thanos by flying up his butt and then “supersize” himself inside, thereby “exploding” the bad guy.
interesting take +1
Simple Jack you never go full re…., never
You’re Australian, be Australian!
you have better chance of testing positive for h.i.v.
Haters gotta hate
So much for the halos contending for WC spot
Que ominous music…..
Why is this update on here? He’s not getting traded, it’s not a rumor? Trying to be the new ESPN? Should change the name of this site.
Trout being hurt relates to their need to trade for a CF. They might call Leonys Martin before he heads west.
H yeah don’t let Martin cross the border because if he does he doesn’t have the paperwork to come back
You really must be new here. They have been branching out of just “trade rumors” for like a decade..
Pedants are the worst
It is roster news, exactly what they do.
They under promise and over deliver.
Angels are doing better with Trout out. They just took a 6 to 3 lead. Same logic NBA talking heads had when they said Warriors were better off without Durant.
Idiots
Will the Angels ever place themselves in a position to take Trout to the World Series?
No.
They need pitching badly. They have a half dozen hitters having career years and they are still a .500 team. They need to sign a couple starters in the off season. Ryu and Cole are probably the best two options, but there’s also Hamels, Bumgarner, Miley, Odorizzi, Wheeler… Sign two of those and find one in a trade and they would have a great start for next year. They need to get serious because Trout and Ohtani aren’t getting any younger.
Don’t forget Ohtani will pitch next year too. Definitely need pitching, in the worst way. I say Cole (local big, went to Orange Lutheran, about 5 miles from the Big A, and IIRC Angels radio voice and former SP Mark Langston coached there..?) and one mid-range starter
with Ohtani and Heaney and Canning…
Would definitely be improved. I like the youth and depth offensively, outside of 1b. Trout, La Stella, Fletcher, Simmons, Thaiss, Calhoun, and heck even Upton with Adell waiting in the wings…? Things are trending up.
LA Stella, Thaiss, Calhoun, Fletcher and Upton? That’s “trending up”
No dummy, that’s a collection of stiffs having better than normal years in the year of the juiced ball, WHAT A SCHOCK!
The angels have Trout, Simmons, adell and Ohtani.
Outside of that they are probably the least talented organization in MLB from top to bottom.
Go overspend on free agents again, maybe THIS time they’ll learn.
that’s having better coaches for them, boo!
“No dummy, that’s a collection of stiffs having better than normal years in the year of the juiced ball, WHAT A SCHOCK!”
That describes literally none of the players mentioned (too early to tell on La Stella)
Calhoun: return to form year after two down years.Slight HR uptick but mostly playing like he’s played before. Comparable rate stats;
Upton: Injured most of the season. Rate stats under career norms
Thaiss: 5 games, 19 PA in the majors. Rookie. \o “normal years” to compare to.
Fletcher: 2nd season in majors. Improvements thoroughly uncontroversial/unsurprising for a 25 year old.
Buncha stiffs, I tells ya.
“The angels have Trout, Simmons, adell and Ohtani.”
Buncha other players too. They’re this whole baseball team.
“Outside of that they are probably the least talented organization in MLB from top to bottom.”
The Orioles, amongst others, say “hello” and “you’re basing that on nothing.”
I’m basing it on them having the 20th ranked farm system With a top 5 overall in it.
Remove him and what is it ranked?
Remove trout, Ohtani and Simmons and they might as well be the Orioles.
They can’t see they should of rebuilt, and will try buying free agents to make it work.
Not going to happen.
You are to blind to see it.
You’re just wrong Boog. Fletcher has proven consistent on offense and defense in his short MLB career, but it’s a large enough sample size. Calhoun has been a consistent solid defender that has saved countless runs by taking to the air, like he did yesterday. And his power is better than ever. LaStella, look at the numbers. They are probably one of the most talented group of guys in baseball with a top notch farm system. The Angels have scored 3 more runs than the first place Astros this season. Their problem is they’ve given up too many which tells me they need pitching.
I could keep going down the roster, but you should do your own research. The only weak spots I see aside from pitching are Bour who has options, Cozart who is done, and Upton.
My guess is you don’t watch the Angels and you come on here to stir the pot like you used to do on the Angels site threads.
The Angels have a half dozen players having career years? Huh?
HUH? Exactly who are these six players. Are you including rookies and first full year player.
Tommy LaStella is having his best year and his WAR will end up below 2. Is he one of your six?
Your take is laughable. The Angels starters need to stay heathy, but even that is now impossible because Tyler Skaggs is not getting resurrected and he was a big part of the 2020 plans.
yeah, kid yourself, kiddo!
absolutely! they are finally calling up some of their prospects and the young players are pretty good.
Ham Sandwich time
The lack of Iron Maiden knowledge in here is offensive.
Most of these people are probably too young to get the reference
baseball was invented so that Mike Trout could have a game to play.
he was better in basketball and would have been a hof running back.
Mike Trout once parallel parked a train.
