The Mariners have selected the contract of infielder Ryan Court, per a club announcement. He’ll take the active roster spot of fellow infielder Tim Lopes, who has gone on the 7-day concussion injured list after being struck in the head by a pitch last night. Ryon Healy was shifted to the 60-day IL to free a 40-man spot.
It’s a nice reward for the 31-year-old Court, whose first trip to the plate will be his first at the MLB level. A former 23rd-round draft pick, Court has seen action at Triple-A in parts of four seasons but seemed unlikely ever to touch the majors when he opened the present season in the indy ball ranks.
As it turns out, Court has been a nice find for the M’s top affiliate. In 154 plate appearances, he carries a .279/.377/.581 slash with nine home runs — that’s just two shy of his single-season career high. Court has appeared all over the diamond but has mostly been utilized as a corner infielder in recent seasons.

Good for him. I was rooting for him last year when he was in the Cubs organization.

He hit very well, in the Cubs org, last year.

What did Ian Miller do to never get a chance? We are playing three infielders in the outfield but chose to add another infielder. Why not have Miller in the outfield where he is a plus runner/defender and use any of Beckham/Moore/Negron at second?
Miller must have done something to someone to be buried like he is.

He should have been called up in 2017, he definitely did something, or doesn’t do something that has caused the Dipoto regime to pass him over.

Is this Ian’s burner account?

Nah, but it’s a question most Mariner “Enjoyers” have been asking for a while now. After Mac Williamson it should have been a no-brainer to call Miller up, but it just keeps not happening. It’s a lost season and the kid has been near the top of the AAA depth chart, if not the top, with all of the injuries and failures to the others. It sucks to say it, but at this point they’re just wasting his time.

Probably the Ms have a little hope for Miller possibly doing something at some point.. Once Lopes or Long is healthy, they’ll probably DFA Court and see if he passes through waivers to Tacoma again. They’re possibly afraid that Miller might not make it through waivers.
That’s my guess.

Miller hasn’t hit RHP’s nearly as well as lefties, carries a wRC+ of 91 and is yet another LHH.
I’d like to see him too, but I understand the hesitation. Not to mention the fact that they may have needed to DFA him as players come back from the IL, in which they could have risked losing him.

Good luck Ryan!
