Per Andrew Baggarly of The Athletic, the Giants have designated lefty Ty Blach for assignment to make room on the 40-man for prospect Logan Webb’s return from the Restricted List.
Blach, 28, was a reasonably productive swingman for the 2016-18 versions of the club, with numbers slightly inflated (per fWAR and other metrics that rely heavily on park factors) by the enormous dimensions of SF’s Oracle Park. The lefty, who’s posted the league’s lowest strikeout total since his debut in late 2016, threw up a solid 3.84 FIP in 47 appearances (13 starts) for the Giants last season, a performance that ostensibly wasn’t enough to curry favor with the new regime.
He’s spent much of the this season trying to survive in the PCL, where his 5.93 ERA/5.26 FIP are actually respectable totals in the harrowing offensive climate that dots the league’s landscape.

Yeah. There’s absolutely nothing the dodgers should fear about the giants now that Blach is gone
stubby66
omg Brewers go get him and work with him with a cutter
solaris602
Blach won’t be unemployed for long.

Got the Giants to the playoffs in ‘16 with the gem against Kershaw, thank you!
Figure a guy with 300+ innings at MLB and options left next year, a good risk/reward for certain teams to simply add to 40 man. Still could be a starter, one of those situations with a new front office.

That gem against kershaw was such a memorable game. I’ve rooted for him ever since but sadly it didn’t work out.
I thought he’d get more time this season but i guess the giants can’t keep him on the roster now that they are ‘contending’.

A pitch to contact lefty, eh? I know one team that would gladly pull him out of the trash if they can get to him before he gets rained on.

Very solid pitcher. Always gives his all and is a reliable strike thrower. Unfortunately, he’s only really suited to pitch in a pitcher friendly division like the AL Central though.

Glad to see Blach move on. Yes, on occasion he had good outings, but lacked consistency. He’s a guy that has to live on the outer edges of the plate and get ahead in the count. His demise is a result of his inability to do that on a consistent basis.. If I were his next pitching coach I would change Ty to a drop and drive guy. That front stiff leg is not conducive to consistent, pinpoint control which he has to have. Good luck kid.

Just a sidebar, over half of his MLB starts we’re “quality” starts

That dude had me cussing at the tv almost every time he pitched! Lol. Maybe some other team can figure out how to unlock him. Good luck, it was fun watching when he won a few games and was locked in.

Slater is the last one remaining from that group that debut 2-4 years ago that were overpraised by Giants fans and are falling one by one, Slater still has a year of team control so I could see that dragging out a bit longer. I miss the Parker/Mac days where both were said to be the next Mantle and Dimaggio. Who could forget the Derek Law and Osich hype?
Storkman
Literally no one compared Parker or Williamson to Mantle or DiMaggio.

Obviously you were in every social media site with Giants Fans and know everything about anything and nothing escapes you. Thanks for correcting me fellow Giants Fan. Opps, I mean Fellow Classy Giants Fan

He just doesn’t throw hard enough to make any of his pitches effective.
When Blach has command and is getting a generous strike zone from the umpire, he can do well, but that’s obviously not happening too often.
One good start in the 2016 playoffs against the Dodgers will be remembered for a long time by the Giants faithful. Other than that….not so much.

Can Bochy be done with Belt as a leadoff hitter already? Put Yas or Panik as it can’t be any worse?? He looks completely lost, smh
