Infielder/outfielder Jace Peterson has been granted his release from the Orioles’ Triple-A affiliate, per an announcement from the team. David Hall of the Virginian Pilot tweets that Peterson had an opt-out provision in his contract that he triggered yesterday.
Peterson, 29, spent the vast majority of the 2018 season in Baltimore but turned in a disappointing .195/.308/.325 through 235 plate appearances while seeing time at second base, shortstop, third base and both corner outfield spots. He re-upped with the O’s on a minor league contract this winter and has enjoyed a productive year thus far in Norfolk, where he’s batted .309/.394/.505 with nine home runs, 24 doubles, five triples and a dozen stolen bases in 86 games.
The versatile Peterson has appeared at all four infield positions and all three outfield positions in the big leagues. Through parts of five big league seasons, he’s tallied 1524 plate appearances through 479 games while hitting .228/.318/.330.

another potential addition for an Atlantic League squad

That would be a step up from the O’s or the Tides.

Formerly a Padres #1 pick that turned out reliably horrible. I sure hope those days are far behind us.
SFGiantsGallore
He’s 29 and in his prime. A contender needs to pick him up ASAP!

They’ll keep Martin in the lineup along with Braxton and their batting in 170 mark and they couldn’t bring him up instead they lose him

Because Jace Peterson is utility man pushing 30 years old. He has zero upside at this point. I don’t really care if he bats .500 at AAA, he’s a low end utility man at best. He got a nice long look and sucked last year. Not losing anything here. I think he would’ve been wise to stay in the organization though. Decent shot Villar is dumped in a few weeks and we’d need a utility man. He probably would’ve been option A.

This guy was once marketed as the shortstop of the future for the Braves. They acquired him and half a season if Alex Gonzalez from Toronto by trading Yunel Escobar. He was always so terrible. They actually started him for a couple years over Andrelton Simmons. No joke. The Braves thought Jace Peterson was going to be a better shortstop than Andrelton Simmons. I’m serious. And yes I mean 20 home run a year PLATINUM Glove Andrelton Simmons.

Jace got traded to the Braves with Max Fried, Mallex Smith, and Dustin Peterson. Andrelton was traded same year to the Angels for Sean Newcomb, Erick Aybar, and Chris Ellis. Jace never started over Andrelton only field in when there was a injury.Andrelton was a established player by this point.

Not the same year one year later.
